mc3...I completely understand how you're feeling, really. But I want to warn you, in advance, you're being set up, lulled into a false sense of security and apathy by the frequent flyers, impossible parents, and indifferent staff. Be on guard, its under these circumstances when you have to wade through all that chaff and recognize "that" kid who needs to be snatched from the jaws of death..."on guard!"
Yes, it's true. I've decided the school doesn't need me, they only need someone who can call home. Kinda like a robot. Nursing judgment, eh, what does that mean??? My school is filled with special snowflakes who need to go home immediately if experiencing any discomfort at all (real or perceived), including the "I don't feel like being here any more" flu". Never mind that there's absolutely no signs or symptoms of illness or injury. So, I have taken the liberty to create my own, new job description:Wanted
Nurse-like figure needed for school clinic. Must be able to call multiple phone numbers constantly during the day. Strong forefinger to hit buttons over and over again on phone desired. Must be able to handle the occasional angry, cursing parent who doesn't want to come get their "sick" child. The ability to detect BS is not required. Note: critical thinking skills and practicing nurse judgment is not required, and not welcome.
I'm having one of those weeks
Yes. So much yes.
It is not just the money. This is why I will leave my kids.
It is not them. Kids will be kids. They are doing what they are taught by their parents, and reinforced by teachers and Admin. Who don't know better about a sick kid in a school setting.
If I'm going to be second guessed, I'd rather it be by a doc.
i hear you. there are days i just feel like leaving the phone directory open, a jar of bandaids on my desk and a few ice packs in a cooler. I mean there IS more i do those days - but for the amount the kids actually hear the words that come out my mouth i feel like that's what the job gets reduced to.
