What is your take on the issue of legalizing marijuana?
I used to, many years ago. I enjoyed it, it relaxed me and helped me with the migraine headaches I used to get so frequently. In fact, I'd probably still be doing it if I didn't have a) a nasty case of asthma, b) teenagers still at home, and c) a nursing license I'd like to keep. I have no moral problem with marijuana, but it IS illegal and it's not worth risking my career over. 'Nuff said. :stone
You tell it nicely mj
I also found out it didnt help my golf game either, and golf is far more important to me.
But I say legalise it, tax it, own it
Sad how my brilliant brother-in-law can't remember conversations he had 30 minutes ago. Ravages of regular pot use for 30 years.
Next, in spite of that, I am for legalization. It's part of the whole libertarian thing. So I'm not really sure I'm for taxation, still thinking about that one. . .
And for the previous poster who asked; I'm a non-user. Closest I've ever been to the stuff is when above mentioned brother-in-law lit up one night around me. I believe people should use it as responsibly as they SHOULD use alcohol. I'm not foolish enough to believe people will be responsible though.
I'm curious. For those who say, legalize it for everyone, do you use it yourself? If you voted NO, or for medicinal use, and you do not use it, say YES.
If you voted legalize it, and you use it, say YES.
If you voted yes, or for medicinal use and you do use, say NO.
If you voted to legalize it and you do not use it, say NO.
Just wondering if you own habits are effecting our decisions.
To that, I will just answer.....YES
Although I don't use it now, I've smoked it occasionally in the past. In the part of the country where I live, MJ use is very common and it's rare that someone gets arrested for using or possessing it. There are far more serious illegal substances to spend our tax dollars eliminating. It's legal to possess it in my state for medicinal purposes.
Since so many people smoke it anyway, why not tax it and regulate it?
I think Marihuana should be legal, but...
* If you are 20 years old or more.
* If you have a good intelligence quotient.
* If you coudn't go to your work high.
* Cocaine, Heroin, and all the chemical drugs... Illegal.
I believe that you need to be carefull if you want to use it, but I also belive that could exist a moderate use!
Thank you!
Oh and just in case you were wondering I would not use the stuff on the job just as I do not use my perscription narcs on the job. Both would be wrong in my opinion. BTW does anyone know where I need to look online to find out what the law is concerning use of perscription narcs by licensed nurses?
Look on your BON site concerning the use of drugs. If it is listed on your employee application you SHOULD be ok. You must have a current DR RX. Do not use anything that would impair your mental capacity. I worked with a nurse that had cancer and she walked around with a fental sucker all the time. She was still sharper than anyone on the floor. It controlled her pain, did not have adverse side effects, it allowed her to continue to work, as long as she could.
When she felt she could not function properly she stayed at home. Use wisdom and caution, and of course CHECK with the State Board regs, as well as your facility regs.
I admit it was a sarcastic remark, but give me a break...I think you're taking it a little far with murder, graft (I think you meant graffiti) and the Mafia.
Why not legalize it, tax it and regulate it?
Because whether it's legal or not "We'd still have drug addicts and children being raised by drug addicts and people driving cars under the influence of drugs causing crashes and deaths and..."
Hey, we could also legalize murder and graft and the Mafia . . then all those people wouldn't be criminals and our prisons would be empty and . ..(of course people would still be dead and people would still be ripped off and . . . . .)
Changing the definition of something does not change the outcome. Maybe in a fairy tale but not in real life.
We'd still have drug addicts and children being raised by drug addicts and people driving cars under the influence of drugs causing crashes and deaths and . . . oh dear, I wasn't going to get into this was I? :)

Steph- I had a husband just like you are describing, he was horrible every time he smoked, he would wet his pants get up and stumble around and pee in the corner thinking it was the bathroom, spend money that we needed to FEED our baby on pot and beer, beat the crap out of me ect ect ect ad nauseum. I used to feel the exact same way you feel.
I have never used MJ, I only drink minimal amounts (like 2-3 drinks) 3-4 times a year. I have since my divorce from the "bum" met and been around MANY people who can responsibly use MJ. I know people who are great parents, who own their own home, who hold steady jobs and who use Mj on a daily basis. I think it is more the traits of the people who are using these drugs than the drugs themselves.
I have older teenage nephews who do not smoke pot and who spend al their time playing video games, which I think is a ridiculus way to pass the time but it is part of this generations "culture" so to speak.
If we legalize it we can tax it, our prisons would have less of a problem with overcrowding, and I believe our economy would not suffer. People who are going to use it are going to use it regardless of the legalities and just think of all the tax dollars we are losing. JMHO

I have not smoked it in over 25 years. it is illegal and Iwould be risking losing my nursing license. Something I'm not willing to do. However, what has influenced my vote is the fact that I have knowledge of MJ from past personal use, and current nursing experience with MJ effects and disease processes. I suppose if someone has an addictive type personality, they would not be able to act responsibly with anything.
You may or may not think this is very funny, but, If it was legalized, suddenly there would be lots of small business owners.
