Is there a possiblity of a drug test on CNA first day orientation

Updated:   Published

as the title says, please just need an answer. Had interview at a local nursing home on Thursday, got called today for orientation tomorrow, all I know it's gonna be 9 hours.

I'm really happy that I got the job by my first interview and I have no experience in healthcare field. It's just that I messed up and need a day or two to pass the test.

If high possibility tomorrow, I'm thinking of not going so I don't risk losing my license.

any help is appreciated, I know it's my fault.

Have you completed a background check or anything besides the interview?

Show up for orientation and discover your schedule for the other requirements.

Go home 'sick' if necessary.

You are right, you should have known better.

She took copies of SS card, DL, CPR, and CNA license on interview

I'm guessing thats the background check

after that got the call today

Strong possibility of drug screen.

Okay, I really wanna go tomorrow. Question is, if I did fail the drug test, would I lose my license right away or just not get the job?

Potentially both. Your job would probably be rescinded and then if they so chose they could report you to the board of nursing. If they decided to report you an investigation would be done before your license would be taken away

They also have the right to suspend your CNA while completing the investigation.

Do you suggest that I should just not show up tomorrow?

I could possibly be clean the day after orientation if I don't get tested.

what I took stays in system for 1-3 days, and was my first time taking it.

I quit smoking a month ago, and been clean for 2 weeks. Trying that study focus messed me up.

Look, if you're going to spend this much time and effort excusing/justifying your drug use and trying to figure out how to game the drug tests.....perhaps nursing is not the profession for you.

You could buy an over the counter drug screen for home use. Most pharmacies sell them.

But if you are serious about a career in health care you can not be using any illegal substances, not even occasionally. Most employers have the right to do random drug screens, especially if they have reason to suspect

Im here worried because this what I want to do. Im not justifying it either, I made a mistake and I admit it. If I wanted to game the drug test then I would have went to a drug forum, and looked at ways to fake the test.

Im going to attend the orientation tomorrow.

I am forever confused by these posts. I am no angel (in the past) and I admit it.....however once I committed on this path...I grew a halo.

If you stopped smoking 1 month ago why is it you are only clean for 2 weeks? If this indicates you might have a bigger issue seek help...if it is your friends...change friends.

Pray this goes by without a drug screen and never make this "mistake" again.

I suspect the OP has done more than one drug, that's why they are "clean for a month" and "will be clean in 2 days." Multiple drugs, probably.

And OP, it's a CNA certification, not a license. Two different things ;) Best of luck to you. If you are serious about a career in healthcare, drop any illegal drugs. It's not worth it in the long run. Drugs and friends don't pay your bills, a steady job does ?
