Indiana State University BSN students

Published

Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!

Thank you for such a straight forward answer. I cancelled my contract with TCN. I was feeling uneasy about once the rep left. I just needed to do some additional research. It feels like 100 years to me as well. I have been in a BSN program already but had to stop due to 2 back to back pregnancies. So once again I am on my way back to school. Good Luck to you!

I think if it weren't for distance education I would never get my BSN. It's just too hard to make sure childcare is all arranged and then have to pay for gas, etc. I love school but the juggle is so hard when there is no paycheck from it. I was soooooooooooo excited when I learned that there was a traditional LPN-BSN online program that had clinicals and everything. Thought I hit the jackpot! :yeah::yeah:LOL!

How was Gerontology? I'm taking it Wednesday. Haven't been able to study nearly as much as I would have liked. Yikes!

How did the test go?....I am taking mine next week....

I am a LPN with 1 yr experience. I live in NC. Thank everyone for all the information posted. :yeah:It has reenergized my ambition. I had completed most all of my prereqs for ADN at a brick and mortar when I had to move. (While waiting for LPN school opening I just kept taking classes.) I am very excited about ISU's program I am waiting for additional info now. Again thank all of you and Allnurses.com:bow:

To everyone who has posted on this thread, Thank You! I've decided to apply to ISU's LVN-BSN program and all of your posts have been very helpful. I am in the process of finalizing my portfolio for Spring 2009 and just found out from ISU that I need to test for N106 and N224 by Nov.1 application deadline, Yikes! I am looking for the CSMs for these exams and cannot find them on Ebay or Amazon. Is anyone interested in selling them or knows of anyone who is? TCN's price is so way out of my budget and the outlines on Blackboard are not available to me since I have not been admitted yet. Any help sent my way is greatly appreciated. :wink2:

Heads up to everyone who is applying for Fall 2009, per Kim C.'s email

" For the Fall 09 semester, all four (N106, N224, N328 and N330) will need to be completed before being admitted into the nursing program for the June 1 deadline."

I'm going to keep my peds and maternity study guides but if you email me I can email you back with the outlines for all four. Use email though, can't send attachments through PMs AFAIK.

Chaxanmom - thanks a mil, emailing you right now.

I have questions for those of you doing clinicals at your place of employment. I have done mine so far at the hospital I work at, I am in NUR324 right now so I have the 400's to finish, but the director at my hospital is not wanting myself and another girl to continue to do clinicals there. Her concern is a conflict of roles with nurse/employee and nurse/student and a violation of some sort of labor law. I am doing my clinicals on my own time but she is still against it. I have had the guy who arranges clinicals talk to her and I don't know if she doesn't understand what he is telling her or if he isn't being clear about how the clinical works? Has anyone else had difficulty at their place of employment? I have an excellent working relationship with my hospital but the manager is just leery of a violation of some sort of law and liability issues while I am a "student" vs. an "employee".

I would really like to finish my clinicals there because it is within 15 minutes of my house...the other sites are over an hour away and that will kill me with 180 hrs of clinical to do this spring....ugghh.

Hi,

Sorry it took so long for me to answer...no I am not going thru TCN. I get some of their study guides off of EBay but I test out on my own.

Hi,

How long do people think it will take to test out of the 4 CSM? It appears from a previous thread that you now have to have taken all 4 tests to apply to get into the nursing program starting for Fall 2009.

Yeah that's true. Sort of. I believe you have to take them before your first nursing class rather than before you apply but I could be wrong. I just got an email I think a day or two ago that said that. They're cracking down on people registering for classes, filling them up, and then finding out people aren't even eligible to take the classes. Apparently last semester a lot of upper level students got wait listed because people without the pre-reqs registered for those classes.

Hello Everyone!

Just finished reading this whole thread. It took me a couple of days and my brain is on major overload right now!!!

I'm planning on going to ISU. I'm meeting with a TCN rep tomorrow. I'm not signing up, I just want to get an outline of what I need and a better grasp of the program.

I took A & P and Micro in 1988, but I think they are too old so I may have to take them again or test out of them.

I'm going to start CLEPing out next month with Soc and Psych.

Are there any nurses here from San Diego going through this program? I would love to touch base with you.

Hi Brenda- In my opinion, testing out of the Nursing Challenge Exams is more of an individual thing- when your ready. For example, I found out that I needed to test out by Nov. 1 for both N106 and N224 in October. I am studying away and am taking both exams on Oct 31, but this is only because I am trying to meet the Spring 2009 deadline!

If your applying for Fall 2009, you can probably test out every couple of months, N106 in Dec, N224 Feb..... and meet the application requirements. PM me - I have a contact name and # that you can call or email if you feel more comfortable talking to someone at ISU. She is really helpful and can get you started in the right direction. :wink2:
