Hi guys!
I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.
I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.
So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe
Yeah, I'm going first thing tomorrow to accept my seat for Generic FT seat!! :) After that I got to start getting all my paperwork for the baptist scholarship, background check, and will be getting all my other work done with my family Physician.
I need to sign up for the CPR course. Where do I start that? and is it free for students who receive Full Financial aid?
Who's going for Full-time Generic again?
Hey Jael, for the CPR class go here: https://sisvsr.mdc.edu/ce/showsched.aspx?catID=B1A&chkNO=on
They have classes available. I don't know if it's free for you but I had to pay $75. I guess you'd have to ask MDC.

Ohhh Perfect, i'll check out the class schedule. Thank you!
WELCOME to the thread AnaB333!! There are only a few accelerated ppl on here so we're excited to see you!Blissberry, I don't mean to burst your bubble, but i really do not think the accelerated students are eligible for that scholarship. I do not know for sure of course, but that is what I have heard. I'm so sad if you're not going to take the accelerated route! But by all means, I completely understand why!
I spoke to an a/o grad today. Met him at a cath lab when volunteering. He got his program paid thru south florida workforce. Unless they have changed their guidelines, I should be fine.
I ordered my steth, made a doc appointment, scheduled a CPR and fingerprinting. So I should be all ready to go by the orientation date. Maybe i'm jumping ahead of the train, but my Fundamentals and Med/Surg nursing books are on the way too. Just for fun reading.
Some little nerd in me wants to do the accelerated. Here is what that a/o grad told me. He never really opened his books. Studied with notes and recordings of lectures. Got all A's, B's and some C's. There were also some people who had A's in the undergrad and now were happy to get B's and C's. There is just so much conflicting info. Some optimistic, some not really.

Sorry that it took so long for me to answer your questions.
They do ask you if you are a citizen, but you don't have to present any prove :)
So don't worry about it.
I did the background check last Thursday, and there was a lot of dates available. I don't know how it is now that everyone is trying to get their appointments as well. But I don't think that will be a problem, you can do it the day of orientation.
Jael11 I have financial aid and I had to pay myself for my CPR class.
Coren: i think that we should wait until we know what sequence we are in to start making study groups! i guess that if we have different professors and different schedules we may not be on the same page. But I love the idea of making study groups with you guys! We also have to agree on where to see each other the day of orientation!
First I'd like to say...
:ancong!: TO THOSE ACCEPTED!!!!
I was lurking around this thread earlier this year trying to find out some information on mdc and stopped checking since I started a full time/over time job and I'm here to say...
I GOT IN!! :hpygrp:
I'll be doing the transitional program but I'm not sure yet whether I should choose face-to-face or online, especially since I just started working as an LPN at an elementary school and i absolutely LOVE it
I wish there was a way we could speak to alumni, or maybe have mdc setup an orientation for both options and then have us choose AFTER...
If anyone else got accepted into the transitional and would like to figure this out together let me know!! We only have till friday to decide!! :uhoh21:
Hello everyone! Hope you all are gearing up to get all your things done before school starts! I went this morning to the medical campus to accept my seat in the FT generic program (homestead). Just wanted to let you guys know that before you go to pay your deposit at the bursars office, go to the new student center and get a blue paper that you will need to turn in to the bursar. So they dont have you running back and forth. This time of year there are a lot of ppl in the new student office but thatnfully you dont have to talk one on one to an advisor, someone comes out to get all the acceptance letters from the crowd. The whole process took me less than an hour! I also completed my background check at the office in coral gables which took less than 10 minutes. Super easy! Just gotts get the health screening done which can be accomplished at your family doctor! Just wanted to put out any information I can. Anyone else going FT at homestead let me know! It would be great to know somebody seeing as how I have never been to that campus, and it never hurts to have a study buddy! Wish you all the best! We are almost there!
Dolfinz, talk to me! What made you pick one over another? I'm in the same boat, and have to make a decision in a couple of days. I need some feedback.
It basically came down to one thing. The faster I get done, the faster I can get to working! I personally like the fast pace of the accelerated program because you learn things and then get tested on them while it's still fresh in your mind. I don't care about the Baptist scholar program personally because I don't need someone to pay for school but for some people that is definitely an advantage.

I'm going on Tuesday to accept my seat
! I have to get one more recommendation for the Baptist Scholarship and tomorrow I'm getting my fingerprints done and then straight off to work. My Dr appt is probably gonna be for Wednesday and I'm taking my CPR course Saturday. Sooooo many things to do before orientation!.
Also, I was looking at the classes and it seems like we're pretty much gonna have a class per day which is crazy because the rest of the time means it's time to study!
Let's start making study groups! They're gonna be super important! Time to live in the library!
