Let the Healing Begin

Published

I believe that since the Biden inauguration, much of the world is breathing a small sigh of relief. I know I am. Yes, there are STILL the dissenters and non-believers and rebels, but for the most part, I think we are safer and headed for better times.

Was watching Dr Fauci on a TV news clip this morning. The man looks 10 years younger!! Like the wt of the nation and world has been shifted off his shoulders.

I can barely imagine the overwhelming psychological and emotional distress that man must have endured since the beginning of this pandemic and the disconnect with DJT. DJT. Such a professional and personal conflict. Yet he always remained the expert professional he is.

In past history, he'd have been beheaded by King Henry VIII or executed by Hitler for his dire cautionary warnings that were so contrary to DJT's.

JMHO, but the man deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for Health and this nation's highest civilian medals, the Presidential Medal of Freedom or Congressional Gold Medal.

Thanks for the clarification.  I pretty much agree and said the same thing essentially so not sure why went went off on this tangent.  LOL

I wonder if what would progressives say if he compromised a bit say on the stimulus and instead of 1.9 trillion but not 600 billion he met somewhere in the middle and they all agreed.  Would progressives get upset and call him "selling out and caving" the way the did Pelosi or would they applaud the diplomacy.  Just speculating because compromise and reaching a deal is pretty much a thing of the past. Progressives being equally guilty of digging their heels in.

Certainly there would be upset liberals.  There are always upset people.

I don't think compromise is a thing of the past.  It was alive and well when the ACA was crafted.  Liberals compromised considerably on that legislation in the hopes that it would gain bipartisan support.  Nope. The republicans, then like now, wanted to slow down and influence legislation in ways that hurt the working classes...all while suggesting that they would ultimately vote in support of what they created.  And just like with the ACA, they won't vote for it. Their input and suggestions won't make anything better and they won't vote for it in the end.

After weeks of negotiation and liberal compromise no House republicans voted for the legislation. No Senate Republicans voted for the legislation.

While republicans are currently split into two factions...one ideology driven and one a dangerous cult of personality...they remain united in their agenda of obstructing liberals.

And why shouldn't they? Do you as nurses call upon a first year or inexperienced nurse for advice or to assist in an emergency situation? Do you enlist someone who is a known shirker, who's never shown any interest in anyone but themselves?

No! Because you will be disappointed and end up with a far worse situation than before.

That's republicans! They show little interest in helping the American people or the constituents that elected them. Eg coal miners! Almost all republican voters. In an industry that destroys their lives, their neighborhoods, their health and pays them a pittance. Yet their govt elected representatives are in the boat with the coal industry and their lobbyists. They haven't got drinkable water or health care, they are preyed upon by the law they elected, have some of the worse incidence of cancer etc.

Those stimulus checks keeps them fed and a roof over their heads. They spend that money right back into the community, which uses it to buy something else benefiting the economy. It's not wasted!

What's wasted, is the billions sitting in the banks offshore, not being used or taxed. Anyone who cannot live on $100 million should be in the stocks. It demonstrates an absolutely selfish, inconsiderate and sociopathic person. Even if you felt that you earned it which in most cases, they do. Your humanity should kick in and encourage you to help others. Set up health clinics, education foundations, money for the battered wives and children, homeless shelters. ANYONE WHO IS unable to understand that, needs to be singled out and made a scapegoat! You ARE NOT PART OF THE HUMAN RACE!

Since you have deemed yourself special because of your monetary worth, make them special re their lack of humanity! The planet is dying from the excess of the wealthy and a French Revolution is needed! Or, simply tax them at the same rates you and I have to pay!

It's absolutely the most absurd thing that the more money they have, the less they pay in taxes and the imbeciles who are the most needy, actually vote for the idiots that give them the tax breaks.

No compromise or bipartisanship! Identify the Cruzs and Hawleys and scapegoat them! You deal with bullies on their terms, that's always worked for me!

Behavior modification works because in life, there are consequences! The moment anyone exhibits inconsiderate, bullying traits, you squash them like a bug! Otherwise, you end up with Trump, Erdogan, Putin, Bolsanaro, Chavez, Duertate, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Pol Pot  etc and all because some liberal minded coward didn't have the guts to sort them out in the first place. They kill millions or in our case 440k and counting!

It seems this post has taken a political twist that I had NOT anticipated. Iwas thinking something with less divided opinions.

Agreeing that it will take a Herculean effort by all parties to remedy the st and move forward to the future with open minds and open hearts.

How can you have an open heart and mind when 40 senators are still supporting an insurrection to overturn a legitimate election. It's the ignoring, like McConnell did, that created this climate.

How many people ignored Hitler or Franco until the horrors began? What is the deficit in people who are unable to see terrible people for what they are, even when they literally tell you what they are? Hitler and Volkswagen? Give me your money and I will give you a car with very low repayments. What happened? Factory immediately converted to war making machines. No car for anyone and lost lifetime savings. He deceived them even though he had shown repeatedly what a despicable character he was. Are they culpable in the genocide that followed? These are the broad strokes of what happened. He showed from day one, what he was. He staged an attempted coup.

When you ignore 40 senators of which the main voice is that of a QAnon convert and very likely another 10 are believers, you condone and embolden them. McConnell is only now trying to remove the cancer that he is responsible for. In our profession, why do we try to remove or control cancer? Because it will eventually kill us or make our lives very miserable! What do you do to full blown alcoholics or addicts? Tough love.

There is no mediation or tiptoeing around certain people or situations. We all understand that is how we would like the optimal approach to be, but I suggest that you review your approach to delusional people. You do not REINFORCE delusional content!

