how do you keep your sexy??

Published

ok - listen - First this is a second career for me and- Two, Cosmetolgy was my first for many years.

I am so accustomed to the world of beauty as I know it with glamourous hair and well manicured nails and such and I feel like I am always this plain Jane all the time. I just wanna run out and get a nice french manicure, french pedicure and stick my foot in a sexy shoe, not some danskos -you know? I am sick of this dog gone pulled back look and or ponytail. I just feel so un-sexy all the time and it starting to affect my self esteem. Not that any of that makes you, but it has been a part of me for so looooong. You know how it is when you get done up and you get an instant bit of swagger in your walk. I'm having some trouble adjusting sometimes. I don't feel like this most days at all but when I do - boy do I feel it. When off the clock, I'm too tired to even care about sexy. It's so sad, because all I do is find some more unsexy clothes like sweats when off the clock- so I am constantly in a state of unsexy.

So what do you do to preserve your sexy??

Being a nurse isn't about being sexy. It is about taking care of people and making them feel better. Not to say that I don't do my hair and put on make up for work. Yes, to feel attractive and comfortable. But sexy??? Not so much. I save that for when I go out now and then. If you wanted to be dressing sexy for work every day I have to wonder if nursing is really for you.Sorry.

Go up to any man and tell them you're a nurse. That's how I keep my sexy! *wink

I am so excited that I am going into a profession where I dont have to wear dress suits, hose, and heels. And I think scrubs and danskos are sexy.

You can always get some of the cuter scrubs that arent so boxy.

Why the need to be sexy at work???

:)

If you need to dress up everyday then get out of floor nursing and move into a different type of nursing. The nurse who did my TB screen recently had on makeup, fancy hair, and high heeled boots. I've been there and done it with the designer office wear look. At one point in my career most of my clothes were custom made - but imo after a while it becomes a hassle to keep up with all that so I'll be happy for the scrubs - nice ones that is and I prefer to do my dressing up on my own time.

You don't have to be a "plane Jane" at work, but you shouldn't be a "hoochie nurse" either. There are tons of nice scrub sets that you can get and different shoes too. Make up is okay as long as it doesn't look like you are going clubing after work...Jewlery...should be kept to a minimum, but you can wear tastefull earing or a necklace. Sorry, but long finger nails are alway a no no in my book.

How long and unrully is your hair? You don't have to have it always pulled up or back, just not in the way and all over the place.

I keep my sexy by working out on my days off and treating myself to a mani/pedi once in a while.

I don't think that's what she meant at all.

I love being able to wear my pajamas to work and not having to get dressed up every day.

Sexy is an attitude, not on the surface. It has nothing to do with hair and makeup. At nearly 40, I can still turn heads in my sweat pants and garden clogs.

At work, I like to look neat and well groomed, but don't feel particularly sexy when I'm wiping someone's butt. Just not the thing that comes to mind, you know? When working the floor, I prefer to exude competence and caring, not sexiness.

In my off time, I take care of myself by working out, eating whole foods, and taking care of myself spiritually by participating in activities that I enjoy, like hiking in the woods, soaking in the hot tub, and training my dog in agility. Being a happy, whole person does wonders for one's "sexy".

That too! :smokin:

I struggle w/ the same thing! I'm a new grad & my looks have gone waaaaaaaaaaaayyy down hill after NSG school.

I think it is important to maintain yourself in a way that helps you feel attractive.

For me - a great pair of jeans, cute top & throwing on some bling can help me feel a little more sexy/attractive etc.

Maybe like the other poster suggested put on some sexy underwear, get a hot pedicure & do things for yourself that help you feel great!

I got a cute shorter haircut that takes less time to do. Got a few hilites, try not to eat all the stuff that families bring in, stay in shape, wear cute scrubs. When I am not working at the hospital I am a nursing instructor so I get to wear nice clothes and it is so much fun. I had to let go of the french manicures though, they get in the way and it hurts when they break, besides they harbor bacteria.
