I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down

:redbeatheOkay MCC hopefuls, we are under the 45 day mark. Hopefully within 30 days we will at least have our ranking!!:redbeathe

42 days until letter day.....how are you feeling?

Shannon, I'm sorry to hear the bad news. Your day will come eventually and you will be able to enter nursing school somewhere. I would be upset too about the dropping of college credit courses. I took classes that would all go towards a degree and will be extremely disappointed if someone gets in that took all blow-off classes and I get passed up. I don't think that part of the program is fair and I am very happy that they changed the requirements for future applicants. If a program is supposed to be competitive then they should base rankings on the types of classes that people take. Anyone can get an A in a PE class, so that doesn't really seem to make a program competitive. Macomb's future nursing program applicants will be much better based on the more competitive format for admission starting in 2010. But don't count yourself out yet. You never know what may happen. The HESI test averages seemed to be way below the averages this year, so you may still have a chance. If you don't make it into Macomb, I'm sure there are plenty of nursing schools that would want a determined student, like you seem to be, in their program. Good luck to you!

152? Where did that 160 number come from? More importantly, why did everyone I spoke to at MCC say that there was going to be 160? If they were "rounding" they should have said 150. What a crock of ****.

We were told when we started the 1500's that they opted to leave two open spots in each start date so that if anyone fails or takes a voluntary stop out(for medical, personal/family issues), that they don't have to wait as long to get back in. They said that it was taking some people a year to get back in if they had to stop or repeat something. They will most likely explain it at orientation, but I just thought I'd let you all know what we were told...

Thanks, that makes sense. It's lame that the school would say "160" when it's not actually 160 at all. I guess it doesn't really matter, but can you imagine how upset #152 would be? Ouch.

Shannon, a strongly-worded e-mail about all this b.s. coming your way! :heartbeat

Yes...and actually 152 is in, it's 153 that's gonna be mad...probably as upset as #121 used to be! In all honesty it sounds like the plan to go with 152 occurred last minute because I think our instructors said they weren't told until last minute. Who knows, they are always changing something around there...

They probably did not know that they needed extra spots for repeats until they reached a certain point in the school year and had more than they expected.

They seem to make up the info up as they go along. There have been several people that talked to counselors that said 160, so it was not just one person putting what they thought on the board. I heard that they are going to get a counselor at the main campus that will be just for pre-nursing students since they give out so many versions of the same story, but then again, that is just what I heard. They really need to do something to get it straightened out.

That would probably be a very good move on their part to have one person in charge of giving pre-nursing information. When I met with a counselor before I applied in spring 2007 I was told not to even bother because with my current GPA I would not have a chance of getting in. They never mentioned the last 12 credit thing to me, I happened to find that out when I decided to ignore their advice and attend one of the selective admission seminar/meeting things. I took my pre-req's that summer and fall which gave me more than 12 credits and was lucky enough to get an A in all of them so my GPA was a 4.0. I got a 91 on the HESI, which I was a little bummed about, but it turned out to be ok because last spring I got my acceptance letter and I started this past January. In case anyone wanted to try and figure out where they stand because I know those averages can make it hard to know if you have a chance or not, my ranking was in the 70s out of 144 I think(they didn't add extra students until October's date this year). I wish I could remember the name of the counselor I met with because I would love to go shove my acceptance letter in her face for telling me not to even bother trying! I think you need to take the advice that they give for what it's worth and follow your gut feeling in the end. After all, they aren't the ones who call the shots. Sometimes I think you can get more accurate and up to date information from the people on here. Best of luck to you, I know how frustrating it is to feel like someone else has control of your future. That feeling of someone controlling you doesn't go away once you are in either. It's almost like you sign your life away for two years in return for an education that promises to get you a rewarding career. If you don't get in this year, keep trying. Some of the people in my class had tried 2 or 3 times to get in and I tell you they are some of the smartest, most determined people I know and they are going to make excellent nurses.

Hi everyone-

I know this is a little off topic but this thread seems to bring in the responses like mad! Thanks for keeping us all up to date! I want to apply for financial aid but since we will be so delayed finding out whether or not we are even in I have kind of figured I would just pay (if I get in:icon_roll) for the first year myself or try to get some later because I have 60 credits and got denied last year for any financial aid. I have never gotten any in the past (paid for everything myself) and thought I saw somewhere on here that there is a form you can fill out if you have more credit hours but going for a specific degree?? Anyone know anything about this? Where do I get this form and do I fill it out before I apply? Send in with my app? Did anyone have a hard time getting financial aid with Michigans stellar economy? Seems like all you hear are horror stories about trying to get any form of financing.... Maybe I will just call the Financial Aid office... Well I guess I can stop scaring my mail lady, however it is now a conditioned response....I hear the mail truck and I race to the mailbox....she must think I am nuts:yeah:

Oh and I have also heard that from now on your clinicals will be assigned for you, you can no longer pick/choose your instructors or try to stay with the same group of students...so yet another change for all of us prospective students to look forward too.

And I thought orientation was in June so hopefully we would know by then..right? Or am I just being optimistic? Takes 90 days for GPA and Hesi....hopefully ranking will be easier....or at least one would think. The GPA/Hesi letter was so frustrating...like um yeah HELLO I knew my GPA and Hesi score....so now I can obsess over previous years scores and how mine compare and fret until I get my 2nd letter............

This page has a form for a satisfactory appeal for financial aid. I am waiting for my acceptance letter so I can do this too. :)

I hope this is what you were asking, I just skimmed the posts.

That form you use is called something like "satisfactory progress form" it is on MCCs website, go to the financial aid page and you should see it. I found it a while ago but you cannot fill it out until you actualy GET DENIED financial aid (I already have a BA so I have WAYYY too many credits so I know I will have to fill one out). I think you just have to state what your goals are in school and when you plan to finish.

Also, I really hope that thing about not picking your clinicals is untrue. I will be working full time for as long as I can (because I am planning on getting denied aid and I already hav a ton of student loan debt), and I need to be able to have at least some control over my classes.

Its horrible that we are already scared about not being able to afford it and we aren't even accepted yet! I have been rethinking my whole decision to go back to school because I can't get a semester or two in and realize I cant pay my bills. I wanted to look into No Worker Left Behind because I make well under 40,000 a year, but I technically live with my parents even though they do not pay my bills so I am sure i'll get denied that also.

Ugh. Good luck to you ! I hope we find a way!

1) there is a thread about the clinicals on here, I think that they said you can possibly switch w/ other students if they are willing.

2) go check out the NWLB, I do not think they count your parents income. I was approved but did not take it because I wanted to be a nurse and they only pay for 2 years. So if your pre-reqs are done then go and try. When I was approved the 1st time my husband made more than that but I was unemployed so they let me, so your parents should not matter.

Thanks I will definetely try. My father sells cars so I don't think he even makes 40,000 a year right now anyway so it might be worth a shot. Do I just go to the nearest office and talk to someone? The closer nursing school gets the more worried I am about paying for it. I was always planning on working my way through but I am not sure how flexible my boss will be if I cant even control the times at least somewhat.
