Who Has Been Accepted to Macomb's Fall 2010 Nursing Program?
I want to say congratulations to you all. You have no idea what you are about to enter. You will learn so much about yourself and what you are capable of over the next few years. Don't always listen to what everyone says about the program. There are a lot of rumors about how hard it is, but seriously if you put the time in it really isn't that bad. I'm not saying it's easy, but don't let anyone scare you into thinking you are going to fail. If you wanted this bad enough to get into the program, you will be able to get through the program. It is definitely a ride, so hold on tight and enjoy it. I'm just finishing my first year and can sympathize with you and the feelings you are having. If you need any advice, please ask and I will be happy to share. You're program will be a little different than ours because they just changed the curriculum, but I'll try to help in any way possible. GOOD LUCK and ENJOY THE SUMMER!!! You will be stuck with reading and assignments very soon. Be prepared to spend the last few weeks of summer vacation reading. And be prepared for the phone book sized stack of papers you will soon be picking up. It will seem intimidating, and you may cry (I did), but don't worry....it's a great opportunity and you'll be just fine.

I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down
I'm seeing that a lot of you tied. Do they really only take 152 people or do they take everyone that has a ranking less than that? If almost everyone tied with someone else, and I'm assuming more than two people tied in some ranks, then there would be more than 152 people accepted this year.

I went to try to pay my deposit today and they wouldn't let me because I forgot my acceptance letter. Just wanted to remind you all to bring that letter with you when you go to pay the $100 so that you don't have to make an extra trip like I had to do. I'll be back on Monday to pay the money so I'll check on my ranking then too. I didn't even know that we could find that out. Thanks for the info!

Congrats everyone!!! I was sick today and sleeping when the mailman came. My son came home from school and brought the mail in. He said, "mom there's a letter from your school". I was so excited, it was the first time I was out of bed all day! I got in!!!! I can't wait to meet you all on the 20th.

Michy, I think that you have a great idea! Let us know if they fall for it.

I like your thinking pbid. A BBQ sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the update on the mail. I was planning on staying home until the mail came, but I think I'll venture out and enjoy the day. I'm getting sick of staring out the window waiting. Maybe tomorrow will be our lucky day!

Figures that Macomb would send a bill when we're waiting for our acceptance letters. They like to rub in how quickly they can figure out how much we owe, but they take their sweet time on letting us know the important stuff. My parents are going to Traverse City from Friday to Sunday. I told my mom they should cancel their trip because I'll either need someone to watch the kids this weekend while I go celebrate or while I'm crying in my room out of pity for myself. Dang parents had to ruin my weekend plans.

Me too. I'm tired of waiting. Hopefully we'll know by the weekend.

Anyone sign up for Micro at MCC for the 6 week summer session? Is this crazy??
You guys are crazy! I'm in Micro now and it is tough! It's so much harder than A&P, because it's like relearning everything over again in a different way. I've been stressed since January because of this class, which is almost over...FINALLY!!! I guess if you have to do it, it can be done. But expect to do nothing else but study for the 6 weeks, and don't take any other classes with it. I can say that the labs are really interesting and kind of fun. But for the lecture portion, it is really tough and the book that MCC uses is really boring. Probably the worst written textbook I've ever seen. If you have an old back up reference it will probably be very useful. Good luck to all of you.

Does anyone know if what ranking entails? Apparently they already figured out our GPA's and HESI's, and I'm sure a few people had their's fixed, so do they just add the fixes back into the spot? I hope it goes quicker than the last letter. I know they said they'd start ranking on the 20th, but any thoughts on how long that process takes. I keep thinking about Spongebob singing "I'm ready! I'm ready!" So am I!!!

I completely understand about the money. Even though we all complain about MCC, you can't pass up the education for the cost. I've never felt that I've gotten less of an education because I'm attending a community college, I've actually felt that I've gotten more out of it. My brother goes to Northern, and always tells me how much better he liked Macomb. Just the one-on-one instruction that you can get with the teachers makes Macomb worth it. Hopefully I was told the correct info about the financial aid, but if something happens and I don't get approved at least I won't have to remortgage my house in order to attend school :)

I got denied financial aid for this semester because I have too many credits. They told me to appeal the decision, so I did. You just go in to the financial aid office and fill out a form. I got denied, but when I talked to financial aid after I got my denial response they told me that it is listed in my file that when I get accepted into the nursing program they will allow me to have aid again. They said that the college wants us to finish what we start, especially when we're actually in a program and they do whatever they can to get us the financing. I already filled out the FAFSA because that needs to be completed, so I'd recommend filling that out no matter what. I think there's a deadline, so waiting to see if you're accepted could hurt any kind of aid that you may be able to get. I also heard about the clinicals. I think it's a bummer that we can't pick where or when we want our classes. They sure don't want to help us out in terms of jobs, kids, or where we live, do they? I guess we'll have to wait until the orientation to see what rumors are really true.

Shannon, I'm sorry to hear the bad news. Your day will come eventually and you will be able to enter nursing school somewhere. I would be upset too about the dropping of college credit courses. I took classes that would all go towards a degree and will be extremely disappointed if someone gets in that took all blow-off classes and I get passed up. I don't think that part of the program is fair and I am very happy that they changed the requirements for future applicants. If a program is supposed to be competitive then they should base rankings on the types of classes that people take. Anyone can get an A in a PE class, so that doesn't really seem to make a program competitive. Macomb's future nursing program applicants will be much better based on the more competitive format for admission starting in 2010. But don't count yourself out yet. You never know what may happen. The HESI test averages seemed to be way below the averages this year, so you may still have a chance. If you don't make it into Macomb, I'm sure there are plenty of nursing schools that would want a determined student, like you seem to be, in their program. Good luck to you!

My HESI was rounded down to the nearest whole number. It's probably easier to rank with a whole number, at least that's my idea. Shannon, I'm sorry that you're GPA was messed up. Did 18 credit hours equal a whole semester? They gave me a GPA for 20 credits because they needed to use two semesters for me. They use your 12 most recent credits, but if they need more than one semester to reach 12 credits then they use all the credits you had in the semesters combined. Maybe they used a different number than you've been trying to use. I don't know, just trying to help you out. Don't give up though, you never know. Maybe you'll get an alternate spot and someone will drop or fail and you'll be in.

I guess I just had to mention the mailman, because he just came and my letter was delivered! It's kind of funny how we finally get these letters that we've been waiting so long for on the day that the college is closed. I guess they want a few days off before they start hearing from upset applicants. Well, I'm happy now! :hpygrp:
