Mayo Clinic Nurse Residency (Az) February 2022

Published

Hey, everyone. I know it's pretty early, but I have had my eye on the Mayo Clinic Nurse Residency program in Arizona for a while. I will be graduating in December and plan on applying to their February 2022 cohort. I have seen other threads from previous cohorts that keep up with the process, information, and support each other along the way.

If you are interested in applying to this program, this thread is for you!

About me: I am from out of state, which is why I am pretty anxious to hear more information on the program. I would love to do critical care. I have not seen the residency program posted on the job board yet, so hopefully, we can keep each other updated.

Good luck to all of you!

The “application forwarded to hiring manager” part took the longest for me. You’ll get an email from HR to schedule an HR interview next, and then you’ll interview with the unit manager! Also the wait after interviewing with the unit manager can be long as well. A lot of times the unit manager will send in your offer as soon as the interview is over if they like you, but it’ll still take like 3 weeks to hear something because Mayo’s HR is notoriously slow!

Thanks for all of the information! That’s really good to know. I’m nervous because when I uploaded my resume and transcripts I added a cover letter last minute before the application closed but it looks like my cover letter never uploaded properly so I hope my resume and transcripts are enough to be chosen for an interview by the hiring manager!

Do you have any tips for us regarding the interview process?

Thank you ?

It should be OK! You can always email them your cover letter. If you go to mayo’s nurse residency page I THINK Arizona’s program has an email address. It might be Florida. I can’t remember exactly. But you could always reach out by phone or email to HR to make sure it’s there. As far as interviews: the HR interview is easy, super basic. BUT this interview does determine whether you’ll get a unit interview. It’s basic qualification questions such as grad date, what degree you’re graduating with, etc. they’ll ask you a few questions like “why Mayo?” “What made you want to become a nurse” etc. easy icebreaker questions like those! The unit interview is a whole other beast though. I interviewed and was offered a position in an ICU at Rochester. Not sure how similar Arizona will be in respect to unit interviews, but do expect prioritization questions! Expect to explain your strengths/weaknesses and how you use them in clinical practice. Prepare to prioritize a list of patients based on vitals/symptoms/condition on who you would see first. Expect to talk about sensitive things like mistakes you’ve made or seen others make and how you rectified them. Something I did was go on Youtube and looked up nursing interview situation and prioritization questions and answered them out loud! It helped a TON! Feel free to message me directly or on the thread if you have any questions at all, I’m glad to help!
