What is your take on the issue of legalizing marijuana?

I think, that medical marajuana is fine, under specific guide lines....But for legalizing it,no way.........It has been shown to be the hallmark to other drug use, cocaine, crack and heroin....that is fact.....we have enough people running around this country having drinking consequences....like we need anymore impaired people ..........Secondly,it is fat soluable and lingers in the body for extended periods of time......as ETOH is water soluable and is disposed of rather quickly........the smoke from marajuana is by all accounts more toxic then the average cigarette......that is all we need is more diseases from all the toxic effects.........

Why is it that people need to "escape" from life by getting high .....seems people cant cope with life as it is,and just want to escape it with a drug.....

Also, folks, just by making it "legal" doesnt mean that the medical people that choose to smoke it cant flunk a drug test and be fired for being impaired at work!.....ETOH is legal but you cant drink and work........and marajuana would be easily tested for and found in your system and.......you have a major problem on your hands!!

Also,no thanks,I dont want some pot head nurse taking care of anyone I love or me for that matter.....Nor would I like to be working with someone in the like manner either.......

I grew up in the 60's.....yea I smoked some back then,it was fun....no i dont miss it at all.......time to grow up and be responsible......and I have a glass of wine occassionly.......and I dont smoke cigarettes with,It has been 23mos since i had a cigarette :smiley_aa

Legalizing it would: solve prison overcrowding,(135,000 inmates are in for mj offenses) help pay down the national debt, reduce crime and gang activity, reduce the drug trade with other countries, (less money that could be used for terrorism),allow gov't control making it safe and pure (no PCP, etc.), provide a cash crop for our farmers(it's already the number one cash crop in America!) I'm sure there are more good reasons...

Great ideas! Yes let's get these marijuana smokers out of prison. I would rather use those 135,000 inmate beds for "baby rapers."

People could grow their own tobacco, make their own vodka with homegrown potatoes, or their own beer with barley and hops, but they rarely do, because it's too easy to just buy the best quality product at the store, despite the taxes. It would be no different with marijuana.

I agree. :)

I have been around lots of people who have been smoking, and never once felt any effects from it, so I guess it depends on the person. I'm all for legalizing it. First of all, I dont care what anyone says, its not addictive. I have never known one single person in my life who has been addicted to it. Second of all, it is IMPOSSIBLE to OD on it. Third of all, it basically has the same effects as alcohol, but alcohol is legal. There are LOTS of more car crashes caused from alcohol than marijuana, and again no one has a problem with alchohol being legal. Also, cigarette smoke second-hand smoke have effects and health effects on people, and cigarettes are legal. Attention needs to start being directed towards SERIOUS drugs that are addictive like coke, heroin, painkillers, etc, thats where the serious problems are.

I agree - back in the day when I did stupid things like take drugs, drive drunk, etc. I found out that when I drove stoned, I was more likely to be alert and careful driving than under the influence of alcohol. I actually drove slower, and watched what I was doing. A lot of my friends and my S.O. still smoke up on occasion, and I'm always terrified that the smoke by osmosis will cause me to have a positive drug screen should I be randomly tested at work, even though I don't get any effects from the second hand smoke :o

I think someday marijuana will be legal, and I'm all for it. Tho I do worry that when it does become legal, that they will start putting all kinds of nasty additives in it the way they do cigarettes, which is NOT good. But I also think when/if legalized, it should not be as easy to get as a pack of cigarettes at the gas station. It should be sold in "smoking stores" - like tobacco or liquor stores, and should have a 21 year old limit like alcohol, since it alters brain function similar to alcohol.

Also in my experience, I have seen MANY mean and violent drunks, but have yet to see someone beat up their wife because they were stoned (on marijuana that is).

Just my Humble Opinion.

I have seen violent stoners, I've seen stoners beat their wives and kids, I've seen stoners get into car accidents, etc.

Anything that alters your perception of time and space shouldn't be ingested prior to driving. And while you may have thought you were being safer while driving under the influence of pot, you weren't.

The CHP does a test with high school kids that shows how having their perception altered just slightly makes them unsafe drivers. People don't realize how impaired they really are - you included.

We are trying to ban cell phone use during driving because it causes you to be distracted. Eating and driving causes you to be distracted. Yelling at your kids in the backseat causes you to be distracted.

Why add pot to the mix?

I agree, even though I've long been in favor of legalizing marijuana. Driving stoned is just as dumb as driving drunk, driving tired, driving while eating/drinking/using a cell phone/fighting with your spouse/disciplining children in the back seat/trying to get a bee out of the car/fill in the blank.

Back in my own pothead days, I used to think I was a better driver after smoking a couple of bowls.......until the night I backed right up into a concrete pole at about 20 MPH pulling out of a parking lot. It crushed the hell out of my trunk, damaged the pole (which was private property), and nearly got me busted for hit-and-run (somebody heard the crash, got my car license number and called the cops, who thankfully didn't think this was all that big a deal and didn't seem to notice that I was high at the time).

There is just too much going on on the highways at any given time for people to be driving distracted. This is NOT the time for multi-tasking......anything that detracts from one's ability to perform as complex a task as maneuvering 3000 pounds of metal and fiberglass down a public highway, should be banned altogether.

I have a relative who has ruined his life just by being a 'pot' smoker. He is incapible of making a rational descision and becomes paranoid. He looks stoned 70% of the time, and hangs around with less than desirable friends. All dont work, dont play just live for the smoke.

It saddens me every time I look at this lost cause. Legalising it would mean he would be stoned 100% of the time. they say that canabis is not addictive I dont believe it, maybe for the older generation who used it at weekends it wasn't, but for the young generation I think it is a sad addiction.

This young man was tested for all drugs and he only tested positive for canabis, before any one suggests he may have taken a step forward!!

It destroys life, especially our young as it demotivates the already demotivated. :crying2:

Marla!! You are one lucky girl.

Let's not forget the inhibition lowering properties of smoking pot . . . yeah, I really want my daughter to go out on a date and smoke pot with a guy . . that sounds like a great idea.

More judgment impaired folks running around??? No thanks - see more than my share in the ER.

Yes, there are more than a few of these sad sacks, and that to my mind is the main drawback to marijuana (although there are a LOT more alcoholics than potheads, and we all know the damage ETOH does to humanity). I remember in my own stoner days, how the stuff didn't make me combative or profane or uninhibited like booze did; it merely robbed me of any ambition I might ever have had. I don't need that.......I'm already lazy enough as it is! :chuckle And honestly, I don't think I could do everything I need to do in life now if I were still smoking.

Maybe someday, when I retire.......ahhhhhh........of course, my poor asthmatic lungs are bound to protest, so I think I'll just forget about it and learn to love needlepoint or something. :chuckle
