  1. Finally received information on the accuvein. The retail price for the unit is $4,500 (to purchase outright). They do have a lease to own option which is quite attractive. two-hundred a month, one year to decide if you would like to purchase unit. no interest. If you do decide to purchase, the money you spent ($2400) is applied to the purchase. From what I understand it is a laser that responds to the hemoglobin in the blood making the vein stand out.
  2. I operate two Infectious Diseases offices running and working in the infusion suites. I am considering purchasing this product Accuvein AV300 (www.accuvein.com) for my own personal use. Before I do so I would like some input from "real people" not sales people. Any information, opinions, comments, complaints will be very much appreciated. Also, if anyone has info on pricing (nothing listed on website). Thanks everyone for your assistance. :redbeathe~Matthew
  3. OK...I think I understand. Thanks again.
  4. I'm a little confused. Isn't the CRNI also a "course" that one takes. Finishing by taking an exam to show your knowledge of the presented material? I am not knocking the CRNI/INCC by any means I am taking the exam as well. I just don't understand why you think that there is a difference? Why one is so much better than another? Thanks:jester:
  5. I am currently a member of ANAC Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and am joining the INS Infusion Nurses Society. I feel personally, that a "specialty association" will provide me with more needed or usable benefits than the ANA for example. ie: journals, CEU's and the like. Hope this helps. Good Luck !
  6. There is a certification process. I believe this is what you are looking for. Check out this link, it will take you to a company called PICC Excellence. Good luck. The following is direct link to certification topic. http://www.piccexcellence.com/education/CERTIFICATION.php?page=self_picc_cert
  7. I'm in South Florida (Dade, Broward and Palm Beach areas) I know as fact that in Broward and Palm Beach counties, every hospital has at least a full unit closed. some have closed two units. Most hospitals are giving mandatory time off. We do have a cyclical season when the "snow birds" come down from the north it does pick up a little. Though the last two years have not been the same as in the past. I personally checked two area hospitals online for jobs and found 2 yes a total of two. Sorry for the bad news but I think it's grim in many areas of the country especially metro areas. Best of luck to her.
  8. :banghead:I am so very sorry to hear about your situation. I AGREE WITH YOU 150% I HAVE BEEN SAYING THE SAME THING FOR YEARS!!!! Keep your head up and know something will happen. I know that down here in SoFl (Dade,Broward and Palm Beach) every single hospital has closed at least one unit and are calling nurses off left and right. I left the hospital for many reasons. One reason was getting called off and having to use all my PL time (if I cared to get paid). I hadn't had a vacation in almost 2 years. If I continued that I would surely burn out and leave nursing completely. I am very lucky I left the hospital a year ago and got a job running an infusion suite, but it took me about 3 months, and I have 18 years of nursing experience. Have you considered or tried MD office work? Maybe there is a shortage of Nurses in like Idaho or Montana but not in the major metropolitan areas. We need to be treated as such. I know this doesn't give you a job but I hope it gives you a little solace. I will be thinking good thoughts. Best of Luck.
  9. I was suprised as well and thanks for the info.
  10. can anyone help me? i am in south florida. i realize there will be differences from state to state but i need to make a decision. do i continue this practice or refuse to do it? i have combed the nurse practice act and nothing is mentioned (only lpn regulations about iv's). what are your state regulations on mixing iv medications (all of them are antibiotics like vanco and rocephin) in a physician's office? i am the infusion nurse in an id office and i have been mixing these medications for patients daily. i recently heard that it's against the law for me to do so? i was told they must be mixed under a hood in special iv rooms. i also was told that the pharmacy that is supplying the meds to us unmixed, is also breaking the law. i thank you in advance for any help or direction.

  12. GOOD LUCK ! Just stop and take a deep breath now and again. Don't try to finish in an hour. Take your time. You will do well!
  13. Kulassky76 hit the nail on the head. With the Lipodystropy satement. I was involved as a study coordinator for the very first treatment of Lipoatrophy of the face for HIV + patients with a drug called New-Fill (now Sculptra). My Partner of 11 years is HIV + and suffers from severe Lipodystrophy. The only thing I could think of is because of the redistribution of fat may be causing Lipomas to form. Will keep my eyes open for other information. M.K. (ANAC) Association of Nurses in AIDS Care member.
  14. I know you stated you are trying not to travel. I don't know that much about the Palm Beach area. I live in Ft Lauderdale and graduated from Miami Dade College. I was enrolled in the part-time track which made it very easy to travel. The traffic is pretty much non existent that early in the morning. The courses are difficult and the grading scale is tough, but the instructors are really wonderful, they are encouraging, helpful, understanding when you need to take a day off and really try to help those that are struggling. I must compliment Bonnie Hammack, ARNP in particular. She is an amazing instructor, nurse and friend. I worked at NBMC and had many BC students roate through and the instructors seemed to be OK but that was toward us nurses and in public, who knows what happens behind closed doors. Miami Dade College is now offering a BSN program which was not available when I was there. I definitely would have chosen it. I wish you much luck on the college hunt.
  15. I completely understand. I grew up in Southern Indiana (almost Kentucky) I hated being in that city almost every day of my 18 years there:banghead:. I too hope that one day acceptance and understanding will be common in all cities and states. I invite anyone to come to South Florida it is much more comfortable than many other states for GLBT people:kiss. Stay away from central and northern Florida it still VERY much backwards. Thanks for the input you made me remember what it must be like in some states. Matthew
