How many of you have grown to love Essential Oils as much as I do?? I just had a student come and ask me if I have any "Lavender'? I knew it was probably some Essential Oil. But, I played dumb, and asked the student what it was. But, that NO I didn't have any, nor would I ever have any. I asked him who sent him to ask...He said the Mrs. SoandSo sent him. He showed me a few small scabbed, burned areas from something that occurred over the weekend when the student was too near the stove when dad was cooking supper.
Sorry buddy... no...never...not ever.
i look at it this way - yes, i do wear a little oil most days. its light. it's nothing compared to the colognes and axe body sprays that the boys in the middle school wear and those pale in comparison to the handful of unfortunate student that come into school reeking of cigarettes because they live with smokers. I have had children ask to borrow my Smoking Stinks book to read with their parent. I gladly lend it out - i don't think it makes an impact.
Flare, or the putrid smell of vaping. Yes, sorry, it SMELLS.
Since when do 16 year old boys smell like cotton candy? Yuck.
I had a kid come in yesterday asking to call his mom to bring his "oil for his feet." I sent him back to class and called mom, apparently there is an oil that curbs ADHD symptoms. To each their own. I tried them out in my house, I mixed lavender with OnGaurd, oddly enough every time I would refill my household would come down with some sort of illness.
At my school, I have one 2nd grade boy who must bathe in oils daily. We can all tell if he's been in the hallway recently, as it leaves a scent trail. I have to use my inhaler every time he's in my office. Mom does not believe me because it has cured his asthma. The oils and the inhaler he uses before PE and recess anyway...
I had one 4th grade boy last year drinking oils in class for his sore throat-mom was thrilled about that one.
One kid told my diabetic student that he could be cured by a combination of oils and that diabetic's parents were just "being held down by the lies doctors tell to keep people from discovering the truth" I hate oils.
Oh, good grief. Did the student interrupt your meditation pose just to ask you for one of your many essential oils??Yes, the essential oils are bugging me right now. My daughter's new math teacher is all about 'em. She comes home with a headache every.single.afternoon from whatever he's burning in class that day and she says she frequently can't ask questions because he'll suddenly stop and go into a yoga or meditation pose and zone out/tune out the entire class.
Wish I could do that in the clinic.
But let a teacher pray to whatever god they want and the world goes apoplectic. My question, would that teacher tolerate a student doing that interruption during class?
I know this is a school nursing post. I will butt in anyway.. I work in a nursing home. I was keeping an eye on a patient with dementia who was very agitated and despite her small size was very strong. She was very anxious and the xanax was not touching her. I remembered I had a little lavender lotion in my bag so I put some on her hands and arms and it actually did calm her a little bit.
I use it in my camper to keep mice out. Never thought of using it on myself. I am an old enough nurse that I remember Peppermint water for nausea, 1 ounce worked well.
Now this thread is going in the right direction!! Does it really work to keep mice out? I store my RRRRRRRR VVVVVVVVVV (picture cousin Eddy) near a wooded area and have a heck of a time keeping the mice out; no matter how many traps I put out.

I hear in Colorado the home health workers give out brownies.
