ok - listen - First this is a second career for me and- Two, Cosmetolgy was my first for many years.

I am so accustomed to the world of beauty as I know it with glamourous hair and well manicured nails and such and I feel like I am always this plain Jane all the time. I just wanna run out and get a nice french manicure, french pedicure and stick my foot in a sexy shoe, not some danskos -you know? I am sick of this dog gone pulled back look and or ponytail. I just feel so un-sexy all the time and it starting to affect my self esteem. Not that any of that makes you, but it has been a part of me for so looooong. You know how it is when you get done up and you get an instant bit of swagger in your walk. I'm having some trouble adjusting sometimes. I don't feel like this most days at all but when I do - boy do I feel it. When off the clock, I'm too tired to even care about sexy. It's so sad, because all I do is find some more unsexy clothes like sweats when off the clock- so I am constantly in a state of unsexy.

So what do you do to preserve your sexy??

On the topic of being sexy both in and out-

any suggestions on what type of hose to wear to reduce the chance of varicose/ spider veins?

I currently wear nurse mates compression knee hose, when I remember.

any suggestions? :bowingpur

thank you from a Wintery Wonderland:snowflake:

I don't know if I necessarily keep my 'sexy', but I try to maintain myself by working out and not letting myself go. Beauty, on the other hand, is something that come's from within; one that takes care of his/her health and body; one that is respectful and doesn't go around gossiping and talking about their coworkers.

Sexy at work = a lot of unwanted attention.

For me, attractive works better. I wear well fitting scrubs, makeup and enjoy a minimalist style.

i'm engaged to another nurse, and he told me he fell in love with my "scrub butt". so i'm not too worried about looking sexy at work. :)

you CAN look polished and professional without being sexy.... it's not a glam job and i don't know anyone who feels sexy after 12 hrs....cleaning poo, sweating from doing chest compressions, or accidentally getting barfed on... no need for lots of makeup, hairdo and acrylic nails-- you will wilt in about 4 hours, trust me. minimal will do.

keep the sexy for your off days.

What with all the low cut scrub pants, I'm surprised anyone can think of much other than whether or not their sexy behind is hanging out.

"sexy" is not a look...

it's a feeling.

zuzi and virgo are right, that it is an attitude that comes from within.

whatever it is that makes you feel good, is going to make you look good.

i've been hit on a lot, and i can tell you that i wasn't wearing anything provocative.

so find that special something that makes you "feel hot"- like gonzo on her bike.

and carry it with you.

that is what defines sexy.

By the time you put bandages, hemostats, pens, lunch money and no telling what else in the two pockets you have most uniforms have the "scrub butt" look LOL, but seriously as others have said, you are immediatly sexy due to the profession in some peoples minds. I try to look professional and clean....sometimes after the day is over the "clean" tends to disappear but at least I have made an effort. :p

You are right sexy is from within, sexy is as sexy does. I also love wearing those nice little undergarments that while not seen by others, helps keep that feeling going. Also all my scrubs are custom fitted, custom made, certainly not off the rack. I also exercise regularly so I am in excellent shape. My hair while simple to maintain is always meticulous. Same with my makeup and nails also. Right now my tan is even wonderfull after my vacation. Life is wonderful.

I think some people misunderstood the OP's intent, I didn't take it at all to mean that she wants to be showing cleavage and have her thong hanging out at work to be sexy. I think she was talking mentally which I totally can relate too. I am not a nurse yet, although I do look forward to the scrubs, but I battled something similar when I became a SAHM. I went from always being dressed, doing my hair, putting on a little make up and taking the time to care what I look like, to going out in sweats and slippers, hair just pulled back. It took a huge toll on my self confidence, I have a husband that thinks I am sexy no matter how I look, eye crusties and all, but if you don't feel it in yourself than it doesn't matter who thinks you are.

I know for me, little things can be a huge boost for me, getting my eyebrows waxed, a pedicure, what have you, I hope you get your zing back, Maybe try cute style ponytails, like find creative ways to put your hair back that isn't the same old ponytail, but makes you feel a little better. Make sure you get scrubs that fit, having baggy clothes is going to make you feel more frumpy Maybe go get a mystic tan or something.

I totally get what you are saying and hope you get out of your funk!!

Really feminine underthings remind me that I'm still a woman. Partly why I refused to wear white scrubs.... ;) and mostly why I didn't mind the scrub-sack look.
