Hi guys!
I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.
I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.
So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe
Faith1218 thank you for the infor, I'm going to check out that other Forum. I figured we have to take specific classes but wasn't sure how it worked with schedules.
What is the schedule for the full time program? I know it's during the day but would there be specific hours? I'm going to be woking part time in the evenings so depending on school hours it will determine my work hours.
yisy4u,I finally completed the backgound check online (lol) and have an appointment for tomorrow morning. Couldn't go today because I went to the doctor to do the 5-panel drug test and I have to be to work sometime soon.. Yay, I'm almost finished with everything. Should have everything for orientaton no later than the end of next week!!!
Anywho, how much did you have to pay for the lab coat, name tag, and uniform??
SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!! lol
P_Funk: I don't seem to find the receipt but the jacket was $49.99. The pants were $16.99 and I think the lab coat was $36...I'm not sure about the lab coat price! The name tag was like $ 8.00
Where are you guys doing your vaccines and stuffs? There is a place where you get everything done for $170.00.

^So I'm moving the link higher in the forum for everyone to see what they need.
I signed up for the 11/5 CPR course at med campus, and paid as well. :)
Do we have to go through the MDC Background check? or can we get it elsewhere? anybody know!?
Vaccines, can we do them all in one day? I don't want to get sick here. hehehe
For those still waiting on callback, most likely Monday or Tuesday of next week you will get a response. Good luck!!!
jael11 , i have my bls on 11/5 too! i will see you there.
and yes, we have to do the background check that mdc provides. ive done all my labwork in one day. my doc just did all the titers, no vaccines, and xray for the tb. you dont need to have two consecutive tb tests done if you came from a country like russia or china, it is enough to tell them that you had a bcg vaccine, and they can just do an xray.
but if you need to get immunized, you need to come back.
RNTAI!!!!Woooo! Biology and anatomy teacher! I bet you are gonna rock in the accelerated. I'm looking up classes and rough drafting my schedule. You know, it isn't that bad. Some classes (like fundies skill lab) only run for a short period and then others start. I looked up some professors too. Most of them are TBA on the schedule, so it is kind of a blind game.
I also took a peek at a seq 1 and 2 of generic. Those people have one class a day and should be pretty relaxed.
I'm still debating on which track to pick. All this is due to the south florida workforce scholrship. If on Monday I find out that they pay for the accelerated - i'm in!
Kudos to all my accelerated peeps!!!!!
Blissberry!! I'm still debating on which route to go!! Accelerated or Generic!! The baptist scholarship would be great..but I don't want to risk not being awarded it and then having another year of schooling before I can begin working. Do you have any advice for me?? Another question..how do you qualify for the South Florida Workforce scholarship that you were awarded?? I'm going to accept my seat on Thursday and hope to make the best decision possible!!! Does anyone know if the scholarship is only offered to Full Time Generic students?? I already e-mailed Ms. Diamond but haven't got a response yet. Thanks everyone!!
:yeah:
The South Florida workforce scholarship is awarded as a retraining credit. You have to attend an orientation at one of their offices, register and sit with a councelor. I called three offices. One of them told me that Accelerated option is not covered, another said it is, the third one wasn't sure and told me to come to the orientation. I'm going to the Little Havana office tomorrow at 9 am for that orientation. MDC is not going to tell you anything about that scholarship by the way.
I personally am done banging my head on the wall over the decision between the two programs. RN is my first step, I am going to get my MSN or PhD later, so I need to make sure I get good grades in RN. Accelerated option is designed to get you over it fast, but is not nessesarily friendly for your GPA. Generic is only one semester longer, so that is only four extra months. So far i'm leaning towards the generic. If that means less stress and better grades, i'm in! You can also pick up a couple of part time shifts at a hospital and work, which you can't do in the accelerated.
Blissberry I think you are making the right decision. It's just 1 semester more and it will for sure pass by real quick! I think it will be a lot easier than the accelerated.
Also, i wanted to ask you where could i get information on the south Florida workforce scholarship. I went to their web page but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the info and advice!!! Do you have to register for that orientation in Little Havana?? Would I be able to attend with you?? If so, can you give me any details? I could use all the financial aid possible!!! :):) Thanks again!!! Btw, I'd be happy to exchange phone numbers and e-mail if you'd like!!!
Blissberry, see you in the CPR Course!!
For the baptist scholarship I went straight to the source, Dawn Diamond, at medical, and spoke to her. She told me that all the info is on the official email acceptance letter they sent out, and they guarantee a two job at Baptist after graduation and pass the NCLEX. They pay for full Tuition, and classes only. Not books, or other material you need. The initial panel interview is the basically your interview for the job, but I heard from other students that you have to apply at baptist, and you go through another interview when that time comes. If you get Financial aid, and the baptist scholarship, the scholarship pays for everything it's supposed to pay first, then financial aid pays for the rest, any money left over is yours to keep!! :w00t: All documentation must be turned in by this friday, the 28th, to Dawn Diamond Directly. You don't need to mail it out, and or go to Baptist to turn it in all the way over there.
What else? I asked her so many questions. Hahaha.
Btw, I got my appointment for my vaccines, and physical, and TB test with my Physician this Friday.
IT's STARTING TO SINK IN, that I made it in the program.:thankya::clpty::stdnrsrck:
