Sending you positive thoughts also - we are all in this together.

we have been asked to give up a days woth of vacation each ,everyone in the hospital,my hospital is in north carolina,i know of a hospital in New York where the employees were asked to give 3 days,we all were happy to give the days,we'd give more to be able to keep working,i'm sending good thoughts your way:wink2:

I began picking up 6 days a week of work out of fear. Fear, one week I may not have the hours so get it now while I can and put it away.

This is an excellent strategy, imo. Its doubtful my facilities will lay off any nurses but I'm also loading up on the hours when offered. For those with only 1 job it might be a good time to look into adding a part-time position as a pre-emptive strike.

Sue,

I feel your pain. I never know if I'll have a job when I go to work. I really like my job and lately have been picking up extra hours and putting myself on call, "just in case."

I'm hoping you fly under the radar. You've worked so hard for your RN.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Fingers and toes crossed for you Sue,You worked hard and built up that position.

I have recently changed my workplace from the hospital (med/surg) to an infusion RN in an infectious diseases office. The hospital closed the floor for 3 months then only opened half for another month. We were getting "called off" of course without pay, I ended up with NO vacation time to speak of having to use those days if I wanted to get paid. Sorry for such grim news but I think it's going to be like this for a while all throughout the country.

Best of luck...hopefully you will be kept because of your advantage over others.

gosh sue , i send prayers and hugs your way.. please keep us posted on what happens. this ecomony is hitting hard everywhere, i know at my hospital we have had lots of cuts, and layoffs. we all got raises but we don't get them untill feb, luckily they are rertoactive.

OH NOES!!

Also sending good thoughts your way! You are a good person that doesn't need to be laid off! =D

How typical (in my opinion) that they would announce it on a Friday (to ruin everyone's weekend, so they can stew and worry about it all weekend).

Good luck!

So sorry to hear the news Sue :(

I've worked in a previous hospital that chose this exact time of year to announce that it was closing. I wonder if there is some tactic to picking this time of year to scare the staff?

I think it's detestable that there is so much effort put in to become a nurse when you're told that there's such a shortage, only to find out that the hospitals put hiring freezes on nursing positions, as well as threaten to enforce layoff's and the current staff have to work short.

I hope things work out. Layoffs in nursing sounds scarey. I'm a new nurse RN-wise, how can they layoff nurses?

aw sue, if they love your numbers, i would hope that means they value your position as well.

dang...

many prayers, my friend.
