Hi guys!
I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.
I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.
So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe
To everyone new who's gotten in and gotten their acceptance letters: CONGRATS! I'm so happy for you guys especially Faith! You deserve it and I'm so excited for you ! I'm super anxious to meet everyone going to Medical Campus :)
Has anyone heard from Baptist by the way? Hope we hear something soon!
Honestly don't loose hope just yet because i know of someone who got their acceptance letter about 2 weeks ago to Homestead and I hadn't got a response. What I believe is happening is that since the person I knows last name starts with an A she got her response before I did since my name starts with an R. Best of luck!!! I'm sure we are all pulling for you.

Thank you so much!! It means a lot to me. After the mess I went through in fall with Mdc it's so nice to finally be on my way! I can't wait to meet you all!! :)
Hey on eagles wings,Are you using 7th ed of the Fundies book? I see there is an 8th ed coming, but there is no release date yet, so I'm not sure if the school would be using this new 8th ed. whenever it's actually available?
I'm assuming that you're already in the program @ MDC. Can you give some organization tips? i.e. favorite gadgets/apps to use, etc. Do the profs allow you to record lectures?
we are using 7th edition. i would wait if you can and see what is on your official booklist. i forgot but yea they mentioned the upcoming students would be using a new edition.
i loooove the medscape app. helps me a lot with careplans while i am at work because it gets right to the point and tells me what i need to know about my pt's disease. now that i say that i do want to add that you will be using your medsurg books this semester. yep, we use 'em for clinical.
um.. as for organization... i use dropbox to have all my notes in one place. i also share them with my friends. it is an online media storage thing. you'll never use a USB again, lol. i cannot tell you how many people lose their USB's at the library. oh and in case you didn't read my old thread, i work at the medical campus library. if you ever see me working, say hello and i may be able to help you out with something :)
professors do allow you to record and i suggest. there is a nice app i use called DropVox. it records and uploads it automatically to my dropbox account. :) awesomeness.
if your skills or health assessment prof lets you, video record during the lab section. it will help you a lot :)
btw guys its not about studying 5 hours a day. honestly there are days i don't study... and i am getting good grades... its about HOW YOU STUDY. don't just read the book and highlight and do little practice questions... write good notes AS YOU READ and study those notes. i'll post an example here...
your fundamentals book separated chapter in mainly 1-3 parts.
1. scientific knowledge base
2. nursing knowledge base
3. nursing process
People that struggle in my class will sometimes only study 2 out of the 3 parts. you need to know all three to really be able to apply the info. so here is how i separate my notes: 1. scientific & nursing knowledge and 2. nursing process
hope it helps =)
On Eagles Wings,
Thank you for the inside info on study habits. I have heard so many different ways to study especially for the first semester with Nursing Fundamentals. It's always good to hear from a fellow student.
I already downloaded the attachments and will start reading them tomorrow.
Btw, do you know of any study aids books that will help for the NCLEX and the entire four semesters for Generic Full-time?
no problem! that chapter should be on your second test so don't worry much on it now for the first few weeks you want to focus on the nursing process(A.D.P.I.E!!!), mobility/immobility, skin integrity, client safety, and infection control. this will be the basis of your first test and the rest of our careers, lol. :)
the ATI books you will be getting will help with your classes. They are in bullet points and kinda review your chapters.
But I used Reviews & Rationales and I think it will be more useful for Med Surg. Personally, I like Saunder's NCLEX books a lot. I think they have enough fundamdentals stuff in it that you could use it for first semester. The latest one is the yellow one. Get it on amazon.
Fundamentals Success is pretty good; it will help for your ATI Fundamentals Exam...
Get a good Nursing Careplan book... I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nursing-Care-Plans-Diagnoses-Interventions/dp/0323065376/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320810606&sr=8-1
You want to get familiar with it... you'll use it a lot come clinicals :)
