ok - listen - First this is a second career for me and- Two, Cosmetolgy was my first for many years.

I am so accustomed to the world of beauty as I know it with glamourous hair and well manicured nails and such and I feel like I am always this plain Jane all the time. I just wanna run out and get a nice french manicure, french pedicure and stick my foot in a sexy shoe, not some danskos -you know? I am sick of this dog gone pulled back look and or ponytail. I just feel so un-sexy all the time and it starting to affect my self esteem. Not that any of that makes you, but it has been a part of me for so looooong. You know how it is when you get done up and you get an instant bit of swagger in your walk. I'm having some trouble adjusting sometimes. I don't feel like this most days at all but when I do - boy do I feel it. When off the clock, I'm too tired to even care about sexy. It's so sad, because all I do is find some more unsexy clothes like sweats when off the clock- so I am constantly in a state of unsexy.

So what do you do to preserve your sexy??

For me, I wear makeup (simple and tasteful), small stud earrings, fashionable scrubs and a cute beaded lanyard. I also keep up with coloring my hair ( I hate how my hair looks pulled back if I have noticeable roots), clear manicures, colorful pedicures, plus I self tan. I know what you are saying, but I believe you can still look attractive, fresh and professional. Nothing wrong with taking care of yourself.:nurse:

Really feminine underthings remind me that I'm still a woman. Partly why I refused to wear white scrubs.... ;) and mostly why I didn't mind the scrub-sack look.

I've gone commando at work before. Not with the white scrubs of course, but with the dark blue ones........why not? Reminds me that I'm a guy:cool:

I think since I had my baby and went to school to start my nursing education, I have lost my "sexyness" but since I realized that , I made a effort to put myself first once in awhile . Like for example pedicures , buying a new outfit and going out for the night with my hubby. I'm only 21 just had my b-day in January. When I'm at work I have no make -up on and I feel like a frumpy overworked- mom. But when I am off I like to apply make up and feel like a normal human being for a change !!! LOL

great question, interested to see comments

I can't escape it. It just sticks to me. Pity my female co-workers.

lol! so is this you? -->:pumpiron:

My "at work" fashion rules:

1. Scrubs that are comfortable, reasonably pretty, and that FIT WELL...I'm tiny, so I usually buy tops that are gathered or have a tie at the back , so that the top fits my waist a little better than those boxy unisex tops do. It's difficult NOT to feel unattractive when you're completely dwarfed by oversized, unflattering scrubwear.

2. Shoes that are comfy enough to carry me through 12+ hours pounding on a hard tile floor. Trust me, when your feet hurt, there's no getting your sexy back...:)

3. Stud earrings just large enough so that if my hair swings back, I've got a little hint of bling.

4. Clean, sensibly styled hair; a little foundation to cover any breakouts, a little blush, a slick of lipbalm.

5. Whenever appropriate, a smile on my face even if I don't feel like smiling.

6. An attitude that demonstrates confidence, care, and professionalism.

Good luck on your second career, and thanks for this post--it was fun! :)

I blow-dry my hair and put it up in a bouncy, high "cheerleader" ponytail, and wear minimal makeup, but enough to bring out my features. My clinical scrubs are always pressed, and I wear cute socks with them (heart print or something similar). That's how I keep myself feeling like a girl :anpom:

hey you...i have almost an identical regimen to yours.

i twist and clip my hair on top, or pony tail on top of head then tuck tail part around holder.

minimal makeup but 'just enough'.

i iron my darned scrubs:

and wear funky/colorful/fun socks.

i like feeling 'put together' vs looking like i rolled out of bed and into the car.

no, it doesn't make me feel sexy.

but self-respect IS a major component of feeling sexy.

That was SO not a problem for me and my dh. He sported tightie whities in our childbearing years, but all he had to do was unzip his jeans at the other end of the house and I was preggers. It's a scary call when you're fertile at all:wink2:

This subject brings back memories of my mother, who was VERY conservative in most ways, but she decided to go sans underwear back in the early '70s when it was briefly (pun intended) fashionable to do so. Then one day as she was grocery shopping, she squatted down to pick up a box of crackers, and RRRRRRRRRRRRIP!! went her slacks.

No real harm was done, but I think a couple of track records were broken as she fled the store..........
