Is there a possiblity of a drug test on CNA first day orientation

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Updated:   Published

as the title says, please just need an answer. Had interview at a local nursing home on Thursday, got called today for orientation tomorrow, all I know it's gonna be 9 hours.

I'm really happy that I got the job by my first interview and I have no experience in healthcare field. It's just that I messed up and need a day or two to pass the test.

If high possibility tomorrow, I'm thinking of not going so I don't risk losing my license.

any help is appreciated, I know it's my fault.

ooh good luck! and I know drug tests are not always scheduled, but if they are calling you INTO work, IDK if they would do it right away?

There wont be one. I got physical on friday. Then I start after, I'm already on the schedule for 14 days in may.

At my clincals they said they dont test, but the facility was pretty bad. The facility I got hired at is pretty good, and a lot better than my clinicals so I'm surprised that they dont test

anyway ima stay clean for now, never know

Drugs are bad mm'kay

I hope you are going to stop completely. I seriously wouldn't want to be the resident that is under your care if you happen to have a drug relapse. Its pretty scary being vulnerable to a drug-addicted caretaker. This is people's lives you're handling and its mighty irresponsibility, border-line criminal, to

risk someone's life for the sake of a little "high."

I clearly have said, I would never go into work high. I want to take care of the residents the best way possible.

I am not addicted to any drug, never been. Not like im gonna relapse on herion or something.

Only thing I do is smoke weed, and I happened to try adderall to study last week.

This is going far, I wouldn't even like to work with someone high on anything in a nursing home, it is irressponsible.

Now if I wanna smoke weed in my free time since I dont even drink any alcohol, idk why you would have a problem with that.

The problem is that you have an attitude that substances are the answer when life gets difficult. That attitude is deeply ingrained and hard to break out of, especially if you're in denial that you have it. When work gets stressful, you'll probably go with what is most familiar, and that will be substances as the solution. That's a problem, because people think they can control it, but rarely actually do.

Why would we have a problem with pot use in your free time? It's illegal and against the rules of your profession according to the BON. Also, having met several pot smokers in my time, it does nothing admirable to intellectual capacity, attitude or motivation to achieve. It also stinks like a burning trash dump.

And you're still spending a lot of energy justifying your substance use.

You know what, you are right. Career is more important. I'm giving it up.

It is illegal. Even in states where it is legal nurses are still being reported to the BON for addiction and their license IF approved is placed on restriction. The path to reinstatement is a long and expensive one.

If you want to work in healthcare there are things you are going to have to give up. Pot being one of them.

Go to the Nurses with criminal history or addictions forum. Even one DUI after a party and your goose it cooked.

The problem with that, is that it's illegal in most places, and is prohibited by the BON, and most/all employers. Remember that most drug screens are qualitative, not quantitative, so as long as the metabolites are present, it will be presumptive of being under the influence, whether one is actually high or not.

They should tell you in advance. If you're scheduled for orientation, and they haven't mentioned it you may not have to test.

In my experience, 2 out of my 4 CNA jobs tested me.

All tested before scheduling for orientation.

HTH!

How about the fact that it's still illegal (federal)?

My guess it will only be a matter of time till we see a thread from you saying you got caught.
