Medical Board Says, "Stop Issuing Bogus Mask Exemptions to Students"

Published

Some California doctors are accused of handing out and/or selling mask exemptions for back-to-school students.

Quote

"A physician who grants a mask or other exemption without conducting an appropriate prior exam and without a finding of a legitimate medical reason supporting such an exemption within the standard of care may be subjecting their license to disciplinary action ... "

Disciplinary action if you don’t practice within their guidelines.  Pretty crazy world we live in right now.

Give kids the choice to mask up if they want to.   This is truly a slippery slope and we must tread carefully.

Personally I don't believe kids should be masked at all.

But I do believe that an MD or whoever is charged in a given duty, has a duty to follow guidelines that are spelled out and they agreed to to be licensed. If on the other hand it's a judgement call, then fine. Go with your best judgment.

Weekly cases of COVID-19 in children jumped by nearly 50% in the United States, posting the highest count since hitting a pandemic high back in mid-January, a new report shows.

The 180,175 new cases reported during Aug. 13-19 represent the highest 1-week total since the peak of 211,466 during the week of Jan. 8-14. The latest weekly figure represents a 48% increase over the previous week and an increase of over 2,000% in the 8 weeks since the national count dropped to a low of 8,500 cases for the week of June 18-24, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association said in their weekly COVID report.

I really hope you're not insinuating a comparison to concentration camp victims. That's disgusting.

Good Link.

Not sure what it would take (truly!). But I do know we haven't even begun to reach any kind of a threshold for me to want to mask children. Case #'s don't bother me.

Absolute insanity.  A medical board that expects doctors to practice within their guidelines.  When did that become a thing?

Absolutely.  Once a medical board requires a physician to actually examine a patient before making a medical decision, our society is heading for another holocaust.

I assume the barcodes on the arms is some kind of analogy to tattoos in concentration camps- did I get that wrong?

You aren't bothered by sick and hospitalized children with covid? The fact that hospitals across the south are overwhelmed and struggling to provide care to all of the patients doesn't bother you?

Give kids the choice to wear a mask or not.  Their body their choice.  It’s a compromise that should appease everyone in the end

Not the first person to come up with that comparison.

Because elementary aged children have the best critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills?  Or maybe because they are good at risk benefit assessment?

As case numbers can be impersonal, let me ask you this.

How many COVID positive children have you cared for that didn't survive. How many COVID positive children have you cared for on ECMO?  And, how many COVID positive children have you cared for that are now cognitively or neurologically impaired?

If you haven't, try it and then let me know what you think about case number's then.

The expectation that one would perform due diligence (appropriate history-taking, etc), examine the patient and in general have a bona fide interaction and professional relationship is not a new thing, at all.

It is one of the most basic tenets of the appropriate practice of medicine.