I am easily one of the most gentle people I know, but come near my family or loved ones and you will find out what intelligence, coupled with a really large person can do. These people are actually threatening me and my family with their insanity! Not directly but eventually. I prefer preparedness as a tactic!

For crying out loud sake. Five people died. People who had parents, siblings, children! Has death become so mundane so as to lose your reference point?

President Biden made an unannounced visit to the Capital to pay respect to Officer Sicknick -- he'd spent 30+ years in Senate and offer comfort to the Capital Police..  Another way Biden's helping to heal the country.

It is healing to have authenticity and compassion in the White House.

It is healing to have our Constitution, our Independence, Bill of Rights, knowledge that free and fair elections and independent judiciary that upholds those elections, are still mostly intact and functional, after the unparalleled assault from the greatest criminal this country has ever seen, who was aided and abetted by the worst unpatriotic cowards in the GOP!

That's what I am grateful for! To have someone decent in the White House and give us all some relief from the madness of the last four years! To breathe again.

Now we have almost two years to relax before the scorge of the GOP can rear their ugly heads again.

I'm all for healing, but until the "Alt-right" trolls go back into the holes in the ground from whence they came, I don't think it'll be possible. Trumps presidency was a poison that seeped into society and repercussions of that have been global. I fear that if we don't put our foot down as a society, that his influence will create people even worse than him.

Their perverted sense of morality is nothing more than fascist ideology with an American flag draped over it.

Absolutely right!

I still have knots in my stomach that Trump tried to upend such a sacred thing as a free and fair election. Something I always took for granted. The psyche of the man to take the cornerstone of what America stands for, the thing that guarantees, incl him, his freedom and wealth. He really needs to be in jail for the rest of his life!

I just worry that the majority of the public is still so ignorant that they actually don't understand what they could have lost and the jeopardy they put us in. It's why I really can't forgive them, even if I believe they are simply uneducated and ignorant. We are creating a population of idiots.

There is a movie I saw some time ago called, Idocracy, I think. That should be mandatory viewing for students with a proper understanding of what it entails. It's no wonder that only a few people own everything, when you have such an ignorant population to work with.

People not only easily give up their rights for trinkets, but seem eager to do so.

I feel that the ultimate problem is ideology. When we focus so much on one narrative, forego communication, and demonize the opposing party, then we are in a tailspin of societal neglect.

It easy to attribute someone entire argument under the heading of Alt-Right or Left-wing nut, but then we don't learn. We cannot develop meaningful connections and true healing until we do so.

So yes, democrats will have to live with being called hypocrites for some calling for the disestablishment and red scare tactics of the last 4 years, and now call for unity and peace.

Yes, Republicans will now be called terrorists for some staging a protest and trespassing on federal property.

But that is not me. I hope that this is not you. We are individuals who cannot be summed up in simple terms. So let us be complex. Let us be different. Most of all, lets talk and work together.

I agree with a lot of what you say. I wish we could have civil discourse but the problem with that is that the cornerstone of the Alt Right is exclusion of that which is not "normal". What cannot be understood is labeled as unpatriotic, traitor, communist, sacreligious. Everything is a battle, there's a war against christians, a war against white america, a war on american pride, a war against guns.

I have been conditioned to be reluctant to trust and at times like conservatives based off how I've been treated, my friends, acquaintances for years by those who now follow the Alt-right. I do not hate them, my best friend is a diehard Trump supporter and if truth be told Q-anon believer. The past 4 years has challenged our life long friendship but it has remained intact mainly because we don't discuss that which we are hopelessly deadlocked on. I have co-workers who are Trump supporters and even a couple flat earthers. Once again we don't discuss those aspects of our lives (which I don't think politics should be discussed in the workplace anyway), and it works for us.

Coming together on a personal level and co-existing maybe possible for some but I fear that too much has happened for meaningful healing to take place in the immediate future on a societal level.

My problem is extrapolation. I automatically do what ifs.

If you believe in lizard people, then by extension you are negating biology and science. So no matter how nice you are to me, when the situation arrives for clear and logical thinking, can I depend on you?

If you believe in Trump, then by extension, you are unable to be a good judge of character and succumb easily to trendy memes, so what other friends do you have, that is likely to be a an unsavory character and how will they affect my life?

I mostly operate logically to minimize the impact of questionable occurrences from flawed friends. It's been my experience that blind people bump into things! And, flawed people get into trouble!

America is not Europe where you can make human mistakes and society will give you the benefit of the doubt allowing you to rebuild your life. You can get a parking ticket in America and if you are unable to pay, a private company employed by the govt, might, using exorbitant fees for loans etc can land you in jail with a chequered history and ruin your life. This is only a mild exaggeration!

This is a country where people are denied health care and it's championed by the people themselves who are unable to fathom that there for the grace of God, go I! People go bankrupt from health care bills!

It's almost as if people are unable to have decency and willingly embrace someone like Trump who has the morality and ethics of a venomous snake!

What are the capabilities of someone who picks up a gun, to go to the white house to overthrow an election and kill people? How little forethought does it take to envisage the outcomes?

I don't want to come together with people like that. They are as alien to me as Nazis! I am afraid that they are contaminated and will self destruct affecting me in their blast radius. I know such people and it's impossible to communicate with them, because they are speaking Russian. It's in their nature and I've seen so many times, that sooner or later, their explosions, involving their families and friends, blighting them and causing so much harm.

Trump has taken down so many people with him who has believed his lies and nonsense. And, he's going to take down even more in the future! He's as toxic as a human can possibly be!
