Sunday, a running back (Kevin Everett, Buffalo Bills) was seriously injured in a helmet to helmet tackle. Players said that he did not move following the hit. He has had surgery, fixated the break, and now they wait to discover what the final outcome is. The injury is described as "catastrophic." If he were my son, I would have him on a plane to China for stem cell implants, ASAP. What say you?

Please don't laugh at this question (student here)..but..but China allows stell cell implants? I'm not too up to speed in the stem cell research etc.
If it were my son/daughter, and there were a place that would give my child a chance to walk again, or at the very least get some function back in arms/legs, I'd be hopping that plane with them faster than you can say Cash or Charge.
My heart sunk when I heard about the player. Prayers go out to him and his family.

They don't even know yet the extent of the injuries. He is in an induced coma, until the swelling goes down.

I live in western NY and am a huge Buffalo bills fan. The news conference last evening painted a very grim outlook for our player. His chances are ever walking again are somewhere between 5-10%. So I am hoping I am not out of line here, but I am asking all my commrades here to pray for him and his family. Thanks.

I saw it and was very saddened by the news.
Sanctuary, I'm with you.
After prayer and surgery, he would have been on to China for stem cell treatment.

I am a Bills fan as well. And am praying for this young man, who is a graduate of the University of Miami.
I am also a former case manager and have dealt with spinal cord injures. He suffered a displaced fracture at C1-2 or 2-3 level. His spinal cord was apparently not completely severed but was displaced at best. He underwent surgery Sunday evening to stabilize the fracture and was put into a medical induced coma post surgery. The possibility of a positive outcome is approximately 5 to 10%. In all likelihood, he will be an incomplete quad. At this point, a stem cell insert would have an unknown effect on his injury. Research is being done but no one has successfully undergone such a procedure. Even if he does not suffer any permanent damage, his playing career is basically over. Most people do not know that such injures occur more frequently in sports events then it is realized.

Thanks for the link.
While undergoing stem cell treatment, patients may also receive physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, drugs, and electrical stimulation. The average price tag: $17,000, plus airfare.
Amazin', huh? $17,000 won't cover an uncomplicated, routine hospital stay here.

I saw a story on the news (I think it was NBC) last week on China's use of stem cells. So far I haven't seem any statistics to show what the outcome/results actually are but the results for the family that they interviewed didn't seem that great to me. I think more research and study is needed before we can hope for miraculous results from their program.

Hell, we can't even trust our toys to be safe coming from China. I don't know if I could trust China to provide a safe stem cell transplant. Seriously.
