Do LPN's get the pay they deserve?
I live in Arizona and it's one of the lowest paying states and a CNA makes about $8.50-12.00/hr here, so yes I think you're getting paid very low. I have a friend who works for Kindred hosptial which is mainly where they are weaning pt's off of ventilators and such and she only has about 1 yr of experience and she's making $24/hr as an LPN.

Bush Administration Proposes Cut in Veteran Benefits
ok, I couldn't hold back when I saw this comment... Are you kidding? He's taken us to war for no reason and over 1,500 of our soldiers have died because of it!! That is more than enough reason to be ashamed - HELLO!!! I too was blinded by Bush and the Bush Administration until I started to educate myself. You can start by watching Fahrenheit 911. Also, here's a link that will highlight all the news Bush and the Republicans tried to slip past while media obsessed on the Schiavo case. http://www.progressivedailybeacon.com/commentary.php?id=458 Our President is a LIAR and has many reasons to be ashamed! ok, so Clinton wasn't a good husband, but our dollar was strong and our economy was great. Since Bush has been in office, our economic state has been the worst in the Presidential history - big red flashing lights coming at you...

Bush Administration Proposes Cut in Veteran Benefits
Yes, you said it, so many people were blinded by Bush including myself! I've really started to educate myself on what's really going on in the world specifically the war in Iraq. I have come to find out that Bush has taken us to a war for no reason - he said that the justification was that terriorists' in Iraq had WMD's and now recently the White House has informed us that their search for WMD's is over and we found NOTHING!! Well, according to what I have gathered, Bush used 9/11 for an excuse to go to Iraq, mainly to get their oil. Actually, there are and never were terriorists' in Iraq, they are in Saudi Arabia and Bush knows it, but the Saudi's have made Bush and the Bush family so much money from oil and whatever else that he wouldn't dare turn his back on them, he would instead have our soldiers go to a war and die for reasons that only applied to him - this is hard to believe, but it is true. The media doesn't show us so much, but there are other ways of finding out what's really happening and the saddest part is that a good % of us don't have a clue. And he says that we're at war to give the Iraqis their freedom...blah blah blah...yeah let's worry about our own freakin country when we have enough problems of our own and these other countries who we help in time of need wouldn't care if we were wiped off the planet. We are in the worst economy of any US President! He is one big lie after another. oh well, at least he can't escape his own Karma and if I were him I would be teriffied...

Would you tell the family?
I'm very sorry for your familys' loss. I honestly don't think that the doctor would say that it wasn't a match just to spare the mothers' feelings. Also, I don't think that telling the mother about her drug use will do anything except make things worse. Some things are better left untold...and what you don't know won't hurt you.

I HATE nursing! (long)
How about a Nursing Instructor at a college or even in a hospital setting? They say there is a shortage of nurses and that there are plenty of people that want to go into nursing, but not enough Nursing Instructors.

LVN/RN dilemma
I think in your situation that it would be a good idea for you to go to school for the LVN and then transition to RN when your hubby gets back. I have a friend who has been an LVN for about 1 year and is making $24/hr..I wouldn't consider that 'crap' money, not too shabby if you ask me

RN's who work in the NICU
sparkyRN Thank you for all the detail you provided. It was very helpful in understanding what it's like in the NICU. I like how you refer to them as 'your babies' :) I can tell you're a wonderful nurse! Thanks again!

I quit my job (long)
Not only are you entitled your PTO, but since you gave your 2-week notice and she decided to let you go on the spot, you are also entitled to the 2-weeks notice pay!! This is a law and I just recently quit my job with a 2-week notice and they let me go on the spot with my 2-weeks notice pay without having to work the 2-weeks. Not everyone knows this, but it is a law. Get your money!! I also agree with the other poster about about getting something in writing about you giving your notice and not being fired. Best of luck to you!

I quit my job (long)
I just thought I would mention something that I recently learned about giving your 2-week notice. If you give your employer your 2-week notice and they decide to let you go on the spot, by law, you are entitled to the 2-week notice pay PLUS any un-used sick or vacation time. I know the money is nothing compared to what you are/have gone through at this place, but since it just recently happened to me, I thought you might find it interesting.

RN's who work in the NICU
This is the speciality I want to go into and I wanted to ask you what your typical daily routine is in the NICU? I love babies so much and they are so innocent and beautiful precious little angels! Something I keep thinking about is what my emotional state will be because I love babies so much and I know it has to be hard to work on that floor. I would love to hear your feedback on anything related to working in the NICU. Thanks in advance!

Getting Canned at Exit Interview
I just recently found out that if you put in your 2-week notice and your employer tells you to just leave, then by law they have to pay you for your 2-week notice. Interesting, huh?

My name is Chim-Chim Apple Hiney
Fun for a giggle...This only takes a minute. Sometimes when you have a stressful day or week, you need some silliness to break up the day. And, if we are honest, we have a lot more stressful days than not. Here is your dose of humour...Follow the instructions to find your new name. The following in an excerpt from a children's book, "Captain Underpants And the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants" by Dave Pilkey. The evil Professor forces everyone to assume new names. Use the third letter of your first name to determine your new first name: > a = poopsie b = lumpy c = buttercup d = gadget > e = crusty f = greasy > g = fluffy h = cheeseball i = chim-chim j = stinky > k = flunky l = boobie > m = pinky n = zippy o = goober p = doofus > q = slimy r = loopy > s = snotty t = tootie u = dorkey v = squeezit > w = oprah x = skipper > y = dinky z = zsa-zsa Use the second letter of your last name to determine the first half of your new last name: > a = apple b = toilet c = giggle d = burger > e = girdle f = barf > g = lizard h = waffle i = cyote j = monkey k > = potty l = liver > m = banana n = rhino o = bubble p = hamster q = > toad r = gizzard > s = pizza t = gerbil u = chicken v = pickle > w = chuckle x = tofu > y = gorilla z = stinker Use the fourth letter of your last name to determine the second half of > your new last name: a = head b = mouth c = face d = nose e = > tush f = breath > g = pants h = shorts i = lips j = honker > k = butt l = brain > m = tushie n = chunks o = hiney p = biscuits q = > toes r = buns > s = fanny t = sniffer u = sprinkles v = kisser > w = squirt x = humperdinck > y = brains z = juice > > Thus, for example, John Howards new name is Cheeseball Bubblehead. > > Now when you SEND THIS ON...use your new name as the subject.

is this Fate
I believe in Fate. I grew up not knowing what I wanted to be except I knew I wanted to be a mom and have children since I was about 10 yrs old. My mother wanted me to go into the military and become a pilot. I can't even stand to be on a plane without being a nervous wreck let alone fly one...was she kidding?!! When I was about 17, I all of the sudden knew that I wanted to go into the medical field, it was difentely a 'calling', no other explanation. I've always been a giver and the feeling of helping people is very rewarding to me.

PROS and CONS LVN vocational school
The school I'm going to is only $10,000 and and is 11 months. There is a 2+ year waiting list to get into the RN program, so I figured I'd take the LPN/LVN route and then transition into the RN program for the last 2 semesters.

Record for most babies
My dad is 1 of 10 children. I think there are over 30 grandchildren!
