Maricopa Spring 2016 Block 1 students

Published

So we all should have heard weeks ago about our placement now I wanted to start a place for the preparation for Block 1.

I know Fall semester still needs to start and end before we can even get to block 1, but hey I'm to excited.

How is everyone doing getting situated for the universitys?

When is everyone thinking about starting the stuff that needs to be done for Maricopa (I.e. medical papers, titer tests, CPR)?

Any word from Gateway?

Still nothing over here.

Yeah, I got an email with a TON of info from my professors. Hopefully you'll get something soon!

For Gateway people - is orientation really just the week before we start? Seems like other schools have either already had their orientations or they are happening in December. Makes me nervous that we won't have info in time to accomplish what we need to for starting...

Yes, orientation is a week before school starts. I was told we have to complete all health and safety items before orientation, so I'm not sure what you mean by having time to accomplish things. Books are available for purchase (but won't be in stock until the end of this month), the health and safety forms are all online, and you should be getting a tentative schedule soon. Don't stress! :)

Has anyone received the second packet from MCC yet?

So I just got off the phone with someone at Gateway - the Advisor line, and they told me that we should be getting the second email about how to upload our documents. Be prepared to pay and extra $25 for that to Certified Profile. She also stated that would be the only other email we would get and any other info will be given at orientation.

Also she mentioned that we can go to the bookstore to look at scrubs and they have gently used scrubs for purchase as well.

And... that's about it. :)

For any MCC students I just received what I believe is their second packet with info on books and other things. Check your student email

EMCC gave us the schedule. I'll post it because I know there's people that are curious about the block 1 schedules. Remember is could change still, and changes every semester. But just to give others an idea of the amount of days and hours it is...

Block 1 for EMCC:

Monday and Tuesday lecture 9am-11:30am

Weds and fri lab- 7am-4pm (this changes when clinicals start)

Also just a heads up, we weren't allowed to pick our clinical spots, they placed us on their own. I know other schools let their students pick from the rotations they have available, this is not the case with EMCC (at least it wasn't this semester). I would've loved a chance to pick the spot that worked best for my family schedule, but oh well. I'm being flexible! Lol

Gateway students, I got my second email! Check your emails. You will need to respond to it within the next 48 hours.

So much stuff!!

:)

Yep! Lots of wonderful info from Gateway! I'm happily overwhelmed.

Block 1 schedule (for those interested):

Mondays 12:30-4, Tuesdays 12:30-4:30

Labs Wed/Thurs 8-4 until clinicals start.

For those already in block 1, are there two clinical days to replace the one lab day or just one? And is it a 12 hour clincal shift? (Just starting to plan for kid pick-up stuff...)

Oh and our email for Gateway said clinicals will not be assigned until several weeks into the semester and that we will not be able to choose either.

thanks for sharing. Do clinicals ever land on weekends? I wouldn't mind that at all. Just trying to figure out child care as well.
