I finally walked out the door

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi all.........most of you know about all the problems I've had at the hospital I have worked at for the past 4 years. Well, yesterday (friday) was my last day and I feel like a new nurse!!

It was alittle hard.......I have left some great nurses and even greater friends, but I do have all of their phone numbers.

I just couldn't take it anymore.........the back-biting, the paper overload, the ever changing and worsening patient loads and the constant call-offs with no replacements.

I start my new job next week and I'm going to enjoy a couple of days off. I also get to reunite with my youngest who was stationed in Gulf Port and was caught in this horrific storm. He is ok and on his way home....Thank God.

Thanks to all of you who have encouraged me and cheered me up during some of the really 'hard' times.......you all are great. I really hated leaving, but my health is taking a toll and I was getting to the point of not caring.......I'm looking forward to the change. I also have a P/T job close to the house, so the extra money will surly help with buying gas :chuckle

Glad to hear that you are gone and starting fresh somewhere new! You seem much happier and you have not even started. Way to go, and much success will come your way. :)

Congrats, I would like to see more nurses walk out instead of putting up with crap or complaining full time.

I agree. Its good to see nurses not putting up with crap. Unfortunately where I am from management doesn't care they just get more nurses from the PI. In fact nurses were told take pay cut or loose job because they'll get nurses from PI.

Bless your heart;you made a bold move. Wishing you nothing but the best.

I do belive that it is illegal for the hospital to do that. I would consult with an attorney, and I would definately call the papers, write a letter to the editor, call the TV Station,s and I believe that Lou Dobbs from CNN woud love to heat that nurses are being threatened with a pay cut and repalced with foreign nurses. Make some noise, and alot of it. Make an announcement in church, anything to draw attention to the situation, and make the hospital look bad. Push the publics buttons!

Congratulations and I wish you all the best!

Good for you! Sometimes removing yourself from an environment like that makes a lot of difference.

Actually it is my son........my 'baby' :) (he really hates when I say that but I'm the mom, right?? )

Anyway, You all are the best. I know if I need a cyber hug or pat on the back, all I have to do is come here

I requested to go PRN and I was told at first that they couldn't do that. I explained my situation with my son (not knowing if he was alive for more than a day is hard to deal with). I got a call today (sunday) that they do want me to stay on PRN and actually I am glad. I can go back in on my own terms. I was also asked if I would volunteer to help with triage of the refugees from the storms down south. I said YES!! Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to help those people. They are bringing several busses here and they will be staying at a old jail facility that has been vacant for 4 years. They have been working around the clock to fix it up for all the families.

Again, thanks for your encouragement and kindness!!!
