42 days until letter day.....how are you feeling?

I think working retail would be do-able too. Especially if you really get yourself into a pattern. Consider how much time people have and they don't use. I know if I did everything I was supposed to, I would still have hours left in my day.

Good luck.

You're welcome and good luck to you, too! Another fyi to all -- ranking scores appear be a little higher or much closer this year as I dropped 20 places in my ranking from last year (in 2008, I ranked in the lows 80s; this year in the low 100s. For 2009, the college used my grades / HESI score from 2008).

And for the curious - my grade point was just shy of 3.86 / HESI 93 (rounded down - it would have helped if I had studied the medical vocabulary. Doh!). So a 4.0 isn't mandatory (but certainly can't hurt)! It all depends on the applicant pool.

And, yes, if it's the same as last year you can request a particular start date (doesn't mean that you will get it). If all goes well and according to plan, I'm shooting for January. :)

Hi Hummingbird,

I'm wondering about the how the start date worked last year. Was it based on your ranking at all?

Congrats for making it in again. I think your cousin will get in. I know the person that ranked #156 and I really believe she will get in too. OOps, sorry not your cousin.

Does anyone know how many alternates usually make it? I was accepted, but my cousin is #155 on the alternate list. I told her that i think her chances are really good. Congrats to everyone who made it and to those who didn't... don't give up on your dreams.

Hi Willismom,

I'm sorry I got you and hummingbird confused (see above post). I'd bet your cousin will get in. Congrats to you for getting in.

Hi Hummingbird,

I'm wondering about the how the start date worked last year. Was it based on your ranking at all?

Last year at orientation, the individual who handles admin work and sends correspondence, etc., for the department said they now ask if students have a preferred start date because if they slotted everyone strictly according to rank -- well, there were always students who called back and said they needed a different start date. So they ask. Say you ranked 17th and earned an August start, but perhaps you had a conflict and wanted to postpone your start until January. That they can do.

I think they go by rank unless there are special circumstances, etc. However, I suspect it's unlikely that a student who ranks #119 is going to be able to move up to an August start date. Also, if push came to shove, the students who have completed microbiology trump those who have not.

Someone indicated they ranked 152 this year. Does anyone know if that means there will be 38 per class - or are some of those folks on standby??

Dear Michymich,

I am unable to PM yet. Both books would probably be beneficial. Check e-bay for better deals. The book with the question-answer format, is the one I was referring to though. Many instructors use that style of questioning, even similar wording.

Momotwins38,

no problem! thank you so much for the info on which book! ;) That Q&A one was in the bookstore. Now that I know I can get one for some fun summer reading! LOL. I even found a 25% off coupon for Border's today. But will check amazon and e-bay. Thank you again ;)

Congrats those accepted.

The first semester at MCC is the hardest based on the amount of material you're assigned, the clinicals, and grading that is different from any other classes you've probably ever taken.

It gets better after that, though.

Hi there!! it was good to meet you and I am looking forward to having you as a fellow student nurse in August! By the way, my sister works at estate sales and says she sees stethoscopes all the time!! I told her to pick them up if they are cheap!! If she gets any I will let you know so we can try them out and see which ones will work for us. Hope the scrubs work for you. Nell
