I believe that since the Biden inauguration, much of the world is breathing a small sigh of relief. I know I am. Yes, there are STILL the dissenters and non-believers and rebels, but for the most part, I think we are safer and headed for better times.
Was watching Dr Fauci on a TV news clip this morning. The man looks 10 years younger!! Like the wt of the nation and world has been shifted off his shoulders.
I can barely imagine the overwhelming psychological and emotional distress that man must have endured since the beginning of this pandemic and the disconnect with DJT. DJT. Such a professional and personal conflict. Yet he always remained the expert professional he is.
In past history, he'd have been beheaded by King Henry VIII or executed by Hitler for his dire cautionary warnings that were so contrary to DJT's.
JMHO, but the man deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for Health and this nation's highest civilian medals, the Presidential Medal of Freedom or Congressional Gold Medal.
God bless the person who was upset that I didn’t pick Democrat or republican. I hope nothing but the greatest for everyone brave enough to keep talking no matter what others say.

Alien very well can be dehumanizing, "different way of thinking" is pretty benign and with as passionate as this thread has been I doubt it was meant in such a way. Alien, freak, outsider, when you're on the receiving end of those terms, can feel very dehumanizing.
I think that the political response thus far has been appropriate, it's society's response that I think is what we need to mindful of.
I must agree that alien means different things but if we were not being so critical of words it only really means different or strange to my experience to me. But I am older

I can't dispute that any word really can be used to hurt people. People also might feel insulted by a word when no insult was intended. My understanding of the word alien would not lead me to feel offended or dehumanized by it's use in a communication that was not otherwise insulting or dehumanizing.

Unfortunately it's the system that we have to work with. I also think that it's the people we elect that corrupts the system. It's an excellent system if honorable, patriotic people are elected. It's designed to evolve accommodating whatever may crop up.
We need to educate the public so they can be better informed and capable of discerning the charlatans from the proper public servants.
Republicans appear to have a streak of criminality about them which is why they always seem to go for authoritative, incompetent politicians.

True. Except, only for a few, very few, that seem to put the Republic before their jobs.
Current events re MTG and Trump might bear me out. We'll see how they vote tomorrow.
They are elected to represent their constituents best interests, not popularity agendas. They swear an oath to the constitution which IMO if they deviate from, demonstrates a propensity towards bad character and doesn't bode well for future decisions.
Ours is do no harm and it applies to us as well. Everything else stems from that overiding rule which can always guide us to doing the right thing.

What I've found so disturbing is how global the embrace to authoritarian leaders and fascist ideologies has been since the rise of Trump. That's what I fear, that his influence has awoken something we won't be able to contain.

The global trending is no accident. We ain't out of the woods yet.

See I’m not good at this but you could go back and see where you told me about some group from the right . Not trying to argue but would never have gotten sarcastic had you not told me to comment and then told me what you did. I don’t know you but my opinion is mine. If you want me to pick between what we have been given to choose between the last two presidential elections I personally think we can do better. 350 million people in our country and that’s what we get. I live in Indiana. Our primaries are a pre selected group of two parties and 1 candidate for each. In general. I’m disgruntled and believe we can do better. Have a great day but I truly respect what I believe as I am sure you do.
