Is this academic dishonesty?

Published

a friend of mine who is already in the ADN program gave me a copy of her reading schedule that outlines what will be covered each week and the readings that will be required. No assignments are listed only a reading schedule and the topics covered. Is this academic dishonesty since I will be getting a head start on the readings that are required?

No it is not academic dishonesty. Congrats on taking the initiative to get ahead on your reading as there is alot of reading in nursing school.

our outline for pharmacology and health assesment looks like this:

read chapters 1-80

 :crying2: :lol2: :uhoh3:

Nope, not dishonest. Everyone else has access to the same book, right? It isn't like you were given a copy of the test. Even if they gave you their old notes, so what? It isn't like you were handed the question bank for the test or anything. Everyone else has access to the book/or should have access, would they get into trouble for reading the book before class starts?? NO! So don't sweat it. It is the same stuff everyone else has.

Our college releases the entire reading schedule rior to the start of each semester in supplementals we have to purchase. It is entirley up to the student if they wish to buy it in advance or wait till the start of the semester

Are you serious!? Man- some people need to get a life. I'm an advocate for "Do your own work", but that's a little ridiculous.

To the OP- I do NOT see this as dishonest in any way.

Absolutely serious. It was absurd.

I had a student report me for cheating before. A girl in a class behind me had asked me on myfacebook how peds was. She was just starting it. I said it was like a mini med surg but more emphasis on child developmental age while giving care. So I told her to make sure she understands the developmental stages. This was same info we were told day one for the class and what was on school website. Yet somehow I was reported by some shady girl in my class that I was openly helping students cheat. Well I fought it, I wasn't going to go down for that since I didn't do anything wrong.

Geez what gall! Ridiculous. To the OP I'd say no way. Good for you getting ahead :)

Yes, this is called initiative, not cheating! It will get you very far in life. :)

I doubt it. I also think it is a good idea to get a head start, especially with the fundamentals. Buy a used textbook, best to get one that your future school uses. Get familiar with the basics. Wouldn't hurt to find out what the math/dosage/calculation requirements are and learn about those, or become familiar with medical terminology. Don't get too carried away, because you don't know exactly what your school will require when you start. Sometimes too much too soon can be confusing.

I already have all of my books for next semester and I have started on my dosage calc (I am taking it this summer)

I didn't really think it was dishonest, but like I said before, the student who gave me the course outline made a big deal about keeping it to myself. Yes I realize that I have posted it on the internet, but no one here knows me nor her so no harm no foul.

I don't plan on getting too carried away I just want to get a head start so that I am not super overwhelmed the first few weeks.

I asked a current student about uniform requirements and stuff - to get a start on sales lol - he sends me multitudes of class lecture notes and slides...***** Overly helpful i suppose, but mostly nonsensical to me since I am not actually in the program yet and they have little to no significance to me right now :)

He might have just been excited for you. I tend to get really passionate talking about nursing and love talking with pre-nursing students. I am making a post right now that could probably be broken into chapters for the future graduates, but I am so eager to share with them stuff I learned that could help them.
