Does anyone else hate them as much as I do?
That stupid jingle: "You're a nurse. You make a difference."
I mean, could it be more corny and condescending?
Also, why is Johnson & Johnson running a nursing ad anyway? Anyone know?

Thanks!
Waaaaay back in the days of dial-up I went by a handle of Fribbles. For some reason I couldn't use that when I signed up for this site, so I went with Fribblet.
Apparently, it's also used as an alternative term for Dingleberry as another poster pointed out.
I could change my name, but I tend to **** people off, so I keep it out of both spite and appropriateness. :)

The commercials reinforce the "angel" myth about nursing. Just once I'd like to see them do a commercial that focused on how intellectually challenging it can be to be a nurse, instead of having them continually go for the "Awww!" moments.
It is irresponsible for J&J to continue to promote nursing when there is a glut of nurses right now. I'm not sure who is benefitting financially from this, but it sure isn't the new grads who can't find jobs.

kris harty i, too, want to thank you for your heartfelt input. we do a fine job on this site of bolstering one another up but it is invaluable to have your objective support.this is a hard job and at times, for a multitude of reasons, impossible. i am happy enough to piggy back on the gratitude you have for the fine nurses you encountered on your journey.health and happiness kris!btw i, too, love the j&j spots, but i love nurse jackie too!! and fribblet, in addition to having an amusing sounding name, you really are a very witty poster! just what does "fribblet" mean?

health and happiness back to you, too!

I like it ...

ocnrn63, yours is a good perspective for me to hear, too. i can see where that would be really frustrating, to say the least. i can only offer a viewpoint from the patient and non-nurse perspective. i think i speak for most non-medical people in saying that most people have very high opinions of nurses. and i would say that the opinion doesn't necessarily stem first and foremost due to any 'awww' moments, but rather for the intellectual knowledge and medical know-how that nurses represent. that said - and for what it's worth - nurses are about the only medical profession who the rest of us view as dependably combining both scientific knowledge and human compassion. that is a combination that patients need, and that we don't always experience in non-nurse professions. we look to you for the best of both worlds.
you bring up a good point about j&j's ads and the timing of the job market. i checked out their web site, and when they started the program in 2002 (i think it was) its purpose was to encourage more nurses to enter the profession to prepare for the mass boomer crowd who will be needing younger people to take care of them in coming years (i include myself in that crowd!). as us boomers age and need extra medical care, it'll be at a time when there'll be fewer people - period - in healthcare, let alone younger people to care for us. i know it's a concern i have. at the same time, i understand that that doesn't help those who need a job to pay bills now. my heart goes out to those who struggle to find a job at this time. there's no easy answers in the equation.

I liked one I saw today. Showed an ER nurse treating someone from some kind of trauma, calling for x-rays. Then later they show him tubed in the ICU and she puts a shamrock key ring in his hand. Can't find the video.
