Thank you everyone for your advice. Yes, I love everyone I work with but I really wanted ER or ICU as a new grad. I like action, adrenaline, and being on my toes. But I also like not being stressed out too much and starting my life. I woke up this morning and asked myself, "Why did you work so hard to get into nursing school? Why do you want to be a nurse?" My answer, "To be a great nurse!" Doesn't matter where I'm at, every individual deserves a good nurse. Soooo I accepted the job today My manager and co-workers got really excited and can't wait for me to become working beside them and not their subordinate lol. My long term goals... continue my education and get my Masters. I could always move on to another unit, but as of now I must finish school, pass nclex and start my career... and my life. Thank you all once again. I truly appreciate your wonderful advice.

Thank you all for your advice. My fiance feels the same way as you all. I really do love all my co-workers and my manager is so sweet. I'm just afraid ill lose all my skills if I stay there and not start off in med-surg or something along those lines. Plus wouldn't it be wrong to start there then move on? I'm sorry I'm not trying to sound like a spoiled brat, I just want to make the right decision.

Hello all!I am currently a can on an OB floor and my manager offered me a job as an RN after I grad in June. Here's the problem, I believe I should gain experience on a tele floor or ICU or anywhere else first. Secondly, I've spoken to other managers on those units and say said they can't hire me until I pass boards. (I grad June 6th and the new grad program is June 16th). When will I have time to take nclex? My manager will hire me and let me start training and I can take nclex after a few weeks.I feel like beggers can't be choosers (I need a job) but at the same time, I really want to gain experience before working post partum. Advice pleasse! Thank you.

Woah Woah Woah!!! Whatever you do, do not give up your spot. Do you know how many people would love to have your seat in ANY program? I received my Bachelor's in Public Health in June and started in an ADN program in August. Yes I was applying to the Entry Level MSN programs but the ADN accepted me first. At first I was iffy about taking the position but now I am so grateful that I went that route. ADN programs give their students the BEST experience in clincal. No joke. While we are at our rotations, not just the RNS but also students from other BSN programs tell us that we get more time and experience for clinicals. Maybe it just depends on the school, but from where I stand I think I went the right route. Plus since I have my Public Health degree I can just contest those courses for when I go for my BSN. Which means it'll take less time than for those who do not have a degree in that field. Think wisely about giving up your seat.

Actually some ADN programs DO have physical assessment. I am in my first semester of an ADN program and while we are at clinical, you better believe we do physical assessments along with basic care. Care plans or plan of care are long and tiring but you do what you have to do. I believe you can do a good care plan without doing a physical assessment but its just hard because you didn't do it yourself or actually see how your patient improves or sadly, decline. Every school is different. But all are hard.

Thank you everyone for your help. I was starting to brainstorm last night as to what to write. I had so many ideas and was excited to start writing. I decided to check my email and saw that I had received an email from RCC nursing. I got accepted into their program for this fall! At first I was torn because I really want to do the EL-MSN program but who is crazy enough to pass up this chance?!? So it looks like I do not have to write a personal statement... for now. I would like to continue on to my Masters someday. Thank you again! Maybe you'll see me posting "Help! need advice on Clinical!" Lol

Hello everyone, I am currently in the process of writing my personal statement for Cal Baptist's EL-MSN program. I have my BS in Public Health but have always wanted to be a Nurse. I know that I need to include the school's mission statement and philosophy statement so they see that I am a good match for their program. CBU requires the Comprehensive essay to includes: Purpose for entering the program Significant events and influences that have affected your approach to life Long-term professional goals Reasons for choosing to study at CBU I have a few ideas in mind but can't narrow them down. How do you know what your long-term professional goals would be if you haven't been exposed to every unit? I feel stuck. Any help would be beneficial. Thank you in advance!

OMG $2,000?!? That's alot more than I thought Thank you for the heads up! Man I feel bad for the people who can't come up with the money. That's so sad. I'm sure it's really hard, but it'll be worth it in the end. I've been trying to get in a program forever, so i'll do whatever it takes. Congrats on your baby! That's exciting! Exactly! From back ground checks to immunizations along with other random stuff. He said to save money for all of that. Are you going to the meeting on June 15th? Did you get to take a few quarters at RCC or you never began the program? I'm actually really scared but excited at the same time. I took all my pre-reqs at RCC then re-took A&P at CSUSB. RCC's classes were so much harder! You'd think it would've been opposite. As for Valley, that's awesome by how much you moved up! My friend moved up the list fast as well and starts this fall... Lucky!

Congrats! My email said the same about being at the top of the list but when I went and spoke with him, he said they all say the same and that I am actually in the middle. Totally bummed me out I hope you have a better chance. Your number is pretty close at Valley too so thats good news! My number is far away. Ugh!

What is the Wia program?

hello all, this is my first post but i've looked around on this site many times before joining. i have found it to be very helpful so thank you. so i have applied to 7 nursing schools for this fall 2010. on a waitlist for valley, and denied at two other schools (i didn't know that cod doesn't accept you if you repeated a science class). i just received my alternate/standy email yesterday from rcc. i am really excited about it but also really nervous about it. i know it is a very good school, but very hard as well which is ok because i want to be a great nurse. my question is... what are the odds that i will actually get to be in the program if i am on the alternate list? i hope i get in, it's all i've ever wanted to do. thank you!
