traffic ticket over 300
In CA your arrest & convictons form states that you MUST report traffic violations over 500, so if it comes to more than 500 you will need to tell the board before you have the license issued. Just go to their website type in convictions in the search and look at frequently asked questions. Call them or email them.

Quitting Medschool to go to Nursing
Where you are at is common in this stage of med school-feeling overwhemed and inadequate. I would encourage you to reach out to your advisor, dean and professors at your school. What are they telling you about your chances of making it through? Make an appointment with each of them, lay it out to them, listen to their advise. Your parents will be upset but start sharing with them now, let them all know about your troubles, if you do decide to walk away for a break -it will lessen the shock. Remember, they are your parents, parents get over things in the end will probably support you no matter what.

Will I get a job if I graduate from Kaplan College?
Hi - I don't know the specifics of Kaplan College but as long as the RN we hire has a license we don't ask where they went to school. But back to your questions - I work for a vocational school and we must by federal and state standards give you information as to how our grads are doing - ask for and expect to receive from Kaplan: number of students that started the RN course, number that dropped out voluntary and involuntary, final number that graduated and then how many had a job in the field within 90 days of graduation and held that job for at least 90 days. Most schools will also give you info about what the starting wages were. Ask for your info in writing, Kaplan should freely give it to you. This is info that is kept and shared in order to manitain their federal financial aid. Good Luck

Excelsior College General Education Exams
I use Instacert. They are wonderful, they cost 20 a month and have flashcard that you study from, but the best part is that you get access to the specific exam seciton of the discussion forum, where the members leave comments after taking each exam,it is so worth the money. As to study materials, go to the specific exam sheets for each test, be it a clep, dsst, or excelsior, at the end of the sheet it will list books you can use to study by -if it is an excelsior exam I just go over to the excelsior bookstore and get the reguired textbook name and author. I will go to albris books and find the textbook maybe one edition back (if they currently use edition 6 I will get edition 5) I've never paid more than $2 for them. Using instacert and the general ed exams, cleps I'm going to have tested out of a full 4 year degree by the end of the year,I started with no college credit, this is very doable.

Credit checking for a job?..im in trouble :(
Where I work we have everyone sign the "credit report needed form" it sounds bad but we only have sent to us the part that shows your previous addresses, employers and any criminal record (they charge for each part and the money amounts are just not that important to us to pay more for it). Also the three credit bureaus will allow you to place a "personal statement" at the beginning of your report. Keep it short and simple and explain that is was a loss due to fire/insurance issues but prior to that you had great credit. Then I wouldn't mention it at the interview ( just in case they are like us and don't look at that part, so you don't give away any info you don't have to). If they get the money part of the report they will see your side first thing.

Tips for getting a preceptor for wound care certification
This is my job, setting up preceptors for a vocational nursing school. First I would call the clinic and get the office managers name, then prepare your letter , attached your documents and hand carry it to the clinic. Do not expect to get an interview on the spot, they will probably tell you the office manager is busy. Don't be too pushy, just leave your package for her to look over. Give it a couple of days and if you don't hear anything, call her back and see if you can make an appointment to see her. If you get a no, then find out if you can try back later, maybe a couple months. Also if I get a straight no from an office manager, then I'll find out the name of the nurse or the doctor and mail or fax directly to them. If you use a LTC facility make the appointment with the DON or administrator. Do not focus on your lack of experience, I wouldn't even talk about it, remember students get these preceptors everyday. Just keep the interview short (these are busy people) and talk about your love of this speciality (this is obviously something you will have in common with them) Tell them your dream. Never offer payment on the first letter. Most will help you out no problem, just a nice gift basket at the end of the preceptorship. Then there are the ones who will openly ask for something, but they are the exception. Carry your own liability insurance and let the facility know that you do have your own insurance. Good luck

does your school have a written policy on affairs?
I'm not an educator . I am a director of student services who has been given a problem. I have a student who has had a relationship with the administrator. She now complains that he had undue influence on her position in the program and she felt pressure from him (they lived togethr for awhile). The head of the school tells me that I can not regulate what he does after school hours (I wanted to make a requirement, no contact with students outside class) as this is his private time and of course all the statements, emails and text messages he sent to her he says are after school hours. This no policy about private after school time seems wrong. Does your school have a written policy on contact between, administration, teacher and student? I'm begining to feel like my school is behind a half century in sexual hassasment rules. Thanks

CLEP Preps or TCN Preps?
Ok, I think you are speaking of ISU due to the 4 study guides, they are hard to find. My plan is if I can't get the 3 I still need on ebay by the time I get there, then I'll just buy only those from TCN. As to the study materials I use a combo of all of them. TCN are good, check out local book stores for REA Clep books, instacert.com is great, also go to the Excelsior site look at the online course for that test it will have a link to the bookstore and the recommended textbook. Look for a cheap one on amazon even if its a little older. Try the instacert.com disscussion forum-great people with lots of ideas and resourses for testing out. Good luck

