MDC Spring 2012 :)

Published

Hi guys!

I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.

I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.

So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe

:nurse:

does anyone know anything about the metro rail and how far it leaves u from medical campus?

It leaves you far enough to get some good exercise in the morning...it's probably a 10 or 15 minute walk depending on how fast you move. Also Jackson Memorial is between the Med Campus and the Metro, so it's possible you can take a shorter route by walking straight through the hospital.

P_Funk,

Did you pay out of pocket for the books, lab coat, and the other materials? Or did you use Financial aid money?

Jael,

I brought the lab coat and other stuff with my own money. I'm thinking I'm going to wait to see how much I get for my book advance from financial aid to buy another other materials and maybe a couple of books from the bookstore. From my understanding, the book advance won't be available until maybe a little bit before school actually starts.

:yeah: I just accepted my seat today!! :yeah: and started working on my checklist. unfortunately, the face-to-face option was full , so i will be doing it online...

:throcomp: IF ANY1 IS INTERESTED IN SWAPPING, PLEEEEEEEASE LET ME KNOW!

I's a lil nervous about doing the transition online, i really was hoping for the face to face

Hello everyone,

Im sure you all are getting geared up and trying to get all your stuff ready for orientation. I just had a quick question. How do we know what uniforms we need? color of shoes? name tags? lab coat? I see everyone has started purchasing stuff but Im trying to figure out how they know what to get.

Im wondering that myself....im assuming there was a first batch of acceptance emails that were sent out? all i know is that i have a few orientations coming up, and thought maybe thats when all the information and detail would be discussed (??)

Specializes in None as of yet..

I thought you somehow had financial aid money covered you already. I say this because I'm dying to start studying the books I'm gonna need, start buying the other materials for clinicals. LIKE UGH!! I'm I alone on how I feel about this!!? :jester:   I have been waiting since last semester to start.

I doubt the list is full for on-campus program. Which others did you apply for? Or are you speaking strictly on the Transition program?

Jael,

You're not alone... I've been waiting to start since I first applied last semester and now that I've been accepted, I'm soooo ready to start reading a chapter or two or three!!!!! lol

From my experience with dade and their financial aid disbursements, you better hope they don't ask for additional information or something that may delay them giving you your money. Plus they tend to give out disbursements in waves for some reason. I swear I've been trying to figure out the pattern for the last 2 years !!!

Madarmes && MsJeN,

A lot of us know what uniforms and etc to get because we've either seen it on past mdc nursing forums and/or has had someone who is currently in or may have just completed the program to telll us. On the contrary to having these resources, you could always just ask one of the workers at the bookstore. I mean the workers at the medical campus was very helpful.... they know more than just how to charge you for books and t-shirts lol.

But i suppose you could just wait until orientation to get your supplies but I personally don't like to wait for the last minute. And a little advice, don't wait to order your name tags!!! I heard it could take anywhere from 1-3 weeks to get after it's been ordered...

Congrats on your acceptances. :w00t:

I know the link I'm about to post is from the mdc fall 2011 generic part-time forum, but it has information on uniforms and some books that may be helpful to some or (hopefully) all if not majority of you guys thats on this particular forum....

https://allnurses.com/fl-nursing-programs/mdc-fall-2011-a-580887-page15.html

Pages 13 && 14 may be somewhat beneficial as well...

HOPE THIS HELPS GUYS!!!! ...I'll try to post more links from other mdc forums that I've skim through already.

Does anyone know if the books for the nursing program are available as eBooks? I know from just my first semester of prerequisits that you can save as much as $100 a book over buying and if you have 5 books in one semester, that's a savings of $500. I still have some time to go before I even take the TEAS, but I'd love to know this.

hi guys,

please take a look at this as it is posted in the website for requiments

provide supporting documentation for the following:

a. measles(rubeola), mumps and rubella(german measles) blood titer lab results

b. 5 panel drug screening results in a sealed envelope from the lab.

c. two current (within the past 6 months) consecutive tb skin tests (at least 3 days apart).

*all necessary guidelines regarding the completion of the student health record can be found on the front page of the student health record

i wanted to ask if anyone had noticed this, because i didn't and i already did my drug screening at my primary and not at the lab so i dont have my results in a sealed envelope from the lab but, i guess i could ask my doctor to put them in one of their envelopes.

what do you guys think?
