Hi guys!
I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.
I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.
So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe
First semester you don't pick your classes. Clinicals are chosen for you based on zip. They are not always accurate with placements so you are able to switch with someone else within your same sequence or block, at zepphead said.
this will all make sense during your orientation.. don't even worry about that now. trust me, you have a lot more to be concerned about, LOL.
start reading guys, i meaaaaaan it : )
I have been in touch with a PT MDC student who started in Fall 2011 and a friend of mine who just graduated from BCC. Recommendations from both:
Nursing Fundamentals Reviews and Rationales by Mary Ann Hogan
Fundamentals Success by Nugent & Vitale
And if you already have your Fundies book, start reading it too! I'm waiting for orientation before I buy my Fundies book (want to be sure of the edition they'll be using for Spring).
Hope this helps!
rnati,i have a similar issue with the titers.
apparently i did not get the measles vaccine therefore i have no immunity towards the measles. i called the nursing dept. with regards to how i proceed in this case and they advised i get the vaccine asap and advise them of the issue the day of orientation.
after vaccination i need to get the titer done again because proof of vaccination is not acceptable but i can only get the titers done 30 days after being vaccinated and i have to turn in the titters result to nursing dept before the holiday break.
this is was what i was told by the person who answered the phone in the nursing dept but please call yourself and ask just in case they advise differently.
let me know what they tell you.
hey guys,
i had the same issue with my rubella coming back non-immune!! i was able to get a hold of the lady in charge of the student health forms (ms. walker) and she told me to just take the booster and bring the proof that i did. she didn't mention anything about getting the titer done again, but i'm assuming they'd want to see the titer repeated at some point before school starts.
I don't know if y'all know about Nurse Nicole- I ran across her a few months back on YouTube. She has been keeping a video blog from her beginning days as a student all the way till graduation and now beyond. Here is one she made about being accepted into a program- http://m.youtube.com/?client=mv-google&rdm=4oholj6gf&tsp=1#I think she is great and hope she can help you guys in the future.

Hey Joshsc,
The link is not working for me. I searched for Nurse Nicole on YouTube, but got nothing about the video blog. What key words you suggest I search for on YouTube?
if you can, wait to see what the fundies book edition might be. it might be the same one we have. but honestly, shouldnt make much of a difference. if you have the book already, read on "infection control". looong chapter you really gotta know well.
if you are ever on campus, i suggest you take your USB with you and go to the success center or library and start getting the professor's powerpoints. they are on what we call a G drive on the computers on campus. there you will find all the ppts. start looking through that.
honestly, the reviews and rationales is good, i use it, but the accelerated students need it more than us full timers. we actually have time to read, the AO don't. the best thing you can do, and this is what i do, is really know your chapter well, especially the blue boxes, and do nclex q's. thats where fundamentals success is so useful.
Hey Guys,
I been doing a lot of researching on which study aids and books would be helpful to excel in the NCLEX and throughout the program. A lot of students, including one of my friends who finished the accelerated at Medical recommended "Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination".
http://www.amazon.com/Saunders-Comprehensive-NCLEX-RN%C2%AE-Examination-Nclex-Rn/dp/1437708250
They said this book made the program and the NCLEX so much easier to understand. This book also had a lot of sample questions that were similar or exactly the same as the NCLEX exam.
Other books to consider that a lot of students online, and allnurses.com bloggers stated were great are.
PDA for Nursing by LaCharity

Kaplan NCLEX-RN w/ CD
http://www.amazon.com/Kaplan-NCLEX-RN-2011-2012-CD-ROM-Strategies/dp/1607148773
I was in Barnes and Nobles today and reviewed the books myself with the exception of Saunders (Since it was a sealed book). They seem very helpful; and in the next coming weeks after reading more and more, I'm buying the books if it's clear to me that they would help.
Anyone has heard of any other information of list of books that would help? Please share any insight that might help us.
Thanks! :)
