Just had a quick question for all you new nurses...I'm starting work as a nurse on April 23rd, and was wondering how many of you kept your old nursing textbooks....I am in the process of selling my maternity, peds, and psych books on ebay, but i wasnt sure if I needed to hold onto my fundamentals and med surg texts...Do any of you new nurses use them anymore?? Thanks for your help!!
I kept mine. How else was I gonna self-diagnose shingles last year? And yep, I was right. The one I've used most often is my pharmacology book by Lehne. If I need to look up a drug it is the book. And if I'm having a bad bout of insomnia, it is the most wonderful sleep aid. Just thinking of the part where it discusses protein binding makes my eyelids droop. That book has more dried drool in it...

I got rid of most but kept a few. I kept my fundamentals book, however I may sell it. I kept my med surg books and I do use those. I also kept my pharm, patho and health assessment book. I never look at the fundamentals book or health assessment book. I may sell both those back.

I kept a lot of books...med/surg, peds, ob, critical care, skills book, EKG book, IV therapy, medical dictionary.
I refer to my critical care and skills book most often. I kept peds and ob in case I want to switch to those areas some day. Of course they'll probably be too old by then so I should have just sold them right away.
I sold all my NCLEX review books on amazon marketplace in one day!
