Longest Shift You've Worked

Nurses General Nursing

As nurses, there may be times we are required to work long days. The other day, I successfully worked my first 23 hour shift.

What is the longest shift you've ever worked?

You know Silver Bells, when you drop dead from overwork, management will replace you and the place will still go on.

Managed to leave after only 10 hours of work today.  I've started a new goal of trying to leave by 7pm every night (e.g work from 8 am to no  later than 7).  Hopefully this will be sustainable.  There were some things about last week that make me nervous and I am grateful no grave errors were made.  Long hours aren't worth the potential mistakes and I fear they might start happening if my schedule doesn't get under control

Good goal but you should be committing to leave work by 4pm

Just like it did BEFORE you got there!

If I was your manager, I’d fire you. If you are working 16-20+ hours a day, five days a week, you are incapable of doing your job effectively, proficiently or capably. You are modeling atrocious behavior to your staff.  Nothing you are doing is appropriate workplace behavior.

This was my third 20+hour shift within 10 working days; last Monday was 20 hours, last Friday was 21 hours, yesterday was 23 hours. I took today off

Do not ever admit to those hours on the witness stand.

Probably because I've been routinely working 12-20+ hour shifts for so long.  People are used to me being there almost all hours of the day, evening and even night

They can get un-used to it.  Just like they'll have to when you're dead.

You are incorrect when you state that you have nothing besides work to occupy yourself.  You have my favorite preoccupation: sleep.  Glorious, abundant sleep!

No matter what anyone says, you will continue on this unhealthy path and post your humble brags about being scolded for putting patients first and working a really unsafe number of hours. Best of luck to you, take care.

YES.

And I propose that going forward, everyone simply respond with the bolded every time she posts *** like this. Because while she might think it's amusing or cute, the rest of us just find it tiresome.

Good luck. Take care.

And @DavidFR I would like to see more of your posts!

Maybe if I stay quiet I will experience success and do something right.

I'm sorry, but that's ***. They are not paying you extra to work 55 hours a week.

Sorry. Forgot my own suggestion.

Good luck. Take care.

Take up needlepoint or cross-stitch. It’s calming, allows for reflection, and you can do it outdoors in nature, or indoors listening to calming music. Embrace the philosophy of the Persian carpet makers, who left imperfections in their designs because only God / Allah can do things perfectly.

I suggest a pillow cover with the word “HUMBLEBRAG” on it. When it‘s finished you can have a ceremonial burn to leave that part of your life behind you, since it clearly isn’t working out.
