Some California doctors are accused of handing out and/or selling mask exemptions for back-to-school students.

Quote

"A physician who grants a mask or other exemption without conducting an appropriate prior exam and without a finding of a legitimate medical reason supporting such an exemption within the standard of care may be subjecting their license to disciplinary action ... "

As case numbers can be impersonal, let me ask you this.

How many COVID positive children have you cared for that didn't survive. How many COVID positive children have you cared for on ECMO?  And, how many COVID positive children have you cared for that are now cognitively or neurologically impaired?

If you haven't, try it and then let me know what you think about case number's then.

How many influenza positive children have you cared for under those circumstances?  I hope you were pushing the same draconian policies in 2019 when 480 or so children died of influenza.

I'm not sure if you are referring to the 2018-2019 or 2019-2020 season.  Regardless, your claim of 480 pediatric deaths was somewhat high.  According to the CDC, laboratory confirmed  pediatric flu deaths were 136 and 199, respectively.

There was an influenza pandemic in 2019? Pediatric intensive care nurses have long advocated for routine vaccination.  We were thrilled when the HIB vaccine was developed some 30 odd years ago.

In case you missed it, I left nursing after having the choice of firing or taking the H1N1 shot back in '09. So, no COVID kids for me.

Your smug-point is well noted. I don't know if you've noticed, but I try and step around using pronouns when talking about issues. I do that because I like a good argument, and resorting to personal insults is boring & a rather dead end.

You aren't bothered by sick and hospitalized children with covid? The fact that hospitals across the south are overwhelmed and struggling to provide care to all of the patients doesn't bother you?

Sure. I'm bothered. Kids are some of the toughest creatures on earth.

And they are precious to me. <-Another reason I don't want to see them masked if they don't need to be.

If they need masking or not is a matter of opinion (and perhaps even stats, though it's been awhile since I went down that road). Me and a lot of others think not.

Georgia, by itself records only 12 deaths under age 18.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends masks for children over age 2 years.  I trust their opinion over the opinion of random people on the internet, don't you?

Do you think more children will get sick and die now that schools are open and so many regions don't require masks in schools?

On my advice my daughter in law will be schooling online at home. There is no mask mandate in her state, and she has two baby siblings and her parents. Her father has finally agreed to take the shot, thank goodness. I will worry less then.

Kids are resilient unless they have compromised immune systems or are too young. Yes true. But not true for their baby siblings or parents and grandparents. This is why masking at school is so important! And why my granddaughter will be doing an online academy until the kids are masked at her school.

Disciplinary action if you don’t practice within their guidelines.  Pretty crazy world we live in right now.

Give kids the choice to mask up if they want to.   This is truly a slippery slope and we must tread carefully.

Should we let 6 year olds drive to school?  You REALLY want to leave this choice to little kids?  What's the slippery slope here?  More masking with less disease is somehow communist?  It's only temporary.  Kids have all kinds of cool masks.  It's not a problem for them.  It's only a problem for the adults who value ideology over physical safety.  Would you want to teach in a room filled with unvaccinated kids?  Would you want to drive a school bus?  Well, then there are jobs for you because many other reasonable adult wants to do these jobs either and you can't have in-school classes without bus drivers in most places.

There is no slippery slope IMO.

Schools in Anchorage and Fairbanks are struggling to get bussed kids to school because there is a shortage of qualified adults that will drive school buses.  The very conservative school boards are opposed to mask mandates.  That makes it difficult to recruit responsible adults to drive around in closed up buses in cold weather with scores of unmasked children. It's not like they have paid sick time or health insurance benefits...

99.9%+ survival rate for kids.  Your analogies are absurd.  What’s next?  Making the kids who choose to be overweight run on a treadmill all day?

That was a joke right? Or some kind of sarcasm? Otherwise the comment reflects a profound lack of understanding of this issue at all levels.
