Nursing School Rejection Letters
For those of you that have received rejection letters for your nursing program, I have a question. Does your school give you a reason? The two schools I applied for is based on a point system. One of the schools let me know exactly what point range got into the program, how many applicants, and the range of points all together that applied. The other school did not tell me anything. They only said that the maximum enrollment for that semester has been filled. I have called this school to find out the points they took in, but they don't return my call. I have been in this school's nursing program before, but was dismissed because I failed two of my classes. This was two years ago. I was also told by them that I was eligible to come back. Its weird because the first time I managed to get in the program with C's. Now that i've retaken those classes and gotten A's, I can't get back in. Does your schools give reasons?

Sexual advances from a resident
I have been caring for this man for about a week now. He has been very nice to me and would occasionally flirt, but I didn't think anything of it. The other day I was finishing up doing perineal care on him and he asked me for a hug. I told him no, and he then said that the door was closed and nobody would know. That remark made me feel uncomfortable. As I was leaving his room, he mentioned something about doing me a favor. This man is in his right mind which made me uncomfortable. Should I let my DON know about this? Should I suggest letting another CNA care for this man?

What grosses you out?
Definately oral care. The spitting into the emesis basin with food particles kills me. I can think about it and gag. Fingernail care is bad, too. I'll take anything else.

LPN Curriculum
I'm trying to understand what courses an LPN has to take to be an RN. I used to be in RN school and was dismissed from the program half way through it. I was not given the opportunity to challenge the NCLEX-PN. I did not get to take Mental Health or Peds, which was in the third semester. Does LPNs have to take those courses in an LPN program? I'm basically wanting to know the LPN curriculum verses the RN.

Was I right?
The CNAs where I work are so bossy. I don't know what it is.

New CNA and need encouragement
I have been working part time in a LTC facility for a couple of weeks. This is my first CNA job. I have to care for 6-8 residents on my shift. This job is extremely hard for me. I'm constantly drinking because I get so thirsty in there. We not only have to do our job as a CNA, but have to help serve breakfast and lunch like a waitress. I am still so slow at getting my residents dressed and ready, and it is very hard. Then I have to get vitals, and I can't even find equipment that works so I can. I love the job, but the stress is awful. The other CNAs get mad at me and try to boss me around. They have to realize that I'm new to this. Does speed get better with time?

starting LPN program in Aug 2011..anyone else?
I'm seriously thinking about applying for the LPN program for this fall. I was in the ADN program back in 2009 but didn't make it. Congradulations to you all.

Nursing student CNAs passing meds in ALF
I have always thought that passing meds was only in the scope of practice for nurses. I've been seeing a lot of threads on med techs, and just learned that CNAs with special training can pass meds in ALFs. I was just wondering about the CNAs that are in nursing school that has taken pharmacology, like myself. I've also given meds in my clinicals. Just wondering if pharmacology would be equivilent to the training they give these CNAs to pass meds. Just wondering.

I'm a CNA just because I want experience
Good luck to you! You will do fine. I'm a little nervous about my first day, too. But I know it will all be worth it in the end.

Do you all think med aides are bad idea?
I'm a CNA and I had two semesters of Nursing School. I took pharmacology and administered meds (parental and oral) in clinicals. I wonder if that would be training enough for me to be a med aide? Just wondering...

I'm a CNA just because I want experience
Hey guys! I've never posted anything on the CNA board-this is my first time. I am a former nursing student that didn't quite make it through the obstacles of nursing school. I think a lot of my problem was lack of confidence in myself. After getting dismissed from my nursing program, i still wanted to pursue my dream of being a nurse. I decided to get my CNA license and go to work. I took the test, and now I am a CNA :w00t:...and a proud one at that. I had a lot of respect for CNAs in nursing school. They taught me a lot in my clinicals. Ok long story short...I recently landed a part time job in an assisted living facility. By the time I pay for childcare, I will have nothing left. So I'm pretty much working for nothing. But I am doing this to get some experience under my belt along with getting used to messing with patients. Not only that, but it gives me something to do. I'm thankful that I can do this because my husband has a good paying job, otherwise I couldn't do it. So CNAs...are you doing it to pay the bills or just because you love the job? Anyone here doing this for the benefit to further your career?

Need some advice...fast
I have an interview at the hospital tomorrow for a PCA position. The problem is the roads around here are a sheet of ice. This is the south, so we don't get out much in this kind of weather. So my question is...should I try to make it for this interview since I would have to be there regardless of weather if it were my job, or just call to see if I can reschedule? Just wondering....

Physical Assessment and Care plans
Can you do a good careplan without taking a physical assessment class? At our school, which is an ADN program, we don't take a physical assessment class until third semester. We done careplans in second semester and used data from the patient's chart and vital signs that we done. I just always felt like in order to do a careplan the correct way, we needed to do the assessing. What's your thoughts?
