I am working on my pre-reqs for my BSN in Houston. I have everything pretty much done except my A&Ps and Micro. I haven't taken a regular Biology class and it isn't required for the degree. I was just curious if I would be okay jumping into A&P or if I needed to take a regular Biology first? Any advice would be appreciated!

Some A&P courses at some schools require it, others don't. You need to check the prereqs for the A&P course at your school, as well as the nursing program prereqs. In any case, it certainly would not hurt to take this class first.

All I had was an Introduction to BIO class, but found that It didn't help with Anatomy and I passed the class with an A.

As others have said, it depends on your school. I found it helpful for A&P because it provided a deeper understanding of things like metabolism and homeostasis as functions not only of systems or the organism as a whole but at the cellular level.

I am in a CC in Houston and they do not require Bio as a pre-req to A&P. You will have to check with whatever school you are taking the class at though and see if they require it. You can usually find out in their course catalogue if you do or not. Under the A&P classes it should list the re-reqs.
I have checked and no one requires that I take the regular bio. I was just curious of those who have taken it if they would recommend it or did they just take A&P and do just fine? I'm basically trying to see if I need to take an extra course just as a help out for A&P because I was just planning on taking A&P with no biology.

I think they are changing the pre-req's next year. I just took micro and it has helped a lot. There is so much to learn and quickly, having some of the micro knowledge before A&P has made a difference to me.

I took Bio1010 (biology for science majors) prior to taking A&P1 and I'm soooo glad I did! It wasn't required but it gave me such a great foundation for the first part of A&P. I noticed others in the class have struggled with diffusion, active transport, enzymes, molecular structure, etc. and I already have that knowledge from my biology last term. If you have the extra term to devote to biology, I highly recommend it. The extra time is paying off (I currently have a 100% A in A&P 1)

if you have the time, i would recommend it. I didnt do it on purpose, but i cant imagine that it would not be helpful. I took a whole year of general Bio, then micro, then A+P --the whole years worth--in 10 weeks summer course. If memory serves, i think I earned an A- and a B+....Frankly i think this is where more than a few students have problems and if you can avoid that, why not?
If you have the opportunity to take A&P from the same instructor as your Bio class, you will have an advantage in more ways than one. Definitely recommend it.
AGREED!

Check the school you want to take the A&P. It should tell what the pre-reqs are. I know for all the State Uni's and Colleges here, Bio is a required pre-req for A&P
