I am curious to know if anyone can give me some information on nice places to live outside Miami. Preferably some place with a low crime rate and a nice palce to live. Thanks to all who answer. Matt

We use 24G or 22G on most of our kids. Our IV of choice is the Insyte Safety IV. We actually had to fight our immediate bosses and go to the DON of the hospital to get these. They were changing our needles to the Introcan (Introcrap) needles. The Insyte's are highly polished and we find that they do a great job. We also use what we call a "house." Website www.ivhouse.com . These are great and allow our kids to be kids without some of the worry about them tearing it out when they sleep or get more active. We always tape the hell out of them.

education is definitely the key. i have been accepted into a bsn program. i look forward to furthering my education and becoming a more rounded nurse. i have been an lpn for three years and worked in the same unit for that time. i live in sw missouri. that in and of itself could be the problem. we have two fair sized hospitals that act like highschool rivals. i guess what really got me going is that rn's in our hospital got a $0.44 pay raise...again. i know and understand how valuable rn's our to hospitals, but what does this say to other employees? i deserve more than the standard 3% annual raise. i have already been looking at hospitals in florida for when i graduate. i love my job in pediatrics and don't ever see myself leaving. one of the nurse recruiters contacted me by e-mail and said that if i were to apply now with 5 years experience in peds, i would start about $23.00. the hospital i work for now, with 5 years in peds would only start me out just above new grad pay, about $17.00. our area may not have the highest cost of living, but the rates of pay for rn's is absurd. any opinions on unions for nurses?

This is going back and forth. Look, I am the only LPN on our unit. I flush central lines and havg IV's on central lines. The job limitations for LPN's differ by state. Unless there is a problem, the RN's I work with spend less than 10 minutes per shift with my patients. I never said that I expected 90% of an RN's wages. All I expect is fair pay for work performed. ALL nurses don't get the pay they deserve.

By the way, I DO NOT feel that an LPN should make what an RN does.

Oh people. Please understand that I am not bashing RN's in any way. I am a firm believer that ALL nurses are under paid. I grew up with nurses all around me. I was simply saying that I feel that I am under paid for the job I do as an LPN. I understand the responsibility of an RN. My responsibilities as an LPN on my floor almost mirror that of the RN. I guess I was just venting a little bit and I was wanting feedback from other nurses to see if I was justified in asking for a raise or if I was just truely being a big baby.:rotfl:

I am continuing my education. I have been accepted into a BSN program and I start in the fall. The pay I stated previously is after three years of employment. I found that the annual 3% raise that we get is not the only raise that we may get. I have requested through my boss that my position on our floor be reviewed and possibly get a raise. I do total nursing care in our unit. LPN's in our facility are mostly used for aides and med passers.

I am an LPN in SW Missouri. I make $11.50 an hour. I do 90% of the same job that the RN's do on my floor. Am I whining? Do LPN's really get what they deserve? Does LPN really stand for Low Paid Nurse?
