I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down

:redbeatheOkay MCC hopefuls, we are under the 45 day mark. Hopefully within 30 days we will at least have our ranking!!:redbeathe

42 days until letter day.....how are you feeling?

I got denied financial aid for this semester because I have too many credits. They told me to appeal the decision, so I did. You just go in to the financial aid office and fill out a form. I got denied, but when I talked to financial aid after I got my denial response they told me that it is listed in my file that when I get accepted into the nursing program they will allow me to have aid again. They said that the college wants us to finish what we start, especially when we're actually in a program and they do whatever they can to get us the financing. I already filled out the FAFSA because that needs to be completed, so I'd recommend filling that out no matter what. I think there's a deadline, so waiting to see if you're accepted could hurt any kind of aid that you may be able to get.

I also heard about the clinicals. I think it's a bummer that we can't pick where or when we want our classes. They sure don't want to help us out in terms of jobs, kids, or where we live, do they? I guess we'll have to wait until the orientation to see what rumors are really true.

Thanks for the info! But I figure if all else fails and I have to pay out of pocket Macomb is way cheaper than the 20 grand SC 4 would have cost me, seriously it's insane expensive!

I completely understand about the money. Even though we all complain about MCC, you can't pass up the education for the cost. I've never felt that I've gotten less of an education because I'm attending a community college, I've actually felt that I've gotten more out of it. My brother goes to Northern, and always tells me how much better he liked Macomb. Just the one-on-one instruction that you can get with the teachers makes Macomb worth it. Hopefully I was told the correct info about the financial aid, but if something happens and I don't get approved at least I won't have to remortgage my house in order to attend school :)

If you can not get financial aid through the schools you can look into private financial aid like Aspire. They have the same deal as the ones through school (maybe a higher intrest rate)but it is separate from the others. The require you to make payments starting 6 months after graduation like the school ones. Check out this website for scholarships and loans. http://www.fastweb.com/

For NWLB, I think you have to have graduated HS at least 2 years prior to trying to get into that program.

I'm supposedly 1/2 way through the NWLB system. Just need my approval letter from MCC (They will not pay for the Nursing program at MCC unless you are accepted, they DO not pay for pre-reqs for this program because they don't have a guantee that you will "get in"). There is wait list from what I heave heard to get the ball started in NWLB. The sooner you attempt to do something, the BETTER. So get to your nearest Michgan Works! place now.... Call them, walk in... whatever you have to do. Let them at least tell YOU, that YOU do or don't qualify.

They do not use your parents income either. I moved back home in an attempt to save money and go back to school. They didn't care about that, just YOUR income or laid off status.....

Shannonmarie... I haven't been on here for a few days, but I'm sorry that I didn't work out for you at MCC.... There is a person in my A&P class who had older credits from U of M or someplace.... and well, instead of a 4.0, they calculated it as a 2.0.... I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers girl and hoping that you are able to find a way to achieve your dream... I want everyone on here to succeed and make their goals... ;)

Hi everyone-

I know this is a little off topic but this thread seems to bring in the responses like mad! Thanks for keeping us all up to date! I want to apply for financial aid but since we will be so delayed finding out whether or not we are even in I have kind of figured I would just pay (if I get in:icon_roll) for the first year myself or try to get some later because I have 60 credits and got denied last year for any financial aid. I have never gotten any in the past (paid for everything myself) and thought I saw somewhere on here that there is a form you can fill out if you have more credit hours but going for a specific degree?? Anyone know anything about this? Where do I get this form and do I fill it out before I apply? Send in with my app? Did anyone have a hard time getting financial aid with Michigans stellar economy? Seems like all you hear are horror stories about trying to get any form of financing.... Maybe I will just call the Financial Aid office... Well I guess I can stop scaring my mail lady, however it is now a conditioned response....I hear the mail truck and I race to the mailbox....she must think I am nuts:yeah:

Oh and I have also heard that from now on your clinicals will be assigned for you, you can no longer pick/choose your instructors or try to stay with the same group of students...so yet another change for all of us prospective students to look forward too.

And I thought orientation was in June so hopefully we would know by then..right? Or am I just being optimistic? Takes 90 days for GPA and Hesi....hopefully ranking will be easier....or at least one would think. The GPA/Hesi letter was so frustrating...like um yeah HELLO I knew my GPA and Hesi score....so now I can obsess over previous years scores and how mine compare and fret until I get my 2nd letter............

Last year the orientation was wednesday may 14th. I didn't get my acceptance letter until 2 weeks prior. If you heard June, maybe they changed it.

I recieved my admission acceptance letter to another program that I chose as a back up. I need to submit 100.00 dollars by Friday, April 24, or I will be dropped from that program. Does anyone understand how this works. The RN progam is my first choice. The 100.00 dollars is non-refundable. How can they do that? I see the value in confirming your spot but this feels a little premature and a bit like bullying. Any thoughts I might be thinking to narrow??

They do that. I am assuming since it is not refundable they will not move it from one program to another, so I would call them and see when they are getting the RN letters out. Today was the deadline for changes so hopefully you will get it by Friday so you can make a decision. Congrats either way though!!

PBID

I just had the same scenario happen. I got accepted to the other programs I applied for. I called my favorite enrollment person (she rocks!) and told her that how can I do that? They want the money by April 24th, but I want in the RN program first.

She told me that 1) We should have our acceptance letters to the Nursing program before April 24th, as they are ranking on the 20th, (so they say.......)and 2) you can give the $100.00 for the program you have been accepted to. Once you find out if you got into the Nursing program, they will transfer that money to the Nursing Program. She forwarded me to the cashier who indeed confirmed that they will transfer the $100.00. They seem to understand.

How excited is it that we will know next week! I'm totally geeked. PBID warmest congratulations! I just feel realived that I have opened options. Now for the Nursing Acceptance Letter!!!!!!!:yeah:

Michymich,

You Rock!! Thanks for the info.!!!! I'm glad we may find out this week. Congratulations to you also. I was accepted into RT, ST and PT what about you? This site has a great blog about RT vs. RN. I found it was really interesting.

Woo hoo for both of you!! I am surprised that they will move the money for you, but thank goodness they will. It must be very comforting to know that you have a spot waiting for you somewhere, if not RN what is your second choice?

PBid, I was accept to the same programs as you! Plus I am waiting to hear about the RN also. But I figure that I am going to go for the ST, give them the 100.00 and then if God willing I get into the RN, I will transfer that over. Thanks MichyMich for the info.

Congratulations on getting accepted to the programs.
