  1. funny you bring this up. i started a thread awhile ago r/t this same topic and got raked over the coals for it (i had expressed that i was frustrated that people are going into nursing because it's good money, etc.). the thread was eventually closed. i agree with you - i understand that people have families and need income, but i think it's nice when people have other motives for going into nursing.
  2. I read this and felt so bad for you. I am sort of (you have experience, whereas I don't) in the same position...same old story: new grad struggling (seriously struggling) to have someone take a chance on me. Anyway, I hate to sound cliché and I'm sure heard it a million times before, but don't beat yourself up over this. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. You will find something. I can't help but imagine (and pray) that there will be another nursing shortage and hospital won't be so picky and positions will open up. I know it's tough - trust me. I feel your pain to the fullest. Try to hang in there and stay where you are and look at other hospitals. Keep us updated.
  3. Honestly, I would say take it. Just because other new grads quit their jobs doesn't mean you'll have a bad experience. I truly believe that if you have supportive co-workers, you will be fine. I have huge respect for Subacute/LTC/Nsg home RN's because they do SO much and work unbelievably hard. You will learn a TON and get great time management skills!!! Like you said, some experience is better than none. At least you will be working....if you don't like it or it's just too much you can always leave and wait until the market opens back up hopefully in the Spring. Good Luck!!!!
  4. all i can say is "i'm so sorry!" i am stunned by the horrendous ignorance of others.
  5. I agree with Cubanita.....working on your MSN right now will look great to employers. It is a little easier to get a job here where I am (Northern CA) when you have experience. The market for new grads here is terrible right now, but as far as I know experienced nurses have it a little better. Hopefully by the time you're ready to move out here, things should pick up a little bit! CA is a great place to live...I think you'll like it!
  6. i would do the pre-req's at a jc (saves some $$) and then try to transfer to a university. bsn's are looked upon very favorably for certain medical centers. do lots of volunteer work...this really shows that you have an interest. nursing school has become very competitive, so make sure you do really well in your pre-req's. being a cna will give you good prep for nursing school too. good luck!
  7. i've seen quite a bit of "bsn strongly preferred" and i have also seen a couple bsn required. if they do start to require all adn's to get their bsn, i hope they plan of paying for it. yikes.
  8. some people seem to not like you before they like you. i've never understood that mentality, but you won't change some people. just go in, do you work, be cordial and go home. i doubt it's anything you're doing...it's sounds like their problem. just focus on being a great nurse for your patients! :wink2:
  9. this is the last response i will make. i have no problem with honesty....in fact, i prefer it. you're right - lying to me and telling me it will be okay doesn’t' help me. however, your "brutal honesty" makes you just come across as an absolute *******. you might want to consider how you word things…..
  10. wow. how unbelievably rude. according to all the nurse managers i have interviewed with, i am doing nothing wrong - it's just horrible times. they all decided to go with experienced nurses. out of my graduating class of 80, 4 have found jobs. bunch of jobs? for you, maybe...not for new grads. they are paying travelers to "come and play" because you are cheaper. it is expense to train new grads. i guess you've been out of the loop for awhile. i will keep everything else i want to say to you to myself.
  11. To everyone (mostly everyone): I just want to thank you again for all your empathy and support. I will absolutely look into ALL of the ideas and job postings you either posted on here or sent to me. I am grateful for all your help and understanding. :bowingpur I KNOW that there is nothing wrong with me and they I am a great candidate and will be an excellent nurse (when I get all my bearings and such). I am not looking for nor did I expect to get my “dream job” right out of college. I need to pay my dues. I just want to learn as much as I possibly can to be the best nurse I can be. In the meantime, I will just volunteer and continue to take as many CE’s as I can to keep my skills as fresh as possible (esp. since I will soon be competing with December grads.....). I guess this post was just more of a vent of my frustration. I hope I didn’t come across entitled or snobby – I just want to be a nurse already! Again, thank you for your support and comforting words. I know I will get a job eventually. I am trying my hardest to perk up and look at the positive, bright side of things. I really am trying….but I have my weak moments. This too shall pass.
  12. i would love to look into it – i would very much appreciate the email. i did apply to the fl program you sent me, but never heard back. i will definitely look into the nc one. thank you! i have applied to several clinics – even the one i work at. they all want experience and won’t hire new grads. i don’t care if they pay less. as long as i can make the minimum payments on my bills, i’m fine. i have tried all clinics – i am not being picky. i just want experience. i have applied for er tech, cna, and pca positions – they won’t hire me because i am new grad. i will for sure look again tonight. thank you for the info! very true. touché. at this point, as long as i can make the minimum payments each month and don't default on loans or monthly payments, i don't care what i get paid. i have had several people (even professionals) look at my résumé and they all say it looks great. i am definitely trying to be more creative in avenues to get experience. thank you for the advice!!! i talked to three of the four managers that interviewed me (the fourth one would not return my phone calls or email). i ask them what it is that i can improve upon. they all said i interviewed very strongly - they just decided to hire experienced nurses, not a new grad. dh can't relocate - he just got a promotion that he's worked for years to achieve. i will just need to leave without him for a couple years
  13. oh, dear. i think i might have come across like an idiot. i am definitely grateful for at least having a job. i knew that "you’ll be beating recruiters off with sticks" was a complete and utter lie, but i never thought i would be begging my friends with connections and groveling at feet. i don't know that i can appropriately express, in words, how grateful i am for the words of encouragement and understanding. thank you all.
  14. i *so* appreciate your concern and empathy. :icon_hug: i live in california (no wonder i can't get a job). i have applied for jobs in tx, pa, fl, or, and wa. there's just one issue with working out of state: my debt is so ridiculously high. i would be earning (insert sate) wages with california bills - i don't know if i can afford that. you see, my husband has been footing most of my bills (he is so supportive, i love him dearly for his patience and love) but he can't do it for much longer...he doesn't make that much money himself. so, in order to make my minimum monthly payments for all my bills, i need to make a certain amount. i truly hope that doesn't make me come off as me being picky or snobby. i certainly do not want or mean for it to come off that way.
  15. i have. two of my interviews were 3 1/2 hours away from where i live. i am willing to move away form my husband for a couple years just to get the experience.
