Leaving Nursing for Another Career

Published

Has anyone thought about or actually left nursing for another career? What non-nursing career would you be interested in?

I would like to do something anatomy/lab/research related, with a predictable work environment, routine, minimal patient contact, and lots of science!

We have the exact same dreams!! :-)

I'd like to write earth-shattering poetry and my volumes would appear on the New York Times bestsellers list.

I'm hoping to become a health coach someday soon and help people work on health goals.

Specializes in ICU.

Doggie Day care that caters to health care worker hours. Also working on a top secret idea.

i am Diploma Rn 5 years Home Health and Management followed by 14 years surgery no computer experience in EMR signed up for CCM training soon laid off for 4 months I want to work form home Help how do I get that chance . so burnt out and 3 yrs s/p Colorectal CA just want out of patient care and flexability from home too young to retire yet . Any one help

I WAS a lab manager and research scientist...so maybe if I I popped out some kids and wanted some mommy hours, I'd go back to academic research. If you can find a good PI to work for and field to be in, hours are very flexible and you get most major holidays off.

Wouldn't do a lab with cell culture, though. :nono: Those dumb things need cared for more than pets and kids!

What do you mean by Pl?

I'd like to be a cruise critic. I'd be good at it, and I would get to write too!

...minimal patient contact, and lots of science!

Hahaha, eventually we all crave roles with minimal patient contact. Most of my friends have transitioned into research positions or freelance. It's amazing, as human punching bags, that we nurses last as long as we do in direct patient care.

I want to be a historic preservationist so bad I can taste it. I always wanted to be but couldn't afford architecture school which, at the time, was the only way to be one.

What do you mean by Pl?

The principal investigator, basically the lead researcher.

Specializes in ICU/UM.

Cryptozoologist. El Chupacabra would be mine.
