I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down

:redbeatheOkay MCC hopefuls, we are under the 45 day mark. Hopefully within 30 days we will at least have our ranking!!:redbeathe

42 days until letter day.....how are you feeling?

Hey Shannon... Good luck on getting it straightened out. Hopefully, it will just be something they missed and your GPA will be higher. Good thing they send out these letters ahead of time. I know it's going to be nerve wracking until Monday for you!

They also rounded my HESI score down to the nearest whole number. I was wondering too, if everyone who had a decimal point got the same thing... I'm sure it will be ok, and if there are any "ties" they will use the decimal!

I heard from someone in the program you can fail up to two times but you do not have priority over people who have taken I think she said a stop/out which if you for some reason have to stop the program ie medical reasons/pregnancy stuff like that

I'm pretty sure you can only fail once but I may be wrong. I was told you can't fail out of the 1500s. You have to make it past those, then you can fail. Not that you ever want to!

My HESI was rounded down to the nearest whole number. It's probably easier to rank with a whole number, at least that's my idea.

Shannon, I'm sorry that you're GPA was messed up. Did 18 credit hours equal a whole semester? They gave me a GPA for 20 credits because they needed to use two semesters for me. They use your 12 most recent credits, but if they need more than one semester to reach 12 credits then they use all the credits you had in the semesters combined. Maybe they used a different number than you've been trying to use. I don't know, just trying to help you out. Don't give up though, you never know. Maybe you'll get an alternate spot and someone will drop or fail and you'll be in.

Thanks everyone.

My 18 credits were from 2 semesters (summer 08 and fall 08), 9 credit hours each semester. If they took it to the 33 then that is 15 additional from Spring 08. I only actually attended 13 hours for Spring 08, the other 2 credit hours on my transcript for that semester is for a computer class that I took a waiver test and passed so I did not have to take the actual class. If they went back that far they may have looked at that as something else I guess.

You can't blame the school. If you planned on applying to MCC or any other school, it was your responsibility to check and see how your credits would transfer. Baker credits don't count as much as normal credits and that fact has never been hidden.

Bull! MCC is notorious for telling people one thing, and then going off to do something else. I know for a fact that Shannon talked to many different counselors at MCC and they all told her what they would be ranking her on. She DID check to see how it would transfer, and even checked with counselors at school, but then they ranked her on something else when she got the paper. The staff at MCC is responsible for giving her wrong information, and there is nothing she could have done about that.

Shannon, call them ASAP and keep calling until you can get this striaghtened out. Bring your unofficial transcripts with you, meet with someone in person, and Geoffrey Fieger it up!

My Hesi was rounded up from a 94.9 to a 95. My GPA luckily was right on except I had no idea they use 4 decimal points for that. Those averages on the letter seem so high, I am very scared now.

Hi everyone! I have never posted on here, but I have been watching for a while, and I, too, got my letter today. I'm riding the fence, big time, with those averages from last year. I am hoping that there were a few people that were a bit under those numbers, since they are averages. I remember them telling us the lowest scores during the selective admissions meeting, or were those averages? I thought they said lowest, but it has been a while. Anyone know anyone personally that got in last year? I wish you all the best of luck, we will get our chance soon, hopefully!

Why are you scared? Your hesi is better than all of the last 3 years that got in and I bet your GPA is right up there too. I did not receive my letter and am wondering if there is a number and name on your letter of who to contact if there is a problem. Good luck, I'm sure you will get in.

Thanks, I am going to try at both Baker and MCC just to leave my options open. I am going to talk to them on Monday because I just do not understand where they are getting this GPA from because it is not even close what Baker shows on my transcript.

Sorry to everyone that I was cranky earlier but it was a huge shock to see a GPA that is a lot lower than expected and does not match.

To the earlier post they rounded my HESI down.

Shannonmarie,

No apoolgy needed; its good to vent. Your safe here:) I hope it works out for you Mon. My HESI was also rounded down.

The letter says to call the enrollment office with any questions (586) 286-2212 or (586) 286 2139

Thanks for the info. I did get my letter. Things move a little slower up here in the northern part of the county. One more week and I will be checking my mailbox hourly.:wink2: Does anyone have any idea when the orientation usually is?

I talked to the enrollment office today about my low GPA and basically it sticks and I am out of the running. They went back to my 31 credits which is 3 semesters of classes (fall, summer, and spring), and they threw out 2 math classes and a computer class that the claim do not count, and unfortunately they were A's and that pulled it down.

I must say that I am very disappointed that they threw my classes out and that they even went as far back as they did. Like I said in my previous post I had went 2 separate times and talked with a counselor about my transfer credits and not once did they tell me that they would not count the classes I took. We sat down with my transcripts and they knew what they were.

It upsets me that I spent $55 on a HESI that was a waste of time and money because even if I decide to reapply at MCC in the future I have to retake it anyways. That was the whole point of the first counseling visit because I told them that if they were going back past 18 credits that there was no point in applying or taking the test because my GPA could not compete, and the assured me that I was fine and then took my money anyways.

I don't want to be whiny and keep saying this but it really does not make sense that the counselors told me to take art and PE as my last 12 credits (which people have admitted on here that they took easy classes just to get in) and that a college credit algebra class is not worth just as much as an art or PE class.

Well good luck everyone, hopefully I will still find a spot in Bakers program at some point.
