Recent nurse graduate here...but my question today is being presented on behalf of the students in the cohort behind me who have been backed into a corner and are now “afraid” to speak up and are afraid to take action.
Last week, two professors posted a class recorded lecture onto the classroom portal, D2L, not realizing the recording included a “private conversation” between the two of them after the entire class had logged off.
This recording was viewed by many of the students and included details pointing out and making mockery of students with “accents”, remarks toward how they (the two professors) prefer to have a say in the number of minorities allowed into the program, “hoping” that some of these students fail, included names of students (who actually watched the recording themselves and heard their names being said), and the list goes on.
None of the students recorded the recording and only have information of what they recall/wrote down from this recording.
Shortly after, the two instructors sent out a mass email stating that details of the conversation needs to remain private and respected.
As professional nurses, is this something you feel these students need to remain quiet about? Or should they band together and go to the Dean (who is new) about it and call for yet another investigation?
Note: One of the instructors has already been sued in the past by a student based on similar allegations.
Wondering what your thoughts are?

A civil suit is warranted no matter what course of action the school chooses to take. JMHO not to be taken as legal advice.
I'm sure mainstream media would have a field day with that. I totally agree with your post. A lawsuit would really have a negative impact on that school.

It kind of makes you wonder if it was really a mistake or some sicko need on her part to be seen in her undies by you and other kids.
These damned teachers are awful. They show stupidity and terrible judgment in sending out an email telling students to not say anything.
Not to mention their bad attitude about certain people they don't like and want to keep out of their lives.
They are horrible role models.
Oh, they're entitled to their views.
And there are many so-called minorities who also have terrible views toward persons not of their race, religion, gender, political view, heritage, etc.
But to bully students into silence is not acceptable.
If the students don't speak up, they are just as bad.

The profane things I want to say about these knuckleheaded so called professors would get me banned from this site. I wish someone recorded it. It needs to go public pronto and chickens need to come home to roost fast and swiftly. I am absolutely nauseated.
This shouldn't even be up for debate. The dean needs to know about it because the professors have made it clear that they have a problem with minority students. I'm sorry, that is racist and there is nothing else that it can be called.
They are trying to do damage control and students need to present it as a group to the dean.
PLEASE do this for your classmates and the integrity of the program. If you are white (as I am) and you don't stand up to protect your minority classmates that is no different than supporting the behavior.
Well I would like to know if this happened at the U of M in Minnesota and if this is the SAME person who uploaded the links on Twitter with links to the video that were later taken down, trying to get it trending???
If so, you should be so embarrassed of yourselves! I’m a nursing student at a different school in the state and saw that post that another student sent me, unfortunately for you you did not get it trending like you hoped. In fact, other people who were able to find the links via You Tube also commented that the comments by the instructors were not that bad as you are claiming them to be. Instructors made comments about the sincere lack of thoughtful discussion posts, students clearly not reading the material before coming to class and yet posting a discussion to get the points, students basically not being responsible adults like you are expected to be! This is NOT high school! I’m in my 30s and have classmates who are right out of high school or in their 20s and have a sincere lack of responsibility and maturity. Those of us who are taking this opportunity seriously (since it’s very competitive to get into nursing school) are pretty sick of people like you and your classmates who are not getting their work done, want extensions, have countless excuses and when it comes to group work we also suffer because you don’t have your *** together. THEN you guys go and complain, do crap like this, to try play victim. It’s seriously disgusting. Be an adult. And do YOU complain about the instructors??? Which is ALSO against nursing student conduct! Don’t be a hypocrite! You kids have not been in the real world, you will have to work with people who are not nice to you, who hurt your feelings or basically tell you the straight truth about you and your lack of work ethic and say “they’re so mean” ?. Be an adult. Take responsibility.
like I said in the beginning, if this is the same person (or friends of the same person) who tried to get the same thing trending on Twitter, the comments made by the instructors were maybe tacky but nowhere near the “horrifying” comments you are making them out to be, you are a generation where you grew-up with social media and you think that getting as many comments and “likes” is important and is life-defining. The rest of us who didn’t grow up with this crap I guess are the ones who have a work ethic and integrity.
And keep in mind, just because you or anyone thinks that they can just go ahead and sue a person or a group of people for “wrong doings”, a lawyer will not just take any case on. A lawyer will only take on a case they know has merit and is worth their time.
Shame.

Apparently, there's no video or audio recording in the OP's scenario. A video that doesn't exist can't be uploaded anywhere, and the topics discussed were completely different, as well.
Well, since you would “first like to know if this happened at the U of M in Minnesota and if this is the SAME person who uploaded the links on Twitter with links to the video....”
the answer to your question, is NO!
Did you not read my post? There is NO recording of the recording.
I know nothing more about the situation (this situation I am presenting here, not at the UoM, which is news to me...because oh, I don’t have facebook, tiktok, or Twitter, etc...speaking of social media?) besides hearsay, which is why my involvement is ZERO.
I can literally feel your blood boiling from over here ?

Most universities and colleges would take that allegation seriously if it were to be brought up to the appropriate channel. This is also not that unique...we've heard of similar incidents before. There are many ways to report it short of escalating it to the level of university or college president who typically has a committee in charge of diversity and inclusion.
I would report it if I were one of the students who witnessed it. Whatever was said in that classroom session is not privileged communication and students have no obligation to keep it confidential, in fact, that professor already incriminated himself/herself by sending the email.
