Indiana State University BSN students

Published

Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!

wow, Thanks. I think 4 semesters sound right since I have ALL of the pre-requistes done already. I was going to apply to a 4 year college in my area but due to my GPA (3.33 which is not bad. Here you will need a 3.8 or more) and it is also so impacted I would have to wait.

What state are you in? How was the experience? Was it hard to find a hospital that would accept you as a trainee?

Thanks

I found one hospital that I've done all of mine in so far. ISU just got a contract with Johns Hopkins Hospital so I'm really hoping to do Med-surg III (high acuity) there so we'll see. I'm in Maryland and doing mine at Suburban Hospital which has been awesome but I do want to try JHH if I can! :yeah:

Hello, I'm new to this thread and have been looking through the posts and couldn't find this information (so sorry if it has been posted), but what is ISU's program like as per the workload? Those of you in the program, have you been able to work? I ask because I am currently doing an LPN->ADRN program and the homework load has been so heavy that most of the students have had to stop working to be able to keep up on the quizzes/assignments/papers plus the fact that it is going to take me 2 years to get my RN I was thinking I might look at a BSN program. I am curious how the ISU program compares. Thank you! =)

Hi,

My name is Brenda and I have been an LPN for 25 years. I work in a small rural hospital. I also am certified in Gastroenterology (CGN). I work primarily in Endoscopy procedures now but have worked Med-Surg nursing for 15 years.

I have always wanted to get my college degree. ISU is perfect for me. I am not in a hurry and am not doing this for the money (altho a raise will be nice).

I started 2 years ago with no credits. I have done the following:

A&P, Micro, Pathophys,Eng. Comp, Intro to Soc, Intro to Psych, Lifespan Dev. Psych,Gerontology,Inf. Sys./Computer App and will be testing out of American History 1 next week.

My plan is to get all other non-nursing classes done so when I enroll in ISU, I will have Phase 2 and just nursing classes left.

This is a great way for us to communicate so lets use this!

Sincerely, Brenda

Have the taken the entrance exam (TEAS) yet. and what is the score needed.

Ok. So I don't quite fit into this thread, but I'm a grad student at ISU. If anybody is looking for someone to talk to I'm here!

did you take the bsn program at ISU. how was it, was it hard to find clinicals like I've been reading about. and how was the TEAS exam. these are the main two programs that scares me , cause I don't like math and it sure doesn't like me

Hi,

My time estimate was for what I think it will take me working full-time!

If you are not working, it can be done much quicker =)

Sorry for the confusion!

Hi,

No I have not taken the TEAS test yet.

Next semester I will only be taking 2 classes and will apply to ISU and take my TEAS test as well. From what I understand, it is fairly easy?

Hi everyone!

I am in school right now and hope to start my LPN clinicals soon. I do have a few questions for some of you in the ISU program because I have not found a way to get information from them unless you are already licensed. I will probably have a few spots open where I could take some extra courses and would love to take them before I begin clinicals to get them out from under me. Can anyone tell me what the prerequs are before you can start the program or send me a copy of the programs from ISU? I have looked all through this thread and have found all the information very good and exciting for me as this is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks everyone for taking the time to post on here so people like me can get information from people actually in the program!:loveya:

Thank you so much!!!! Somehow I missed that post. I am so excited to be starting in school and even more excited to know that my BSN isn't going to be as difficult as I thought to get. Thanks again!!

Hi everyone,

For all of you still starting out on the pre-req, Here's what I know on sociology -

All and all an easy one, if you can get the TCN guide it is very good and more than enough to pass. Also useful are the 20 practice tests on www.extremeintellect.com (under free online practice tests), and someones vocab list on www.flashcardexchange.com/flashcards/list/371023. , spark chart/notes would work fine. I think I could have passed with just these free items and so many more on the internet.

This test would be good to do while still in LVN school (also the human growth and devel ,and intro to psych)

Chaxanmom - the time frame you listed for the RN part, is that the fastest it can be done? Also I believe you listed somewhere on here what tests I need to make sure are upper level. I've read all the posts twice and still can't find that list - its mind numbing. I'm getting down to the statistic , diversity, religion, ethics. Does anyone know how to get Freshman Comp graded - TCN tells you to have that taken before enrolling in ISU but clep wants you enrolled in ISU so the exam can be sent to them for grading, also anyone know if you need to take the essay portion of technical writing ? Thanks

So I have another question. I'm taking the LPN course at a local community college and to get my license through the college I have to take human Growth & Development and I'm taking BIO 231 right now. Do these courses transfer over tho ISU or do I have to try to CLEP out of them? Also, even though I'm not licensed yet will they tell me what I need to do if I call them at ISU? Everything I've seen says you have to be licensed to request info. Thanks again everyone!
