I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down
That would probably be a very good move on their part to have one person in charge of giving pre-nursing information. When I met with a counselor before I applied in spring 2007 I was told not to even bother because with my current GPA I would not have a chance of getting in. They never mentioned the last 12 credit thing to me, I happened to find that out when I decided to ignore their advice and attend one of the selective admission seminar/meeting things. I took my pre-req's that summer and fall which gave me more than 12 credits and was lucky enough to get an A in all of them so my GPA was a 4.0. I got a 91 on the HESI, which I was a little bummed about, but it turned out to be ok because last spring I got my acceptance letter and I started this past January. In case anyone wanted to try and figure out where they stand because I know those averages can make it hard to know if you have a chance or not, my ranking was in the 70s out of 144 I think(they didn't add extra students until October's date this year). I wish I could remember the name of the counselor I met with because I would love to go shove my acceptance letter in her face for telling me not to even bother trying! I think you need to take the advice that they give for what it's worth and follow your gut feeling in the end. After all, they aren't the ones who call the shots. Sometimes I think you can get more accurate and up to date information from the people on here. Best of luck to you, I know how frustrating it is to feel like someone else has control of your future. That feeling of someone controlling you doesn't go away once you are in either. It's almost like you sign your life away for two years in return for an education that promises to get you a rewarding career. If you don't get in this year, keep trying. Some of the people in my class had tried 2 or 3 times to get in and I tell you they are some of the smartest, most determined people I know and they are going to make excellent nurses.

Yes...and actually 152 is in, it's 153 that's gonna be mad...probably as upset as #121 used to be! In all honesty it sounds like the plan to go with 152 occurred last minute because I think our instructors said they weren't told until last minute. Who knows, they are always changing something around there...

I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down
We were told when we started the 1500's that they opted to leave two open spots in each start date so that if anyone fails or takes a voluntary stop out(for medical, personal/family issues), that they don't have to wait as long to get back in. They said that it was taking some people a year to get back in if they had to stop or repeat something. They will most likely explain it at orientation, but I just thought I'd let you all know what we were told...

Microbiology at MCC
i just started the nursing program in january and took micro this past fall. i opted out of starting earlier because i knew it would be a lot to start the program, take micro and work(i don't have a choice i have to work). if you don't have to work, then it can be done, but if you do have to, i think it can be a bit tricky to try and manage everything...but that's just me. i just decided that it wasn't worth trying to juggle everything for a chance to graduate just a bit sooner, after all if you were to get lower then a c in any of your classes that semester, you would have to wait to retake something and that means not progressing in the program until you do, which blows the whole graduating a bit earlier theory out of the water. it's a personal choice and it's one that i debated, too. i decided to take the advice from other students and the instructors in the nursing program at orientation and take micro separate. i was actually surprised how tough micro was. i was warned about a&p but nobody warned me about micro! i managed to do very well, but was just surprised, so be prepared. whatever you decide, best of luck!

Which nursing program to pick
It's english...either 1180 or the other class that is compairable. I just started Macomb's program this week. Everyone seems nice and the staff seems helpful, but it is a lot of work! Much more reading then I have ever done before(I should be reading right now actually instead of being on here!). Whatever program you choose to pursue just be ready to focus and work hard, very hard. Best of luck!

Stethoscope question for MCC Students
I am starting the program at MCC in about a week and I still need to get a stethoscope(among other things). I am debating between the Littmann Cardiology III and the Classic II S.E. I know I can probably get away with the cheaper one, but I eventually want to specialize in pediatric oncology and the Cardiology can be used on pediatric and adult patients and seems to be a better quality item. Any advice on what I should purchase and possibly where would be much appreciated(as well as any advice on other essential items is welcome too)!

Question for current MCC nursing students
I am starting the nursing program at MCC in January and think I may want to get a PDA like they were talking about at orientation. With Christmas right around the corner, I thought it may be a good gift idea so I wanted to start price shopping and such, but I don't know what exactly I should be looking for as far as brand, model, storage/memory space, etc... Anyone advice from any current stidents who have one or use one would be greatly appreciated!

Winter 2009 Nursing Registration @MCC
I start in January. I saw what you were saying about the classes and clinical schedules. There is a certain day I want to try and get because it will better coordinate with my other schedules, but I guess I get what I can get. Looks like I will be staying up late Christmas day instead of Chritmas eve this year...or maybe both, which will make work on Friday really fun! I guess I should start adjusting to the whole no sleep thing though, because I have feeling there are going to be a lot of late night study sessions in the future!:nuke:

Winter 2009 Nursing Registration @MCC
I recieved my letter the other day that let us know that registration for the nursing program for winter 09 won't begin until December 26. Being a new nursing student, I was wondering if any former/current students had any tips on registration like, what time registration starts that day and if it's crowded like when you try to register for regular classes (you know, when it won't let you log in and the system crashes and it is very, very frustrating!). I have to work that day so I need to make sure that I can get it done as soon as possible and make it to work on time and there are certain days that I want to try and get for my clinicals. Also I was wondering if anyone had any information on the TBA 4 hr lab that comes in addition to the the 1630 clinical. Is it the same day as your clinical or a different day, when do they let you know for sure, etc... I appreciate any assistance anyone can offer!

:) I got my start date for MCC...
When I took it back in 2002 it wasn't that bad. No cat dissection, but I do remember a rat. This could have changed in the last 7 years though!:chuckle

- :) I got my start date for MCC...
I'm a January start and mine came, just as a single regular letter though, not in a big envelope with the other info. Hope that helps!- How does MCC Nursing program class scheduling work?
Hey NBMom1225 I just noticed that you want to be a peds oncology nurse...me too! Good luck!- How does MCC Nursing program class scheduling work?
Thanks both of you. That does help. Hopefully all goes well:wink2:...we shall see!- How does MCC Nursing program class scheduling work?
Can anyone who is the program now, or has finished it give me an idea on how the schedule works with classes, i.e; Mon and Wed 8-12 or Tues 9-3, etc. I'm trying to figure out how to change my work schedule around so that it will accommodate class, but I also need to fit in some work time so that I'm not completely broke! Any incite would be very much appreciated as I am a little stressed right now being in unfamiliar territory! Thanks! - :) I got my start date for MCC...
