I currently have a B.S. in Public Health with a minor in Biology. I will be starting nursing school in january 2011, its an ADN program.
Is it possible to go for an MSN/DNP in NP with an ADN since I have a B.S. already? Or do I have to go through the general route of ADN-->BSN-->MSN/DNP?
Thanks in advance,
Eddie

There's a school here that offers a straight from any kind of generic Bachelor's to a MSN. Check around, ADN/BSN might be a huge waste of time for you.

Yeah, as the above poster stated, you are prolly better off scratching the ADN idea and finding a Direct Entry Masters program to attend. You might waste another 6 months or year doing that, but it will still be less time consuming in the end! There are many DE masters programs for non-nursing bachelor prepared students, and they are usually less than a year and a half! Look around, you might decide to forget the ADN program. Good luck!

Yes. That's what I'm planning on doing.
I know University of Illinois at Chicago has that option.

But what if the overall GPA is not good enough for entry into a direct MSN?

There are schools here that offer ADN to MSN programs - with at least 1 year working RN experience. No BSN required. You might want to check if your state has schools that offer such a program.

I, too, have a BS in Public Health! I went into an accelerated bachelor's program - 14 months.

Woah Woah Woah!!! Whatever you do, do not give up your spot. Do you know how many people would love to have your seat in ANY program?
I received my Bachelor's in Public Health in June and started in an ADN program in August. Yes I was applying to the Entry Level MSN programs but the ADN accepted me first. At first I was iffy about taking the position but now I am so grateful that I went that route.
ADN programs give their students the BEST experience in clincal. No joke. While we are at our rotations, not just the RNS but also students from other BSN programs tell us that we get more time and experience for clinicals. Maybe it just depends on the school, but from where I stand I think I went the right route. Plus since I have my Public Health degree I can just contest those courses for when I go for my BSN. Which means it'll take less time than for those who do not have a degree in that field.
Think wisely about giving up your seat.
