I'm 23. I live in Michigan. I will be attending MCC's Nursing School starting this fall. I would like to specialize in pediatric oncology.

I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down

That would probably be a very good move on their part to have one person in charge of giving pre-nursing information. When I met with a counselor before I applied in spring 2007 I was told not to even bother because with my current GPA I would not have a chance of getting in. They never mentioned the last 12 credit thing to me, I happened to find that out when I decided to ignore their advice and attend one of the selective admission seminar/meeting things. I took my pre-req's that summer and fall which gave me more than 12 credits and was lucky enough to get an A in all of them so my GPA was a 4.0. I got a 91 on the HESI, which I was a little bummed about, but it turned out to be ok because last spring I got my acceptance letter and I started this past January. In case anyone wanted to try and figure out where they stand because I know those averages can make it hard to know if you have a chance or not, my ranking was in the 70s out of 144 I think(they didn't add extra students until October's date this year). I wish I could remember the name of the counselor I met with because I would love to go shove my acceptance letter in her face for telling me not to even bother trying! I think you need to take the advice that they give for what it's worth and follow your gut feeling in the end. After all, they aren't the ones who call the shots. Sometimes I think you can get more accurate and up to date information from the people on here. Best of luck to you, I know how frustrating it is to feel like someone else has control of your future. That feeling of someone controlling you doesn't go away once you are in either. It's almost like you sign your life away for two years in return for an education that promises to get you a rewarding career. If you don't get in this year, keep trying. Some of the people in my class had tried 2 or 3 times to get in and I tell you they are some of the smartest, most determined people I know and they are going to make excellent nurses.

Yes...and actually 152 is in, it's 153 that's gonna be mad...probably as upset as #121 used to be! In all honesty it sounds like the plan to go with 152 occurred last minute because I think our instructors said they weren't told until last minute. Who knows, they are always changing something around there...

I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down

We were told when we started the 1500's that they opted to leave two open spots in each start date so that if anyone fails or takes a voluntary stop out(for medical, personal/family issues), that they don't have to wait as long to get back in. They said that it was taking some people a year to get back in if they had to stop or repeat something. They will most likely explain it at orientation, but I just thought I'd let you all know what we were told...

    Microbiology at MCC

i just started the nursing program in january and took micro this past fall. i opted out of starting earlier because i knew it would be a lot to start the program, take micro and work(i don't have a choice i have to work). if you don't have to work, then it can be done, but if you do have to, i think it can be a bit tricky to try and manage everything...but that's just me. i just decided that it wasn't worth trying to juggle everything for a chance to graduate just a bit sooner, after all if you were to get lower then a c in any of your classes that semester, you would have to wait to retake something and that means not progressing in the program until you do, which blows the whole graduating a bit earlier theory out of the water. it's a personal choice and it's one that i debated, too. i decided to take the advice from other students and the instructors in the nursing program at orientation and take micro separate. i was actually surprised how tough micro was. i was warned about a&p but nobody warned me about micro! i managed to do very well, but was just surprised, so be prepared. whatever you decide, best of luck!

    Which nursing program to pick

It's english...either 1180 or the other class that is compairable. I just started Macomb's program this week. Everyone seems nice and the staff seems helpful, but it is a lot of work! Much more reading then I have ever done before(I should be reading right now actually instead of being on here!). Whatever program you choose to pursue just be ready to focus and work hard, very hard. Best of luck!

:) I got my start date for MCC...

When I took it back in 2002 it wasn't that bad. No cat dissection, but I do remember a rat. This could have changed in the last 7 years though!:chuckle

:) I got my start date for MCC...

I'm a January start and mine came, just as a single regular letter though, not in a big envelope with the other info. Hope that helps!

    MCC letter came today

Thanks! I think I will use your advice on seeing Mr Markem after orientation and I have a start date established to help me figure out how to work my school and work schedules so that I can be as successful as possible. I would love to not have to work, but I think like most people these days, that is just not an option. I do have the convience of working right across the street at the Beaumont building on Hall rd, so that is a plus! It will just be a matter of figuring out hours and class schedules and such.

    MCC letter came today

I heard there were many more then 750, that is all they bothered to rank though(I guess it makes sense, because if you are beyond that point it really wouldn't matter, or it could be that the others didn't have complete files!) I also thought it was strange that the info wasn't entered for the top 120...I guess maybe it is in one system they use for ranking and maybe not in our full macomb file at this point and they have to be combined or something...who knows! By the way congratulations on being 6th! That is awesome! :clphnds:I'm pretty sure I'm closer to 120...but I don't care, I could be 120 and that's fine cause it's still in! :hpygrp: I would be curious to hear the stats they give the new applicants this year at the seminars...I was so scared when I left last year and am still so surprised that I actually did it! When I met with a counsler this time last year after not attending school since 2003 I was told that with my current grades(which were not good because I had a BAD freshman year) I didn't stand a chance and to not even bother(she failed to mention the last 12 credit loop hole). Obviously I didn't listen to her, because two perfect semesters and a 91 on the HESI later here I am in the top 120! I wish I could remember her name because I'd love to go shove it in her face for being so negative:yeahthat:(isn't there job to guide and help? I mean yeah don't, give false hope, but you should never discourage trying...what ever happened to an A for effort? I mean I put the effort in and got an A, heck I got 4 and am working on a 5th, and not in super easy classes either!) Sorry I had to vent a bit!:grn: Congrats to everyone who will be joining me on this journey:chrs:, and good luck to all of you who aren't for next year:wink2:. Don't give up, because it can be done! Sorry, I got alittle carried away with smileys...it's been a looooong day!

    Looking for an apartment....PLEASE HELP!!

http://www.apartments.com/summary.aspx?property=106109.10&srank=3&state=mi&rgn1=2&helicon=0&area1=y&subarea13=y&rent_minimum=0&rent_maximum=99999&page=summary&prvpg=7&srt1=0.44&srt2=0.44&srt3=0.44 A friend of mine lived here and it wasn't bad. You can have a dog too(don't know if that is of importence or not). Depending on what you are looking to spend there are lots of houses for rent in the Macomb/Oakland county areas as well that are pretty close to rent for some apartments. If you are looking to save a little money, I'd lean towards southern Macomb county and if you don't mind spending a bit more look at Northern Macomb and Oakland, they are a little nicer and the price reflects it. Depending on your shift, if you'll be traveling during rush hour via I-94, 696 or I-75 I'd tack an extra 30 minutes to your commute just to be safe because of traffic(especially with construction that seems to be never ending!). Good luck! The DMC is nice(even though I work for Beaumont), my dad was treated there(at Karmanos) and we liked it.

    MCC letter came today

Congrats! I went today to pay my $100 and accept my acceptance and stopped by enrollment to see if they would tell me my ranking but they didn't have that info input yet and the lady with it was not there so they told me to stop back later this week. I was just curious!

    MCC letter came today

Congratulations to all of you who got in:yeah:. I will see you at orientation and perhaps get to know some of you in classes in the future:nuke:. Quick question for those of you who have already started/completed the program. I still need to take micro and was considering to request to start in Jan. Is it too hard of a class to take and start in October? I want to do well. Just curious. Thanks!
