Things seem to be unfolding rather quickly. Former White House aides and advisors are scrambling to cover themselves as they receive subpoenas to appear and produce documents.

It’s rare when lawyers — as opposed to their clients — take the Fifth Amendment. But Jeffrey Clark, the former Justice Department lawyer who reportedly tried to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 presidential election, is now claiming the privilege against self-incrimination to avoid testifying before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. He has just been joined in that posture by one of Trump’s main outside legal advisers, John Eastman.

The lawsuit comes after the committee signaled it would pursue a criminal contempt referral against Meadows because of his refusal to sit for a deposition in the investigation into the Capitol riot. Meadows alleges that the subpoenas are "overly broad and unduly burdensome," while claiming that the committee "lacks lawful authority to seek and to obtain" the information requested.
And apparently Mark Meadows had a power point outlining how to overturn election results.

The 38-page presentation, entitled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 Jan," is dated one day before the Capitol riot. It's believed to have been submitted by Meadows after he was subpoenaed by the panel in connection with the insurrection.
Only the finest people...
I worked yesterday and don't have cable TV so I did not watch the hearing.
It seems to be one-sided and focused on Trump. From what I'm seeing and hearing from the analysis my takeaways about that day haven't changed.
I've always said that Trump is the root cause of the events. Way before the election he convinced his followers that if he lost it would be the most fraudulent election of all time, and he continued that narrative. After the election a huge number of people believed him. This sowed the seeds of extremists that it was their duty as patriots to defend the country and democracy which lead to the events of January 6th.
Trump's behavior that day was dreadful. I honestly believe that he got an ego boost out of his followers and somehow wanted to remain President.
When Gore lost the election, he did want to make sure the votes were counted correctly and that no stones were left unturned but he conceded. When McCormick in Pennsylvania lost the recount by 951 votes he conceded. This is how democracy works. I don't care about all Trump accomplished what he did to undermine Democracy is unforgivable.
Did Trump organize the events of January 6th to cause a coup. Most likely not. Did some extremist organizations take their cues from Trump saying the election was stolen and then organize a coup attempt? Yes, I believe so.
Many arrests have been made and many people are currently serving jail time.

It seems one sided and focused upon Trump because Trump is the reason that the attack happened. Trump inspired the attack with lies, Trump invited his fans to come to DC, Trump incited them to "fight like hell" and then he let that pot boil over...hoping that he would benefit from the aftermath. Where should it be focused if not on him?

Serious point, most of us don't want to have a corrupt authoritarian who tried to break our republic as president. If the Republicans don't have better candidates than fools or conmen, that's a problem.
8 hours ago, bunnyandthorton said:again, Trump was already impeached for Jan 6th and nothing came about, so either you're being a conspiracy theorist, or you're claiming the investigators were incompetent. and why was the impeachment suddenly dropped against Trump? oh yeah, because Nancy Pelosi turned down 20,000 national guard troops after Trump gave the approval...and you're wrong, it is up to the speaker of the house to handle security at the capital--she is 3rd in line behind the VP, after all.

"News reports indicate that in the days before the attack, House sergeant-at-arms Paul Irving resisted calls from the Capitol Police to bring in the National Guard for extra security at the Capitol because of “optics.” Irving later testified that intelligence reports didn’t show the need for the extra security, not that he rejected it because of optics."
"Capitol security is not solely the responsibility of the House speaker. It is provided by the sergeants-at-arms of the House and Senate, and by the Capitol Police."
"The House sergeant-at-arms reports to the House speaker, or Pelosi at the time of the attack."
1) The impeachment was not dropped. Trump was impeached by the House for the insurrection but the republican senators wouldn't convict him. That's why folks like yourself may be hoping that he'll be reelected now that you've realized that he's not going to be magically reinstated. Trump is the only president to be impeached twice in 4 years.
2) while you are projecting about Pelosi the timeline for Trump's plans to undermine our peaceful transition of power is laid out for those who care to learn about the threat that remains. Pelosi didn't invite those radicalized people to the capitol, Trump did...surely you want some accountability for that.
Did you watch the hearing? What did you think about the information as presented?

That's it? That's the defense...?
Are you telling us that, in your opinion all of this is happening because the general that Trump elevated is a liar?
"Russia hoax", hahaha
In my view that identifies you as someone who believed Barr's letter and didn't feel a need to read the report. Muno already shared the details which prove that it was quite a bit more than a hoax... did you ignore those parts and details to the story?

With high gas prices, inflation and supply chain problems. No the country has gotten worse in those areas while Biden was President.
Not sure what that has to do with the post you quoted “January 6th was not simply a protest, it represented the greatest movement in the history of our country”.

The politifact link doesn't support your argument that Nancy Pelosi is responsible for not calling in the national guard since it distinctly indicates that Pelosi does not run the day to day operations of the Capitol Police but is responsible for maintaining the police hierarchy of command. Did you even read it?

The facts presented last night proved that Trump made no immediate efforts to prevent or contain the attempted coup. Thompson claims that testimony will be made that Trump had contact with the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys before the events occurred. I am still not convinced that Trump accomplished anything positive for our country, but if he did, it was all undone by the damage he unleashed during the pandemic which has caused unimaginable losses; financial, social, and political.

“U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly on Tuesday rejected defense attorneys' arguments that the four men — Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl and Charles Donohoe — are charged with conduct that is protected by the First Amendment right to free speech.”
Another 15 seconds. Is that sufficient?
You're claim was that Judge Kelly was the one who denied bail to Rehl. That is incorrect as I understand. Your article above has nothing to do with that aspect of his case.
TMB tried to help you out, but the article that he linked to was about a different defendant.

And yet you've provided nothing but words... you didn't even make an effort to do anything except throw shade. What an unhelpful discussion strategy.