Indiana State University BSN students
Hi everyone, For all of you still starting out on the pre-req, Here's what I know on sociology - All and all an easy one, if you can get the TCN guide it is very good and more than enough to pass. Also useful are the 20 practice tests on www.extremeintellect.com (under free online practice tests), and someones vocab list on www.flashcardexchange.com/flashcards/list/371023. , spark chart/notes would work fine. I think I could have passed with just these free items and so many more on the internet. This test would be good to do while still in LVN school (also the human growth and devel ,and intro to psych) Chaxanmom - the time frame you listed for the RN part, is that the fastest it can be done? Also I believe you listed somewhere on here what tests I need to make sure are upper level. I've read all the posts twice and still can't find that list - its mind numbing. I'm getting down to the statistic , diversity, religion, ethics. Does anyone know how to get Freshman Comp graded - TCN tells you to have that taken before enrolling in ISU but clep wants you enrolled in ISU so the exam can be sent to them for grading, also anyone know if you need to take the essay portion of technical writing ? Thanks

Unfriendly Nurses.....
Hi Dianne, I have no experience wih traveling being a new nurse myself but I wanted to tell you that we watched travelers come and go in our clinical site . I got to see from a unique position , on the inside but not one of them. The permanent nurses treated the travelers terribly, so much so they wouldnt even sit at the station to chart. They pretended like the permanents were all the best of friends, but after the traveler left and there was no one to find fault with, they spent all their time smiling to each others faces and talking behind their friends back. It probably has nothing to do with you just toxic people.

10 months vs 3.5 years??????
OH Honey be very careful of that one. Many people complain of being ripped off by vocational schools selling ultrasound tech. There is a hoop hole in the registering for ARDMS that states you can apply for the exam if you work for 12 months as a tech "learn as a you go" so vocational schools will have a UT class and then tell you to work for a year and apply for the license....problem is ...no one will hire you. Look at the web sites of your local hospitals - are they asking for the ARDMS as a requirement? You need to really do you homework on this one. You need an approved CAAHEP school, call ARDMS , ask questions. Its a great career and pays fantastic, just do a little work beforehand. Good Luck

Question about CLEP and College Network
BA.LVN I'm not in the ISU program yet, sill battling my way there. There are a couple girls on here that are enrolled in the RN part without TCN but I believe they did purchase the 4 test out modules through TCN as they are hard to obtain on ebay. I first started testing out the general eds when I noticed that my friends who signed up with TCN had no problems getting their old clep, dantes and excelisor tests credited, so I figured I'd do as many on my own that I could before I signed up. After having gotten some tests under my belt (and purchasing all the TCN modules off ebay) I'm confident I can do the bookwork part. My concerns now are the attitudes of the local hospitals --why should they precept for free when ISU is getting paid, that will be a future hurdle. As to your question regarding Algebra, even my friends who signed up with TCN can never get a straight answer on that one..so I did what you did..called, you go to the website, fill out an application for admission to the regular university, pay $25 enrollment for paperwork, have your transcripts sent to them, request eval. That's what they told me to do, I'm waiting for all the transcripts to get there. Let you know how that goes.

Ok I'm done with Algebra - just back from the test. For all of those that want to test out of this one. I'll be honest, it was a lot. My recommendations to do this - first there are a load of "practice college algebra tests on the internet (each college has one that will come up to figure out your math class placement) take some of these and decide where you are at : pre algebra, Algebra, algebra II(some call it intermediate algebra). The test is about 90% or more Algebra I/II, I can only remember a couple that were college algebra level. I would use "educosoft" a self learning program that costs $15 a month to take you through all of it, it is the best at giving very detailed explainations . I would also buy a cheap Algebra II textbook off Amazon. There are great sites (math for morons, Paul's online math notes(my favorite), purplemath) for self teaching if you get stuck on something If you are slow at math-contact ISU I got an email back from the testing center, they said that they would accept the DSST College Algebra and this is an untimed test-you may want to research that option. The TCN guide is worthless for learning, most of the questions don't have detailed explainations of how they got the answer, but the 2 practice tests are very close to the real test. REA also has a book with 3 practice tests, but not good for learning. Petersons' $20 for 3 tests would be good. The big thing with this test is time, practice your time. I started this one from nothing, so it can be done. If anyone plans on taking this one, PM me I'll send you what I have.

Chaxanmom, Congrats on a great score !! Quick question- does anyone know if I need to take the optional essay with Analysis of Literature Clep? I think I need to take it with the Tech Writing and for Freshman Comp but I'm unsure with the Clep Lit., I've scheduled this test for mid Sept. BSN2b09- You'll like the Lifespan one, some on here took the DSST Human Growth and Development test ($100) cheaper than the Excelsior.

Hi everyone, I'm finally at the end of a struggle, college algebra, it has taken me 2 months to study for this one. The last class i had was regular math in high school 30 yrs ago so I had to teach myself all of it- pre, algebra I/II,college algebra. I'm testing at the end of this week. I'm going to be taking the sociology test also (that one seems like a piece of cake-studied 3 days !) On Monday I start an online class for Chemistry, two classes at the CC-english and communication. I'm going to start studying Anatomy next week on my own. bsn2b09-you were studying Stat? did you do that one? I'm wondering if I should do that one now since I have all this wonderful Algebra running round in my head. I'm really starting to feel I'm getting somewhere finally and I'm beginning to see the difference it's making. I'm constantly running across things I've learned doing these pre-req. What are the rest of you guys working on? what have you tested out of? I love to hear feedback !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:wink2:
