Keeping Nursing Textbooks...???

Just had a quick question for all you new nurses...I'm starting work as a nurse on April 23rd, and was wondering how many of you kept your old nursing textbooks....I am in the process of selling my maternity, peds, and psych books on ebay, but i wasnt sure if I needed to hold onto my fundamentals and med surg texts...Do any of you new nurses use them anymore?? Thanks for your help!!

Another keeper here. I like having them around for reference, and I didn't want the bookstore to make any more profit off of me! I also find it much easier to look in my books than to muddle my way through search engines on the internet.

Still holding on to mine. I find myself going back to my med-surg book sometimes to review certain systems. Also held onto my fundamentals a.k.a "fun for mentals". Besides, most of my books have doodles, and little side notes from lecture in them, so there is no way I could sell them even if I wanted to lol.

I've kept all my notes and books from uni- not that I really plan on using them (i access what i need via the net these days...) but just cos im a hoarder- never seem to be able to toss things away!

If you can get decent money for them (or even help out someone who may not be able to pay full price for them) then sell them. If you dont think you will need them, go for it! As was re-iterated to me whilst I was a student, "there are more resources out there than just text books!" If you sell them, and suddenly need to know something new, there are always other places to go to find new info

I would keep the books. They were your blood sweat and tears, and can be great references for the future. I have not thrown mine away, still refer to them every now and then. I also purchased one new one that was more inclusive than others.

I am a week and 1/2 away from taking the NCLEX. As soon as I know that I have passed, I am boxing up all of my textbooks and putting them in the attic! I am also going to give all my NCLEX prep materials to my friend who will need them next year. I can't wait to clean off my desk!

I did the same thing with my NCLEX material. Goodness knows I don't want to relive that memory. My friend is telling me now that she intends to pass my stuff to the next person as well.

I am keeping. My peds and maternity are a bit outdated now as is my Fundamentals. New editions were coming out as we used them and now they aren't worth much. I have already been using my Med Surg to clarify things now that I'm USING the info. And I am restudying pharm to understand the med classes I use more in cardiac.

I have kept most of my books from nsg school. I am planning on selling my theories & research books, my leadership & mgt books, mental health, and those pre-nursing books I never got rid of.

I couldn't imagine getting rid of them all as they were uber expensive and have good information inside of them.

Oh, my Kaplan book is going too. I never cracked that book open more than twice.
