Does anyone else hate them as much as I do?
That stupid jingle: "You're a nurse. You make a difference."
I mean, could it be more corny and condescending?
Also, why is Johnson & Johnson running a nursing ad anyway? Anyone know?

Complaints abound around here about the negative, whorish image nurses have on tv. Now, y'all are inexplicably complaining about one of the few attempts to shed a positive light on nursing. Yes, that is being desperate to complain about something.
I absolutely agree. Johnson and Johnson has been one of the only companies that has for many years promoted the nursing profession in a positive light and as mentioned by a previous poster, offered scholarships as well. You know, kids who are still in high school and those just entering college have many choices for a profession. Offering up the portrayal of professional nursing as important, worthwhile, and fulfilling, certainly does no harm! Plus it helps remind the public that the doctors aren't the ones there by the bedside saving lives. We are. So more power to the J & J commercials!

I think it's great, actually. They're giving nurses some recognition. They also have a campaign on Youtube in which they have several "Nursing: A Day in the life" videos. I found them to be very interesting. Here is a link to one of them:
I like when she says, "You can't change the world, but you can change the world for one person."

I like all the promotions Johnson and Johnson is doing and really don't find any of it annoying or patronizing. I utilize their free materials also. My office is covered with the free posters I got and I gave all of my LPN students the thank a nurse or nurses save lives magnets, they loved them. I also have a thank a nurse magnet on the back of my truck. I Love being a nurse and love any positive recognition we can get. Just my

Nursing school enrollments are up 50% since start of this campaign...
And therein lies the problem.
We don't need more nursing school enrollments. More students was and is detrimental to the new grads who make it. There is a glutton of new grads out there, and no jobs. Please, please, PLEASE don't encourage more people to just "care" and enroll in nursing school!!
If J&J cared about nurses, then they would be airing commercials about safe nursing staffing.

So true! They encouraged people to go to nursing school - now they need to tackle the issue of why the hospitals aren't hiring them as new grad RN's.....which goes hand in hand w/ safe staffing ratios.

Rise, Dead Thread, from the bowels of obscurity!
I'm resurrecting this thread to point out that I really, really, like the new commercial Johnson & Johnson has out. I can't (at least very quickly) find a link to the commercial, but it's the one with a male nurse (yay! for portraying men) working with a child with cancer. (Double kudos for showing a male in a pediatric specialty).
I really feel that it's a more honest portrayal of a nurse/patient interaction. Much better than the hair stroking and hand holding of their previous commercials.
Kudos to Johnson & Johnson

Do you have a link to it by any chance? I haven't seen the new one yet.

I have not seen it either. Hopefully they still sing "You're a nurse, you make a difference at the end."
