I can't understand what you're saying!

I have a big favor. I know that in texting writing "ur" or "2" for to is acceptable. But honestly, when you post like that, I don't understand what it is your trying to say. I usually just skip over the whole post, because it looks like gibberish to me. Please, this is a nursing forum, not facebook. Can we write in standardized English so we can ALL understand the content? Thank you.

I don't think you guys are a bunch of old fogies...I'm 21 and type out everything properly in my texts and abhor text speech because I can't understand it very well.

Or maybe I'm just a young fogie... ;)

while i agree about the textspeak, sometimes i have to wonder if we're a bunch of old fogies.:o

Perhaps we are. Proper use of the languuage may or may not prove that. I have learned some text speak and I am sure to learn more.

I figure I don't come here to learn text language. Of course some days I am not sure why I come here. I guess old fogie is a kind way of saying I have senior moments and use senior speak.

Don't tell my main sqeeze that I am an old fogie. He thinks I keep him young.:w00t:

It's not about being old foggy's or relaxing standards, it's about being able to read what a person writes. If I have to decipher the meaning as I read the words, I skip the post. Too much work.

And it's your, not you're by the way. Original poster was correct :)

Tanhaight,

It IS "you're" a contraction for you are

Ok, you old foggy!:lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:

i may be old:specs:, i may be getting foggy:confused:, and you may call me an old fogey:sleep:, but it's not "what your saying" unless it's "what my saying."

"i can't understand what you are saying" means you use your "you're."

You think so Leslie? That was why I wanted to add a little humor. I am 49 years old, but I try to roll with the current way things are and not fight the changing ways of society as new generations take over.

Also, this is a place to come and enjoy yourself and relax. It should not be work!

lol.

j/k

obviously you don't understand, purple.

we are supposed to write laugh out loud, not lol.;)

Fogey-me not

ftr, when i stated that maybe we're old fogies, i was half-kidding but admittedly, thinking aloud as well.

it's not as if i see so many of these type posts...

and if i do and i can't understand, i move on.

it does drive me crazy though, when people correct ea other publicly.

your, you're - whatever.

me thinks the op was trying to make a different point.:twocents:

and crunch, i'm with you.

maybe i shouldn't think aloud so often, agreed?:clown:

I tend to ignore posts with text-speak and those with major grammatical errors. I'm not talking about an occasional typo, informal speech, idioms, or vernacular/slang ... I mean posts full of "suppose" for "supposeD", "your/you're" and "there/their/they're" disasters, and those so full of incomprehensible run-on words that I can only conclude that the poster is typing away on a teeny personal electronic device keypad but, sadly, doesn't give a rat's behind about actually being understood.

There's a difference between commonly accepted computer shorthand (lol, irl, fwiw) and textspeak. Computer shorthand is an efficient way of communicating long words and phrases. OTOH, Textspeak in a forum that has no 140 character limitation is often just laziness or bad habit. Writing "u" instead of "you" doesn't save much space or effort for the aggravation it creates.

Yes, we still know what is meant, but reading, "C u l8tr" is just plain irritating. I find it especially amazing when textspeak is interspersed with much longer words. "I just wanted to let u know u r going 2 have 2 learn about appendectomy patients for tomorrow's clinical." Blecchhh.

Just spell it out, please!

You're.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.:specs:

If you hadn't, I would have.

"Your" changed to "you're" in thread title. Just had to do it. Whew! I feel better now.
